A great worship experience but the wrong address on YELP! The real address 316 10th Ave SE…read more Now, the worship: not just the generic "Smells & Bells." Everything they do has meaning behind it and there are people there who can tell you about it. If you've never experienced traditional liturgical worship, you couldn't ask for a better place to start. The congregation sings the liturgy along with the pastor. And you'll sing about a half a dozen hymns while you're there. Don't worry, there will probably be somebody standing behind you who sings out and lends courage to your voice. If that doesn't work there's an organ and a choir in the loft above and behind you so that the music wafts out and fills the whole space. The lyrics are old and they mean something. It's anything but Christian karaoke with lyrics that make it sound like Jesus is supposed to be your boyfriend. The intention is to "sing doctrine into your heart." If the word "doctrine "makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, fear not. There are people there that can explain to you why doctrine is your friend. The preaching is straight and solid. It's not a peptalk. It's not going to show you how to keep your marriage faithful and your kids off drugs. The law is reached as law and the gospel is preached as gospel. If "Law & Gospel" is a new one to you, there are people there for that, too. I keep mentioning the people. Don't worry, it's not a cult. You won't have a dozen people trying to love bomb you into the congregation. A few people will say hi to you. If you want to visit with them, you can. If you just wanna sit and take it in you, can do that. But you will be welcomed. I know for a fact because I'm a tourist here myself who stumbled in after finding it on Yelp. Went to the wrong address first. Glad I found the right address.

While I am not a member of this church, I have visited 4 or 5 times over the past year, and each time, I have come away with the following views of this community: 1) They're all about the person, Jesus Christ. He lived and He died and He rose again - for all of us. 2) They're going to love on you. People are genuinely welcoming, and not in a superficial way. 3) The teaching is powerful, intellectually challenging, and thoroughly Bible-centric. If you want to dig in further on their theological views, check out http://hopecc.com/about-us/mission-vision/. 4) You're going to be called to serve God there. They have countless opportunities to serve the city, serve the church, and serve globally. The church is located in downtown Minneapolis, so get ready to dig in to serve our city. http://hopecc.com/serve/ 5) Hope CC takes music seriously: "it as it is the duty of the Worship Team to follow the model of God's creational artistic example by striving to create accessible, authentic, (and sometimes provocative!) musical art." Their worship centers around hymns composed/arranged within modern/contemporary music styles. They're recording a worship album now. I cannot recommend this church highly enough. Check it out.
