I am sure you are now wondering why, well let me explain it to you. This Oxfam has been laid out and designed to be modern and funky to entice people of, perhaps, a younger generation in. It is so close to Anglia Ruskin University that it draws in all sorts of students too. This Oxfam doesn't just sell second hand clothes and accessories, oh no it sells artistic work, old vinyl records and some very oddball items. This Oxfam has been created to appeal to creative people, nostalgic people and modern people. It has such a fresh approach that it completely breaks the boundary of the mundane existence of most charity shops. The only downfall with this Oxfam shop is that, through it's modern vibe, it seems to feel it has the right to be more expensive. I, and hopefully you, can forgive this as it encompasses so many levels of cool! You can't miss it, it is the first store you will see on Mill Road and it is at least worth a look see.

Now I know what your thinking.Hmmm this person is just a bitter ex-employee. But this is not the case at all. I have never worked for them. However a friend of mine did. She was in the unfortunate position of needing time to take care of her child. When she asked for a couple of days she was told that she could not. And if she did she would be given a warning. Now I can understand if she had done this on other occaisions and was pushing her luck, but this was the first time. In the end she had to leave because there was no other person to look after her child for the couple of days she needed and the BHF did not care enough as an employer. Shame on them.

The British Heart foundation charity store makes sure it's clothes and other goods are of an acceptable quality and it's an especially good place to go for coats, accessories and shoes, with the added bonus of helping a worthy cause. The staff are on hand to help you out with any requests and the store is well laid out and organised, considering the massive amount of donations that has to be sorted through daily and presented to the customers. Worth a look for fancy dress outfits too!

Well I did not go to this charity shop to buy clothes even though I ended up doing just that. I went there to stock up my library. They had a buy one-get one free book sales for just 99p, wow what a bargain. They were truly good books and you could return the books when you finished reading them as a way of helping out. However, in the process of selecting some of the books, my eyes caught something stereotypically unusual in the shop and that was a designer bag for just £4, I couldn't help but add it to my shopping. By the time I finished, I had spent more than I planned. The staff was very helpful and I have since gone back to buy crafts that adorn my room, they are so beautiful that I sometimes exaggerate the price whenever my friends ask. Going to charity shops is also a good way of contributing to charity apart from the normal donations.

They now stock the range of ecover products and have a variety of fair-trade foodstuffs and other items. The shop has a really nice vibe and a very positive attitude to making a difference in the world. The clothing selection is not as good as some of the other charity stores, but it more than makes up for it in ethnic ornaments and other bits and pieces. I particularly like their range of journals and diaries, from many different countries and with amazing photos and images. This shop is very effective displaying their passion for their cause.

There has been a fight on lately to keep this integral part of the community open, as there is said…read moreto be no need for it. But Newmarket Hospital is very important to the community. Although there is no longer an accident and emergancy available at the hospital, it is a very busy hospital. Personally, I have used it for pregnancy scans and other x-rays, blood tests, midwife appointments, and out of hours gp visits. Without these, I would have had to travel 25 minutes to the nearest larger hospital, and having the emergancy doctor close by is so important, as without it I would have been wasting valuable time of the paramedics had I needed to call an ambulance. The hospital also takes care of a lot of the elderly members of the community, and the younger, by having a bay clinic twice a week. It would be a real shame and loss to the community if the hospital were to close down.

This small charity shop is a treasure trove for those looking for clothes to customise cheaply or a…read morenew book to read on holiday, there are special £1 rails of clothes and often books placed in the box outside the store are discounted. There is a changing room which is useful for trying on clothing before buying and all clothes are organised out into different colour sections so if you are looking for particular shades you can go to a particular rail for it. They have a good mix of items for young and old and very friendly volunteers staffing the store.
