The entrance was free on the day we went and even on paid days is pretty reasonable at 30 pesos. The beautiful staircase and ballroom with its giant crystal chandelier take you back to another time. The solid but small collection of art in the downstairs level contains some large paintings that allow one to contemplate Argentine history especially in relation to water which feels quite relevant given the museum's location on the river bank. There is a small cafe in the museum, but it seems a shame to eat there, as it has no view of the river, and there are so many wonderful little spots in Tigre with a view or outdoor patio. The museum is the perfect size for an afternoon escape back in time on a rainy day. You can run through the exhibits in under an hour, but around two hours seems to be enough time to see everything including the grounds.

Loaded with both static and interactive displays, audio and video stations, one gets immersed and discovers the long, complicated existence of these islands. The one display that was really powerful to see was the display memorializing soldiers that perished during the war with Britain in 1982. Beautifully constructed and laid out building that includes a pool with a bird's eye view of the Malvinas. The museum also has a snack bar. No gift shop. Free entry.

Even more surprising is that governments can still conduct these types of heinous acts against their citizens. Wasn't sure what to expect as I was not up to date with Argentine political history before the Guerra de Las Malvinas/Faulkland Islands War. The museum takes you back through history and recounts how the civic-military junta came to power and committed acts against is citizens, both military and civilians: men, women andchildren; the press, other politicians, clergy-noone was spared. The museum sits on the beautiful yet haunting grounds of what was both a military academy and civi-military junta headquarters of where the clandestine operations against Argentines were carried out. Definitely a must when visiting Buenos Aires. Come experience it but be prepared to leave with your heart and mind in pieces. Due to the graphic nature, the museum does not recommend the experience for those under 15.
