Weigh, pay, unload and hit the road. Very easy.

Wow, that was easy and fun. I had to get rid of a piece of furniture that had outlived its useful life and couldn't be given away or sold. My options were to put its pieces in the regular trash over several weeks; arrange a special pickup with our trash hauler; or get it over with in one trip to the Miramar Landfill. I chose the latter, it made for a fun mini-adventure and I renewed my man-card. Located where Convoy dead ends just north of the 52, I found the signs confusing and wasn't quite sure where to go. I stopped at the recycling center to see if my load could be recycled. No dice - off to the landfill. I stopped at the weigh station, described my payload and paid the fee. The flat rate per carload pricing was annoying because I only had one item (although it was taken apart) but at least the pricing was transparent and unambiguous. The attendant told me where to go, I drove up the paved and then the dirt road, backed up into the dropoff spot, removed my cargo and left for home.

I had my first visit here over the weekend. We had a lot of miscellaneous items to get rid of, mostly furniture and household items. Based on my experience, upon entry, they ask you what you are throwing away, quickly look at what's inside your truck load, and have you pay based on the size of your vehicle. We had an oldschool 86 Chevy S10, and we were charged $38. You just follow the signs based on what items you have, you back up the truck, and just start pushing everything off. And that's it, you're done! And of course with any landfill, you have to expect it to be dusty, dirty and smelly. Although it honestly wasn't AS bad as I was expecting it to be. But while the giant bulldozers are pushing stuff around, a lot of debris is flying around, so I would suggest wearing goggles before you get some stuff in your eyes, like I did. Overall, it was quick and easy trip, although prices are slowly going up.

For all your dumping needs. Miramar Landfill is the place! After accumulating a driveway full of left over plastic, wood and sand bags worth absolutely nothing, I decided it was time to take a trip to the dump. But this is no dump. It's hidden a little north past Balboa Avenue on Convoy. Almost too discrete. I never knew it was there until I entered the gate and weigh station. I followed a curvy road for about a mile to a place were i got to have the fun of a do it yourself drop off. Very little smell and actually very clean. For someone who fancies themselves as a do-it yourself dumper this is the place. And please, just pay the money and stop dumping your trash on the side of the street in front of my house. Let's try to keep it where it belongs. The dump. Prices are a little steep. For my load. 34 dollars.

Well run landfill. Easy to access and well managed. Easy to get in and out along with being centrally located.

Super helpful and awesome to be able to get supplies for your yard, gardening, etc! ..and some free, like compost if you're a resident.

The price difference is very different-they know it and play games. There isn't a sign that says you need an ID, but you do. The Allan Company is located just inside the road off Convoy that leads into the Miramar landfill. The lot is quite run down and there is little signage. There is a small bungalow with a window for you to speak with a teller. The lot had plenty of parking on a Friday afternoon. The Allan Company does not take helium tanks for disposal. I was told by an employee there that the tank I brought them would explode. I called the general city Environmental Services line and confirmed that the Allan Company does not take helium tanks (even empty) and that they have to be disposed of as hazardous waste. As someone who works with hazardous wastes and compressed gasses on a normal basis I am confused how an empty helium tank with a hole in the container wall could explode or be considered hazardous waste, but nonetheless I could not recycle it. Would be nice if their website specifically said they do not accept helium tanks for recycling.

The place talks about some sort of "Nerd Candy" shop or something similar, which makes you think it's the business next door... but it's not. So you go in and ask about the "Nerd Candy", and if they sell candy at the tech recycling shop, but... it's just the name of their company. Then you walk back out the door and see that the same company has TWO different signs out front for TWO company names, but it's both in the same doorway and building. Finally, there's a sign that says "drop offs, use the back entrance" but this makes it sound like if you have an appointment to drop something off and leave with no explanation, you should use the back entrance, and as I had no appointment, I used the front entrance, which I got told to use the back entrance for. Better wording, like "if you have an appointment, use this entrance, if you don't, use the back" would make far more sense, but this is also a place that calls itself a brand name that sounds exactly like a candy shop at the same time as it sounds like a recycling shop. But the actual job they do, they did immaculately. No complaints there.
