May 30, 2026 Folk…read moreArt Abounds at Stitchin' Heaven. I blame my Wife for this encounter. She is the cause of all this awestruckness visited upon me that fateful final May Saturday. It was a three and a half hour drive for us to get there from our house near The Woodlands. The Greater Piney Woods of East Central Texas between Huntsville and Tyler were a sight to behold and to this day, make me happy to be a Native Texan. Small towns, like Quitman, hide gems within their city limits. Stitchin' Heaven is one such place. Hitting the parking lot, you realize tuis is much more than a quilt shop. It is a quilters destination, a cloth clubhouse for anyone wanting to stitch up folk art. They have classes and retreats for those that desire to learn this ancient art of making bed coverings. We spent about an hour inside ... the Wife browsing, I, just gawking at the displays of true hand made beauty. Fantasy Quilts, Traditional ones, special themed ones all were draped along the walls to stare at and wonder. Wonder how someone could dedicate so much time and effort to achieve this work of love and art. I came out of there with a new appreciation of what thread, needles and a good set of shears can do to a bolt of cloth. If you are ever up there, stop by and just see the hanging quilts. However, after spending over an hour in the car to try to get here from my aunt's house in Greenville, I was rudely yelled at by the owner when entering the store. "We close in 6 minutes!!!" This was the beginning of the end for me... I live in Houston so I only get to come here when I'm in town visiting family or if I make a special trip to come stock up on fabric. I happened to be in town the weekend of Easter and tried to come here on the Friday before Easter, only to find a handwritten sign on the door that they were closed (for Good Friday) and would be open again the next day. That was a bummer, but I asked my husband if we could try to come back on Saturday as I bought fabric from here previously and I needed more of it. My family in the area lives in Greenville, so it was quite a drive to get here from their house. I saw here on Yelp that they close at 4:30pm, so we rushed and I ended up walking in 6 minutes to 4pm. How do I know this? Because as soon as I walked in, the owner screamed "we close in 6 minutes!!!" at me. I responded, "online says 4:30pm and I'm from out of town". She rudely replied "well online is wrong - we've tried to fix it but it's wrong". I rushed to grab my fabric and with 2 minutes left to 4pm, she yelled from the front "are you ready to check out?!" They had already rushed everyone else (all 2 other people) out the door and I was the only one left. Listen, I get that it was a Saturday and you're trying to go home....but you weren't open the day before due to a holiday and you now have a customer in front of you who's ready to spend money and also told you that she's in from out of town... To be treated so rudely, by the OWNER, nonetheless, is absolutely unacceptable. Next time I'm in town, I'm sticking to spending my money at the other 3 fabric warehouses next door as I will NOT be coming back to this place.

Great prices... clean store... bad customer service…read more Today WOULD have been my third visit, except I was RUSHED out the door and told they were closed.. 10 minutes before they actually closed. Then the rude lady who pushed me out the door felt the need to correct me and say it was 5 minutes until closing, and that they didn't have any customers so they were closing early.. It wouldn't be a big deal but I sat in over an hour of traffic to get there and really needed 20 yards of fabric to finish a project that is to install tomorrow. Awful customer service from this particular lady.

It's a smallish space, but well-curated. Some items were not priced; I asked one staff member the price; then another wanted to charge me nearly twice the amount at the register... This kind of dissimulation, intentional or not, is distasteful. Each item should be priced so this doesn't happen. It also saves staff being asked questions.

I plan on coming back and taking a quilting class soon since everyone was so welcoming and nice. Large selection all priced at 12.99/yard there was a small selection on clearance for 8.99. One other interesting is that they have a laser printer there and make little plastic patterns that could be re-used for years, along with other custom projects. Definitely a neat place to drop by and hangout/kill time if you're into sewing/quilting!
