Minneapolis Northwest KOA - Okay Boomer - Campgrounds Near Me - Maple Grove, Minnesota

I don't know what happened years ago when the other reviews here were written, but July 2021 the customer service was outstanding! Wonderful people running this place. We visited in a small travel trailer and had one of the pull thru sites, #52. It seemed to be one of the few with no shade and will request a different site next week when we return. However, it's convenient to everything and not a bad site, just others we like better after seeing the layout. They deliver your firewood to your site for you. A small bundle at the store is $7 or you can upgrade to $10 for twice as much and it's delivered right to your site. We stayed 2 nights while visiting relatives in the area and my boys (twins age 11) loved it! The mini golf ($2/player) is clean and well maintained, though the cups are higher than the greens on a few holes leaving us frustrated on a few shots.. shuffleboard was a hit (free) and the game room with air hockey ($.75/game) was where they spent most of their time. The game goes until someone scores 7 points. The other games were $.50 each. The pool was clean and had many chairs, though on the weekend it had more people than we wanted to hang with so we didn't do the pool. Wifi is available but very slow. I don't agree that it's not a destination spot as we've been to many campgrounds that definitely are NOT.. this KOA has the nicest and caring group of people working there as well as immaculate grounds, that I would recommend it highly. Obviously there are a multitude of things to do in the area and this is a great base camp for that. My only issue with all KOA's in general is that my boys cannot pop up a tent outside our tiny trailer with plenty of space and grass. That is a KOA rule so I can't pick on this place too bad about it. We are returning again next week for 3 nights and my boys are excited to stay again read more

Sad to say that in 45 states I have visited in the past year, staying mostly in KOA's , this was the worst experience yet. The campground was clean and well maintained but the owners/ front desk people were the worst They were extremely rude, inflexible and arrogant. They address my dissatisfaction by laughing. If I would have had a choice I would have left after day 3. Extra sad for me as I'm a Minnesotan of 40 years and came back only for business Miserable time read more

Stayed for just a couple of nights in July 2022. Everything was just right for our needs. Clean bathroom, spacious sites, walk-able campground, quiet, family friendly, nice little heated pool. Close and easy access to twin cities were we have friends and family so it is likely we will stay again. read more

Layout of sites and the hook ups are terrible! They need to invest money back into the place and fix it up. They kind of pick and choose the rules they'd like to enforce. If your not going to enforce a rule, why have it be a rule? I think the rates are to high for what you get. If you're just going to spend the night, stay at the Walmart nearby. read more

Stayed here August 4-7, 2014. I would probably give this place 3.5 stars. Our site was spacious. The campground is nice enough. People in the store were nice. Smallish pool but clean and not heated (which is a bonus for us but some people complained about that). Not much to do on site. Tiny mini golf, small but maintained playground, shuffle board and a game room that We never visited. This is the perfect place to use as your home base if you plan on doing a lot of sight seeing (Mall of America, Twins game etc) but it's not a destination/resort type campground. Oh my what customer service! These people know what hospitality is. They brought down wood and they kept it coming! Amazing with our kids and just all around great people. Honestly if you have some kind of camping device give them a chance. Just amazing! read more

Clean. Owners are really friendly. They have a fenced dog area and a nice game room. Would stay here again. Sites are kind of small.

Wide roads and easy turns. Our space seemed very level, the Jacks hardly moved when leveling. Seems very family friendly. A large number of stores are within 2 miles including a Walmart, Sams Club, Walgreens, Big Lots, Dollar Store, Goodwill and a gas station. Relatively easy access to I 94 and the split to I 494 and I 694. Very nice management personnel. WiFi is unsecured and they do say no streaming. I found the connection very slow in the 6-11 PM time period so I suspect people stream anyway. It disconnects often so do not play games thst use timers. They just added a new fenced dog run on 14 Oct 16 but keep an eye on tiny dogs as they may be able to get under the fence. The only down side beyond their control is hunters in the corn fields near the park early in the morning, our dogs were freaking out from the shotguns. read more

Stayed here two years ago and the owners were rude. They changed our spot to give to a regular, even though they were just one night and ours was for 5 days. Gave us a site that did not have sewer, un level etc. tried to complain and the owner said we go somewhere else. read more

Cancelled a reservation for a cabin more than 24 hours ahead. According to national policy a minium of 48 hours is required for cancellation. They refused to refund our money and now we are out $57.93. We also reserved a cabin at Albert Lea KOA. When we arrived we discovered the cabin was very far from the rest rooms for folks our ages (retired). They issued us a refund in full and told us to use it to rent a motel room. I wouldn't recommend this KOA (Minneapolis Northwest) to anyone who values an honest business. I think most people use a gun when they hold people up. Cannot recommend this business to anyone. STAY CLEAR of this KOA!!! read more
