This monument to Christopher Columbus literally stands out, as it is almost 200 feet tall. It was built in the late 1800s to commemorate his first voyage to America. A statue of Columbus himself is atop the monument and shows him with his arm stretched out supposedly pointing towards the New World. It is an impressive structure and is conveniently located at the end of La Rambla, so it is a good idea to get photos of it.

Also known as Mirador De Colom Barcelona in Spanish. It is situated at the Port Vell marina. (End of La Rambla Street). There is a statue of Columbus at the top of the 60m column. I wondered who Columbus is pointing to and I googled, let me answer for you "Columbus is often thought to be pointing his right hand towards the New World while holding a map in the left. His hand is pointing east towards Columbus's home city of Genoa." The Columbus monument was built to honor the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America. Columbus presented his findings to the Catholic monarchs of Spain, Queen Isabella of Castile and King Ferdinand of Aragon, after discovering the Americas. Columbus stands on a globe with the inscription 'Tierra' which means earth. The base on the column you can find scenes from Columbus' first voyage to the Americas. The Gothic Quarter is where Christopher Columbus was received by the Catholic Monarchs after his first voyage to the New World. While visiting La Rambla, you can check out this too.

Columbus is well known in Japan. "The Columbus is in Spain!?" I thought at first, but it was the Queen of Spain who provided the funding for the Columbus voyage. The direction that Columbus points to is the New World. There is a romance. It seems that you can go inside and climb the tower, but I enjoyed only outside.

Awesome Mirador where you can see the entire city of Barcelona! The ticket prices were very reasonable and if you have the Barcelona Card--the tickets are half price! We decided on getting the ticket with a glass of wine at the bar at the bottom of the Mirador. The elevator to the top is very narrow and the top is also very narrow. You can spend as much time as you like at the top and take beautiful pictures from any angle. We spent about 30 minutes at the top enjoying the view. At the bottom we went to the very comfortable bar and ordered a glass of white and red wine. They also carry Oller Del Mas wine that we had at the Castle Winery Tour. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They also have free WiFi!

The Monument a Colon is a 197 foot tall monument for Christopher Columbus at the lower end of La Rambla. It was constructed for the Exposición Universal de Barcelona (1888) and is located at the site where Columbus returned to Spain after his first voyage to the Americas. The monument serves as a reminder that Barcelona is where Christopher Columbus reported to Queen Isabella and Ferdinand after Columbus' most famous trip. This Statue (and associated Traffic Circle) marks a dividing point between La Rambla and Coastal Barcelona. Gayle and I walked past a few times and was a convenient stop on our Bus Touristic route. However, if you want a more relaxing and local walk along La Rambla, Gayle and I loved the area on the other side of the Plaça de Catalunya.

A wonderful tribute to a great explorer and a great landmark at the end of the Las Ramblas. We used it as a meeting point in case we got separated in the crowds. It was a beautiful sunny day so the monument stood out. We also got to see it at night with the spotlights in full brightness. The statue of Queen Isabella also stands out as a reminder that she was the one that supported the explorations that Columbus undertook. Well worth a visit.

In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue. We stayed right by the Columbus Monument and decided on our last day that we'd visit. It's a tall tower with a statue of Christopher Columbus on top of it. There's an elevator inside that will take you to the top so you can view the city in all its 360 degree glory. Free with the Barcelona card, otherwise it's about €4 to ride the elevator. Great views but slightly claustrophobic.

Nice monument at the seaside of the promenade at Las Rambas. Information is actually about tours. The store is heated with no restrooms

There was a lot of construction around the church so viewing this time was limited, glad I have visited before & can say it really is an amazing church & one of the most recognizable places u can visit in Barcelona. Designed by Gaudi which started in 1882 & from what I gathered it has finally been completed now in 2026. This church is amazing & should be a stop during your visit, I am for sure looking forward to my next visit to be able to see this amazing church finally finished.

Construction is still ongoing, and if you plan to tour the interior, I strongly recommend purchasing tickets well in advance. The demand is incredibly high, and unfortunately, tickets were sold out during my visit. The basilica continues to hold Mass on Sunday mornings, but I was already scheduled to be elsewhere and was unable to attend. According to our tour guide, Pope Leo is expected to visit the basilica to bless it, adding yet another chapter to the history of this extraordinary church. As you study the façade, you begin to appreciate the remarkable level of artistry and symbolism incorporated into every detail. Scenes from the Nativity, depictions of Jesus, and tributes to Joseph all come together to tell a visual story. The craftsmanship is astounding, and there is so much detail that I would actually recommend bringing binoculars or a small pair of opera glasses to fully appreciate the intricate carvings and architectural elements. Whether you are religious, spiritual, or simply an admirer of great architecture, this is a destination that should not be missed. The scale, beauty, and symbolism of the Sagrada Família are truly awe-inspiring, and it is one of those rare places that can quite literally take your breath away.

That being said, I purchased tickets for us to explore during our first full day in the city. Casa Batlló is one of several structures in Barcelona designed by Antoni Gaudí. I believe this was originally designed as a private residence, and has since become a showcase of the type of work Gaudí produced. The visits are self-guided, and once you enter you are given an audio guide that you can use throughout the house that provides information about the space you're in. The house itself is gorgeous. It's so intricately designed with different themes throughout the space. The audio guide really helped here as it told the history behind each room. I found myself snapping tons of pictures, or just standing there and taking it all in. As expected, there were a couple of gift shops, and some interactive exhibits scattered throughout the house as well. Note that not all spaces are open to all guests, it depends on the type of ticket you buy; that being said, even if you get the base ticket you will see a lot. Also, this place naturally attracts Instagrammers - be aware there are lots of people posing for the camera, Overall, Casa Batlló was an awesome experience. It was my first taste of Gaudí's influence on the city, and I would definitely return for another visit.
