Two options, kraut or potato. While both are phenomenal if you can only get one, get the potato. You order them by the dozen go to the church and pick them up. Then you devour them! If you thought you were going to get some for lunch and dinner, you were wrong, pick up an extra dozen, you will thank me later! There is also an option to eat in for lunch if it works for you. So do yourself a favor, take off early on a Friday and pick up some pierogies to go!!

It's a caring community of faith affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) . The morning worship services on Sunday morning is very low key, creative and casual. The laity have an active role in the congregation, participating in worship and sharing their own spiritual insights. If you are looking for a church where the pastor is the only "holy person" you won't find it here. The church has also participated in mission and ministry. We have participated with other congregations in packing meals with Feed My Starving Children, a local organization that helps feed the hungry in other nations, Dining Out for Life, which helps local HIV/AIDS charities and the Minneapolis Crisis Nursery and Joyce Foodshelf. The other thing that is very cool about the church is that it is welcoming of gay and lesbian people. We have a number of members (including myself) who are openly gay and are welcomed totally into the life of the church. We aren't officially open and affirming, but don't worry, you will be welcomed as one of the family. The other cool thing is that we gather every Wednesday (every other Wednesday during the summer) for prayer and singing. Tammy, the Associate, leads us as we share what is going on in our lives, look over the prayer requests sent in, sing songs and pray. This is a wonderful reminder that this is really a community that cares. So, I would definitely consider coming to church one Sunday. They meet every Sunday at 10am.

I might have found my place at Christ Lutheran Church on Capitol Hill. I enjoy the combination of stained glass and graffiti that greets visitors -- along with a seemingly endless line of friendly church members. Christ Lutheran offers a hymn-filled traditional service that takes full advantage of the pipe organ featured in the Church's balcony. Contemporary elements added to the service include Gospel readings in Khmer, Tigrinia and English -- and a Cambodian Melody arrangement of the Lord's Prayer. The Hymns incorporated also tend to be newer, familiar ones -- such as 'Gather Us In' and 'We are Marching in the Light.' Everyone is invited to participate in communion, which featured ethnic, homemade bread during my visit. Christ Lutheran has on-site parking. It's also on the Green Line, making it easy to get to by train.The Chapel is large and filled with friendly people of all ages and cultures. If you're new to Lutheran Churches, be prepared for 'Passing of the Peace' where you have an opportunity to greet and shake hands with other members. This portion of the service feels like what you'd experience at a small church -- individuals walk throughout the church to greet others and hug friends. Even as a new visitor, I wasn't excluded from a tidal wave of handshakes and greetings. I'll likely make CLC on Capitol Hill my home congregation and explore other churches in the Twin Cities for occassional, contemporary offerings.

Back to Urban: The ministry has transitioned from Evergreen churches and also the leadership has changed significantly. When I attended there were three pastors 2 white and one Black man. I loved the shared leadership. The previous and current leadership consistently preached the word while addressing current events, social/ civil unrest and political divisions. It's refreshing to see that the gospel was the focal point while not ignoring the signs of the time. Urban has been instrumental in providing pastoral counseling to myself and other members, diverse worship styles, movie and discussion in the Harmony group along with service opportunities, breaking bread alongside one another and mission opportunities. Sankofa trips and beyond. Urban Refuge is a beacon of Christ centered multiethnic gospel centered church. They have service on Sundays at 10am they have a great youth Pastor as well Jonathan's amazing!

Everytime i visit here, it gives a family feel…read more Ambiance: This is a small, non-denominational church that provides outreach services. From the outside, it reminds me of an old tv repair shop with stain-glass windows and a small parking lot adjacent to the building. It stands on the corner of Chicago and 38th Street, two very busy and infamous intersections, that have their own stories to tell. The inside of the church is small; two level. When you walk into the double door, there's a small entryway and then a room of many chairs and a pulpit that takes up the majority of the west wall. It's a modest church, with a congregation that is warm, inviting and friendly. Your greeted by ushers and provided with a bulletin of what's going on within the church weekly and for the month and sheet to give any prayer requests that you may have. Service: You're coming for the message, but I suppose the combination factor are the people as well, who help make up the congregation or who visit. The Pastor, Curtis Farrar, preaches a message that has passion and heart and knowledge, but he has an approach that makes him relatable and real. He seems to really care if you have a relationship with God and wants to teach you how to. They have prayer on Monday at 7pm, Bible Study on Wed at 7pm, Friday night service at 7pm, Sunday services at 9 & 11am. I'll be back!

The orchestral Masses are unique in the United States and rare in the world. The Twin Cities Catholic Chorale sings about 24 settings of the Mass, using the treasury of sacred music from the classical and Romantic eras (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Dvorak, etc.) Powerful, beautiful music that lifts hearts and minds to God, presented in a gorgeous Austrian baroque church. Not to be missed.
