I was visiting this store and the other ones in Juneau and Ketchikan. Around all stores in all three locations they advertised "free" collectible coins. However, I was unable to complete the sets due to the workers saying I have to purchase an item to get the coins. Even when I mentioned the coupon book and showed them my precious coins I got. Each time I went into the stores the workers were also extremely rude and acted like it was a problem to do the coins. If you don't like giving out free coins maybe you shouldn't advertise it. Another issue I had was I am over 21+ and a couple of the stores told me to "get my mommy and return" I simply replied with "I am an adult and can show you my id." I was able to get coins from stores 1-5. Store 6 said they "don't have that store anymore." Store 7/8 said I must purchase something before I get a "free" coin. And due to the lack of truthfulness from the other stores I didn't even try 9 because it wasn't worth me getting upset again. Definitely a major tourist trap across all the cruise ports in Alaska, including this one. They have this gimmick where they'll give you a free coin at each port and most of the ports have several stores so you can get several different coins. However, as far as I know, you have to be upsold and they are pretty aggressive in trying to get you to buy some jewelry, even though the coins are supposed to be free to get without obligations. We went into this one store in Skagway just to see what it's like, but since we didn't really need to buy jewelry, we just looked around a little and then left and they didn't offer to speak with us and we didn't see anything about the coins either. A month after purchasing what I was told was gold quartz pendants in Skagway, I finally received my appraisal for the two pendants stating that they are copper in quartz. Well, I sure as hell would not have paid the hefty sum that I did for copper quartz! I have made repeated attempts to call and message/email the company and have received not a single response. Can't recommend this company. Find a more reputable and responsive company to purchase from. ETA: I received a phone call from Meeta in the Las Vegas store who profusely apologized because Miner's Gems doesn't even sell gold-quartz. Clearly some mixup with the sales team at that Skagway store. She immediately refunded me the full purchase price as I will be returning the two pendants to Miner's Gems. He asked to try something on and they said no, when asked about the free coins they were so rude to him telling him we needed to buy something and then saying they don't have them available. Please don't advertise if you're not gonna be willing to provide them for people. He would have never asked if he hadn't seen it in the coupon book which he also collects. They advertised a free gift coins and bracelet that says ALASKA. Bought pendant, given some of the items but the shop that certain letters or coins were saying to be at the shop were not correct. So for example Braclet is suppose to say alaska. Skagway didnt have the last a or k. So the bracelete doesnt even say the word. Also whale tail for coin collection.They need to organize that better or check their ad better. You would think they would save ones for those who bought things. I did do and Jay called me, but every time I answered he hung up. On a recent cruise to Alaska, I wanted to buy my wife a nice diamond bracelet. I had previously bought jewelry from the big names at the cruise ports in the Caribbean and was not happy with the experience so this time I chose Miner's Gems(A.K.A. Spectrum) in Skagway, AK. I bought two items: a bracelet and a matching ring. I picked up the appraisal from Meeta Jethani(owner) in Ketchikan a couple of days later. I paid $8900 for both pcs. Total appraisal value for both pcs was $13,380(!). When I returned home, I took both pcs to my local jeweler for an appraisal. I was shocked when the total appraisals came back at $5,600! There must be some mistake. So, I took it to a second appraiser and his total was $5,700. Both of my hometown jewelers were very close to each other. I knew I had been ripped off. Usually, the appraisals are higher than the replacement cost value which assures you can replace them from the insurance proceeds should you lose them or they get stolen. I knew I should not have even paid $5600 for them. I contacted Meeta and showed her the appraisals I had received. She steadfastly stood by her wildly inflated appraisals. When I pressed her, she offered to fix the workmanship issues and issue a partial refund. A nice attempt, but I still would have paid far more than the items were worth. I happen to be going to Las Vegas soon and told her I would be visiting their store in the Venetian. They really tried everything they could to get me to keep the pieces and I finally told them, in a very firm voice, I want my money back. The only thing I'll give them credit for is that they finally returned all of my money but that was after spending hundreds on local appraisals, writing numerous emails and negotiating with them for an hour in Las Vegas before I finally got my money back. In summary, what these cruise port jewelers do is post a price that is far over the value and then "give" you a huge discount. After you buy, they give you an inflated appraisal to convince you that your purchase was worthwhile. It's a scam. Even the workmanship was horrible. For one: There is a Starbucks in this store! Secondly, they have beautiful jewelry. If you try something on and like it, ask if it's on sale or if they have a discount on it. I bought a lovely ring, originally marked for $270, for $150!!! I bought it to replace my previous Topaz ring (my daughter's birthstone), which I had lost a month ago. The previous one I had cost me $170 & wasn't nearly as unique as this one & this new one also has a bigger stone. I love it so much. They even sized it for me for free on-the-spot within about 35 mins. All employees were helpful & friendly, even though they were swarming with customers. Also... I didn't even mention the selection! It's everything you could want in a jewelry store. Oh, and, how could I have almost forgotten... The guy who sold me my beautiful new ring, when I told him it was my girl's birthstone, he gave me a cute, silver flower charm to give to her- for free, just to be nice! I bought a beautiful white quartz ring on 8 August 2016 during my trip through Alaska. It was quite expensive $US1100. However, in September the stone fell out of the setting and since then I have been trying to contact the company - not just this store but without success. They do not even acknowledge my emails! I know I am using the correct email address as when I requested my valuation certificate after returning to Australia Gary responded to tell me it was on the way - and it was! I was not buying just shopping and saw a gold nugget bracelet i fell in love with. the price was quite high and also saw a nugget ring for my partner, after some haggling I got the bracelet and ring which included tax for a little under the original price of just the bracelet. The manager Shawn then threw in 2 other silver and onyx rings. After leaving I fell i must of over paid if he threw in those other rings. After mulling it over I called and spoke to Fahim in Anchorage who said he would have to speak to Shawn to see if he could reduce the price. After some back and forth, they did nothing and said all sales are final. I still love the jewelry but feel I was ripped off as there were no jewels just gold and under an ounce but over 3x the price of an ounce of gold. read more

I bought a ring on August 2nd and on August 3rd the stone fell out. We were on a cruise and out at sea for the day. I went to guests relations and found out this store was NOT on their recommended list (we were on the Celebrity Solstice). The women at the desk called the store for me from the ship as we did not have cell service. Eshwar was the manager I spoke with and he of course offered to fix it but I did not want it fixed as the quality was obviously not what I was told. Not only did the stone fall out but one of the prongs also broke. He promised me that I could get a refund and would call me back with the address to return the ring to. When we got back to Seattle 2 days later I still had not heard from him. So, I called again and spoke to Jay another manager. He promised to call me back in 10 minutes after he spoke to Eshwar. He did call back promptly as he promised. He had Eshwar with him and put him on the phone to speak to me. I was then told to call Fahim in their California office as he handled the returns and he would give me the address to return the ring. I immediately called Fahim and he said he would have to talk to Eshwar before he could make a refund and that could take up to 48 hours. What a run around!! Keep in mind we are still on vacation trying to see Seattle for the day before returning home. Eshwar did call me later in the day to say "No refund but I could send it to them and they would fix it". Not what I expected from a "quality" jewelry store. The merchandise is cheap and worth nothing. I should have known better when they reduced the listed price by 75%. I would have done better getting a ring out of a bubble gum machine. read more
