Based on their terms and conditions, if you don't withdraw your application before July 1st, you are responsible for paying THE WHOLE year's tuition ($27000+ in our case). Even if, for whatever reason, you realize you can't send your baby to this school. Even if you relocate, or your baby is not happy there, or you realize you don't like their approach, or even (and this is the most absurd case) if your baby is inconsolable and they call you to come and pick him/her up every day, you are still responsible for paying the tuition in full. Moreover, they don't let parents observe how their baby adjusts initially. They don't guarantee to answer your phone call; indeed, we called four times and left messages, and they didn't answer for days. Some schools let you watch through CCTV, come and check in regularly the first few days, or have an app to see what's going on. This school has none of that. We are talking about sending a baby under one year old to an entirely new place for the first time without his/her parents. As parents, we have to stay in the dark about how he/she behaves. Considering these factors, we withdrew on April 26th, over four months before the term began. Despite having paid $3,800+, NONE of it was refunded. To be fair, they insist that their school is not for everyone. Take that seriously! We believe their registration's terms and conditions are very unreasonable, to say the least.

Never have I met a more passionate, dedicated, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic educator. Her background in reading and social education were key to us making the decision to enroll. -It utilizes "The Virtues Project," which places emphasis on character development and morality that is absent in most educational programs. -My son is gaining skills that were challenging for me to address prior, such as fine motor strength and adaptive skills. He has only been attending 5 months and is already showing proper grip for holding writing utensils and is eager to dress himself. Areas that were nonexistent prior. -The Montessori Method is fully implemented with gorgeous materials, a clean and peaceful environment, and with everything accessible. -It's affordable. My son only attends twice a week for half of the day, which is infrequently an option at Montessori schools. This allows me to remain the primary educator of my child, replaces the multiple classes we were paying for previously, gives me a short break to grocery shop or complete errands, and allows my child to experience a school atmosphere with a wide-range of peers. Lastly, but perhaps most importantly, the school is socio-economically and culturally diverse with its student and teacher population. Children are not only being taught about multiculturalism, they are experiencing it with one another. This lays a foundation of positive interactions, understanding, and appreciation for the beauty of humanity for children during their most tender years.

Children spend time in Prospect Park, nearby playgrounds, exploring the neighborhood, but the school also has a small dedicated backyard. Enrichment includes yoga and music classes. I highly appreciate that even in the last few years, Parker's Place has remained a haven of normalcy where kids can be kids who play, make art, and exercise (rather than virus-vectors).

It strikes me as sad that the school will require adults to wear masks but not children to protect their safety as well. The science is quite clear: masks work. When I asked the school about this, they claimed they have had no cases so are quite confident in their policy. I was pretty shocked to read that because it seems to claim that the policy of no masks works to prevent the spread of Covid. That's obviously luck and not science! I had high hopes for this school but during the pandemic have to choose safety for my child first.

Our daughter is shy, eager to learn, and takes time to be comfortable with new people.  Since the first day of school she adored her teacher, made friends, and seems to make new friends with the other children and staff members every week as she excitingly tells us stories about her day.  She comes home every day with a general sense of pride in what she learned. HWIS really focuses on building a strong culture,  nurturing a childs mind, and bringing phenomenal talent in the teachers and administration to ensure the school itself continue to improve. We feel that immersive education is far greater than other schools that teach other languages as an exercise of repetition and translation.  HWIS truly adheres to leverage the benefits of immersing the students with the language (Spanish /Mandarin) while teaching them the core  curriculum.  We feel we made the best possible choice for our daughter and have been extremely satisfied with her development and growth.

We were so excited about this school - it's beautiful, we love the philosophy, they have great exmissions, they said they took the children to play in the park nearby. And our first year in a toddler room was magical. The teacher was a phenomenal resource, our son grew and made some terrific friends, and we were excited for him to go to primary. Well, primary was a disaster. He had a young and inexperienced teacher who meant well, but telegraphed her disapproval of our high-spirited, high-energy, emotionally still very young kid so that our formerly school-loving child started melting down at every dropoff. An administration that wouldn't accommodate a request for change to a classroom where he had good friends, and seemed ill-equipped (or ill-inclined) to help him in general. When he needed extra physical movement, they had him walk in a circle along a piece of tape stuck to the floor. Carrying a cotton ball on a spoon. Which, as you've probably noticed, is not playing in the nearby park. No one said anything nice about our son to us at all until we informed them of our decision to leave. We went back to an AMS lab Montessori school in a different state, and the contrast is extreme. Teachers with decades of experience, lots of communication and support, lots of ability to respond to the needs of individual children who mature at different rates in different areas. The entire administration of the new school knows his name and says hello to him in the halls. Outdoor playground time every single day. And, it must be said, it's half the price. You might have an excellent experience at Flatiron. I hope you do. I wish we had.

I couldn't ask for, or even imagine, anything better. The administration/ownership is bad. Aloof is probably too generous an adjective. It's Trumpian in the sense that it seems centered on what furthers their own idiosyncratic goals (eg prestige, donations, growth); which might not be the same as yours or your child's. In the end (if you can manage the tuition, and don't need any favors from the administration) it's a wonderful place.

We wanted a space where our child could grow, explore and develop their own sense of curiosity and TMH exceeded all of that. With the evolution of technology assisting in all aspects of our lives now; a learning experience that is grounded on building blocks and a hands on approach was fundamental when we were looking for early education. Not all children learn the same and the teachers do a great job at tailoring their approach to each and focus on their curiosities. Every part of the curriculum is so thoughtful and intentional. Some of the smallest activities are teaching them a skill that eventually becomes something bigger.  It's amazing to witness and the parents get a chance to see this first hand during parent visit days. "I didn't know my child could do that" is a common sentiment I hear amongst the parent group.  Beyond the curriculum - Our child will be completing the kindergarten program after having spent 3 years in the school and she couldn't be more excited. Her early days were supported by the older friends in the class and now she gets a chance to do the same. They are now some of her closest friends and the parents too!  The level of confidence and independence they have developed along the way has been nothing short of amazing. Having witnessed many of the friends in the class grow into their own personalities throughout the years have been fun to see. It's no surprise that families often enroll their siblings to TMH even after the older ones have graduated!

My child comes home with wonderful art projects all the time. The kids also have Spanish and yoga lessons. The school really focuses on the children's development and my child comes home talking about different planets! The school is located in the picturesque Snug Harbor Cultural Center, with a big playground under mature trees. We are very happy here and highly recommend it!

Children's Harbor Montessori School is a phenomenal school! I could not be happier with my…read moredaughter's progress throughout this school year, not only with regard to academics, but also her socialization skills, self-confidence, artistic expression, and her overall motivation to learn. The school environment is unbelievably welcoming to both students and parents and we both felt at home there immediately. Parents are invited into the classroom (for entire class sessions!) regularly to share the school full experience with their children--there is absolutely nothing to hide at CHMS! The entire school is immaculate and gorgeous--classrooms are spacious with tons of natural light streaming in and they feature the children's artwork everywhere you turn. Also, the children have weekly yoga and music classes in addition to art! The teachers at Children's Harbor are all Montessori trained and go the extra mile on a daily basis; they do a wonderful job creating a child-centered atmosphere that really makes students look forward to each school day (even my daughter who was not at all the type to want to go to school in her two years of preschool before attending CHMS), and they individualize the work so that each child moves at his/her own pace and on the appropriate level. The students learn through play--just the way they should at this age. I truly feel that this makes the children really soar! My daughter's teacher takes her personality into account when working with her and this makes all the difference. My daughter didn't have much of an interest in letters at the start of the school year, but now she has mastered them and is reading and writing beautifully. I'm astounded! I really can't believe that she is getting a true Montessori education for FREE because they offer UPK (now known as "Pre-K for all"). I am a teacher and have taught UPK at both private and public schools and have worked at a local college as a supervisor of early childhood student teachers in many different pre-k classrooms. These experiences have allowed me the unique opportunity to gain an insider's perspective on pre-k, and I can honestly say from experience that Children's Harbor really stands out among Staten Island preschools. It's a bit of a drive for us, but I don't mind it all all because I am so confident that my daughter is getting the best pre-k education possible and that this experience will have long-term positive effects on her attitude toward education. My 2 sons went to TASA this past Spring. My 6 year went for reading and writing. And my 4 year…read moreold went for additional speech therapy to supplement the one he receives in school. We are very pleased with the results. Jacquie and Vanessa are great with the boys and they loved going to TASA after school. Both boys have IEPs and I'm pretty sure we are on track with those goals. As a parent of two "special ed" kids, I have anxiety about their education. We want to make sure my 4 year-old speech is as optimal as possible for kindergarten in the Fall. And we want to make sure my 6 year-old can keep up his reading & writing in the 1st grade this Fall. Vanessa & Jacquie provide great homework and at-home exercises and tips. These are all individualized accordingly. We've been through the process since Early Interventions, with many therapists, teachers and other additional help. We are most satisfied with TASA for its quality, individualized, comfortable services. And most importantly, the kids loved going to TASA. We are sending the 6 year-old back to TASA for Speech this Summer since he doesn't have Summer school. Can't let him regress.
