Mirador de San Nicolas is a popular spot to view the Alhambra at sunset. Although it is an upward hike to this lookout point, we thought that the view completely justified the walk. Also, on the hike back to the city center of Granada we passed some cool markets and restaurants. If you are going to come here at sunset then come early as you will need to stake out a spot. We got a spot sitting along the wall and hanging our feet over the wall. We got some great photos of each other with the Alhambra in the background as well. Just a thought...I'm sure that the sunrise is as beautiful as the sunset. If you are an early riser you may want to try it that way so that you don't have to deal with other tourists. You could also come to this lookout spot in the middle of the day but you just won't have the beautiful sunset shot. Another idea is that there are a few restaurants along the walk to the mirador where if you get there early and get a spot you have a nice sunset view of the Alhambra. read more

Come here for the views of the Alhambra. Also if you want to skip the gym, the walk up is fantastic for leg day. Great photo ops along the way as well! Of course I hiked up at the hottest time of the day during one of the hottest and most crowded times of the year. So yeah, don't do this. There are just a few scattered stone benches and most are in the full sun. However the view is breathtaking! I included some photos of the calles along the way as well. Eating options are limited and since I came during the hottest time of the day, the cafes I wanted to go to were all closed for siesta. See if you can stop at the Monastery of Santa Isabel on the way. They bake homemade muffins! read more

A not to be missed view in Granada...but there are two ways to experience this: 5:00PM: Tourists, tourists, tourists, tourists, tourists, tourists, locals, smokers, street vendors, and probably a few pickpockets...its an overcrowded mess with a beautiful view of the Alhambra. Its impossible to get nice clean picture of yourself and Alhambra At least its free. 8:30AM: Not a soul in sight! Not quite, there were a couple of municipal workers cleaning the streets. But otherwise, I had the entire place to myself! It was quiet, peaceful, and beautiful. This was 10 times better than my 5:00PM visit. The Alhambra was much more easier to appreciate without the second hand smoke and the loud chatter of the masses of annoying humans. If you're a hyperactive tourist like me, try to get here in the morning before the human horde arrives. read more

Mirador De San Nicolas offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Alhambra, the Sierra Nevada mountain range, and Granada. The viewpoint is about a 20 minute uphill walk from the center of town or you can pay €1.2 and take minibus 31 or 32 to the Plaza S. Nicolas stop. Well worth the hike! (Not sure why you'd take a public trans option, unless you were disabled.) I visited near sunset and YES...there were lotsa tourists, quite a few vendors, and some gypsy musicians. As per another review, don't expect to get a clear photo without anyone in the background. On the upside, you'll experience some lively atmosphere! Beautiful look-out point with the Sierra Nevada Mountains/Alhambra, not to be missed, especially for photogs! read more

It offers awesome views of the Alhambra and Granada with the Sierra Mountains in the background. It is not as high up as the Mirador de San Miguel Alto. Accordingly, the view is slightly less impressive. Of course, it is a lot less effort to get to San Nicolas. Again, the views are obviously still exceptional. On the other hand, it is usually packed with people and especially busy at sunset. Definitely take a walk through Albaicín when you visit Granada and San Nicolas is worth a stop no matter the time of day. Naturally, sunset is the prettiest time. If you hike to the or take a cab up to Mirador de San Miguel Alto, it is higher up and even more spectacular view. When I was touring the Alhambra, my guide pointed up at the Mirador de San Miguel Alto and recommended it as the best view of Granada. She also noted that former U.S. President Bill Clinton once visited the viewpoint and said it was the most beautiful sunset in the world. Was he just trying to charm the city of Granada as a politician might do? Perhaps. I can definitely not declare it as the best in all the world because there are a lot of exceptional places for sunsets. Nonetheless, it certainly provides spectacular panoramic views. The views of the Alhambra, the city of Granada below, and the Sierra Mountains in the back provide a perfect backdrop for sunset. I made my way up to San Miguel then started coming down more than an hour before the sun set. Nevertheless, the sun started descending and looked like it was shining directly upon the Alhambra. It was a breathtaking sight. Visitors can take a cab right to the top of San Miguel. I took the steep walk up. If you are a hiker or physically active on a regular basis, it should not be that big of a deal. It took me less than an hour to walk from the Alhambra and through the Albaicín neighborhoods to get to the viewpoint. It will take similar time or less to make your way from Plaza Nueva. I made my way to the Carril de San Miguel. There is a cross, Cruz de la Rauda - Mirador, and the steep stairs to the top are behind it. You walk through shacks that are built into the side of the mountain. At times, I felt I was walking through a shady part of town but no one bothered me and other tourists were also walking up and down the stairs. Regardless, the walk was worth it. San Miguel had the best view in the city. Moreover, the trek up prevents it from being as crowded as the most popular spot for sunset: Mirador de San Nicolas. This is a great spot to get a view of La Alhambra. We were staying in a hotel near the river Darro, so it was quite the hike up through the Albaicin for us. It was a little confusing to get there, but once we did, the view was incredible and 100% worth the hike. It was crowded, and if you want to sit, I'd get there early. There were some stands selling local artisans' work when we were there. I would definitely recommend it if you visit Granada! read more

Absolutely worth the climb for the best view of Granada and the Alhambra. Be sure to leave enough time to get there 20 minutes before sunset. The process is beautiful to watch! Great route is through the Albaicin and scaling the side with quotes/sayings written on the steps. read more

Nice view but with all of the hype people give this place, I wasn't too impressed. Maybe it is because we went to the Alhambra first and nothing can be better than those views? People kept telling us the view from here gave you the best view of the Alhambra but there were buildings and cranes in between. Going down the small streets was definitely a fun adventure though. read more

First, this is a free thing to do so that is great. The walk to the site is very nice and picturesque. We were they in the early afternoon and some guys were playing guitars and singing which really addedto the experience (if you enjoy then tip). The views were great!! Tip: walk back the way you came in. The streets are winding and you could end up talking a slightly longer return. read more

It can get very crowded in the evening but it is a good view of the entire city of Granada, Spain. It is a lot of walking with a lot of steps that is uneven. Be careful or you will trip and twist something....I did. I burned some much needed calories that day. It has the most beautiful sunset of Spain. On the top level on the weekends there is a craft market with local vendors with some stuff that is the usual fair and a few really cool hand made stuff. Eateries and gypsy shops are near by. Best view of Alhambra as the sun sets by far. I was in the restaurant just below the plaza when the lights came on and the view was daunting so the plaza is the same if not better. Arts for sale, locals and tourists congregating in mass, and no hidden secret here. located in the hills of albaicin, the old city of granada, this gathering place is open and free to the public. this is where all the local artists come to sell their crafts and where tourists come to purchase these local goods, which include jewelry, handwoven bags, and crafty items that make great souvenirs. it is definitely the place to come, hang out, check out the locals, and enjoy a gorgeous view of the city centre and the alhambra castle. there are several restaurants surrounding this plaza so you can also get a bite to eat at one of the restaurants that offers a beautiful view. it can definitely get crowded here in the middle of the day, so keep your eyes and a hand on your bags so that you don't get pickpocketed. read more

If you're in Granada, you might as well make the trek here because after seeing the Alhambra, there's really not much else to do in Granada. We did the Alhambra in the morning and then took Cuesta de Los Chinos to Albayzin. There were signs initially directing you to the viewpoint but then near the Mirador it gets confusing. Good luck. We got there in the early afternoon so the lighting wasn't great for photography. If you're spending the night, consider going there near sunset. read more
