i can't give this restaurant even one star. We just ordered 200 dollars of assorted dishes from here and four out of six of us were violently ill after. When I phoned to complain, the receptionist tried to blame it on untrained palates. My family no longer want to eat Indian even though prior to this order it was a favourite food. Sunday evening we visited there and it was not our first time there we usually go there but this time we had worst experience we have orderded three meals and they served us one of them wrong afterthat i told the girl and she served the correct one but we paid 60 dollar for those three deals that should be max 40 or 45 because we order the same meals every time so that dumb girl should know how to do billing. We were so tired at that time and could not figure out at that time also as we went regularly so we trusted them but now I am so frustrated whenever you go there don't trust them to go through the bill and then pay because they can do fraud even charge for the wrong meal which was their mistake. Came here with a party of 11 people on a busy Thursday night. Lots of other parties going on at the same time and the service was still amazing. The two servers we had named Gurpreet and Sarvajyoth. Both super friendly, quick to respond and easy on the eyes too. Food was super delicious. Our table ordered almost every thing from the menu. Classic butter chicken, tandoor chicken, lamb vindaloo, lamb masala, palak paneer, fish pakora, mushroom peas masala, etc etc etc I can go on. Great place, would come back again. This place was recommended by my brother and SIL who live in this neighbourhood. Since moving to North Delta last month, we were able to finally try this place and I must say, the food was delicious! We came a bit earlier than the typical dinner rush for a Sunday evening, so it wasn't as busy yet. But by the time we left an hr later, the place was nearly packed. I was in Surrey one Sunday afternoon and had heard that Surrey has some of the best Indian food in the Vancouver area. I found that this place was pretty popular so I decided to come here and try out the lunch menu. I was allowed to choose off either menu, which was nice since the lunch menu was smaller than the supper menu. I asked for what the server recommended for lunch, and they didn't really give a straight answer. I ended up ordering off the lunch menu what item looked the most unique. I decided to get the Tandoori Lunch Plate ($13) which was an absolutely great deal. Maybe because I get most of my food near downtown Vancouver I've grown to expect higher prices. I was super surprised how much food I got for a lunch item: 5 pieces of chicken, a side of sweet potatoes & spices, two large pieces of naan, and a crazy amount of rice. The rice was pretty bland, but the rest of the items were on point, especially the sweet potatoes which were seasoned super well. I couldn't finish all the rice and naan though, so I would've been happier if they gave more chicken or potatoes instead. I read an earlier review saying that they experienced odd service similar to me. The waiters didn't smile, brought out food without saying anything, and the machine didn't even ask for a tip. I propose maybe increase the prices of the meals to pay the servers a bit more haha. Either way, the large portion of food kept me happy for the rest of the day. read more

* It is all about the spicing * For me Indian food is all about the spices. A good blend of fresh spices can make or break a dish. This place make their own specially ground spice blends, and it shows in the complex flavour profiles in their dishes. I got to try a variety of their dishes. Some of the highlights included: - a perfectly flavoured tandoori chicken that had just the right blend of spices on the nicely charred skin surrounding succulent juicy meat inside. A lovely balance. - a complex lamb curry that had multiple levels of spicing. The meat was perfectly tender and the curry surprised with its flavours. - a rich shahi paneer. The paneer was the perfect texture and contrasted nicely with the rich tomato based creamy curry which boasted its own flavour profile (I detected cardamon, chili, and something else which I couldn't put my finger on). - a brightly flavoured aloo gobhi. The cauliflower was at the perfect doneness - not a mushy mess like it can so frequently become. The fresh cilantro used as a garnish added a nice freshness to the spicing. All of this was accompanied by freshly made nan, a fluffy rice, and a cooling raita. Finished off with a Ras Malai where the cheese was a light fluffy consistency combined with the sweetness of the milk and rose water. A perfect end to a lovely meal! This restaurant has very good lunch specials from 11am-3pm (every day). The price is reasonable and the food tastes great. The lunch special comes with your choice of a main dish. You can choose from any of the chicken, lamb, shrimp or veggie dishes as your main dish. This special comes with rice, naan, vegetable of the day and raita (indian yogurt). As an appetizer we tried the chicken tikka which came out sizzling hot. It was delicious and my favourite part of the meal.  Along with the sautéed vegetables and the green chutney - the chicken was done just right and the flavours meshed together perfectly. As our main, we opted to try the butter chicken and also the chili chicken. The butter chicken was delicious and the creamy goodness could be tasted in every bite. The chicken was not overly done and did not taste old. The spices in the sauce were just right not too over powering or overly bland. The vegetable of the day was cauliflower and potatoes. The chili chicken was delicious as well, not too spicy. I preferred the butter chicken over the chili chicken personally.  The naan, rice, and raita complimented the meal nicely as well. The restaurant is really nice inside with a modern decor. The service is okay, the server was courteous and attentive. I would highly recommend this place if you haven't tried it out before. read more

This used to be my go to place for paneer pakoras until they ruined the taste by stuffing very spicy green chilli paste in the middle. Atleast offer the customer the non-spicy version and tell us before you change the recipe what a waste of $10 bucks for like 8 pakoras what a rip off for bad taste. They made the portions smaller and jacked up the prices. I am better off buying a box of $4.99 Nanak paneer pakoras from the grocery store and deep frying them myself they are much more delicious than what this place is trying to charge people. Atleast they are not stuffed with mouth burning disgusting chilli paste. I won't be eating here ever again. The quality of the food has gone downhill. read more

Whenever we go to Surrey we always go for Indian food. This place was delicious! The exterior was deceiving- a restaurant attached to a closed down burger joint, but the inside was extremely clean and posh (had a dark and black 'leather' look, like a Cactus Club). We ordered the samosa and channa as an appetizer. I was really craving samosas! The samosas were freshly fried, big, not too thick skinned and perfectly spicy. It came with channa which was delicious and very flavorful! Excellent value (only $7) and extremely tasty! For entrees, we ordered the Mirch dinner and the saag paneer. It was a lot of food! The Mirch dinner had a little bit of everything- which we love! It had 2 pieces of tandoori chicken, cauliflower and potato curry, butter chicken and lamb curry. Also accompanied with yogurt dip, sweet rice dessert, rice and naan bread. The tandoori chicken was the best we've had- it was extremely juicy and full of tandoori spice without being too salty. The lamb curry was excellent- the lamb didn't taste like game meat. The butter chicken we found was a tad too sweet. For only $20, it was excellent and enough for 2 people to share. Saag (spinach) paneer is our favourite vegetarian Indian dish and this place definitely did not disappoint. It was a hefty bowl of flavourful deliciousness. Not only were we stuffed, we were treated like VIPs. We were asked how the food was/if we needed anything at least 5 times and our water glasses were never empty. Excellent value, food and service! I really enjoyed the food we ordered. We got takeout for 15 at our house: 2 Chicken tikka, 2 butter chicken, 1 beef korma and 1 other beef curry. Rice comes separately and we also got garlic naan. It was delicious! I loved the tikka and butter chicken - really flavourful and perfectly seasoned. Didn't enjoy the beef dishes but I rarely eat beef. Some people didn't enjoy the food and said overall it wasn't they way they were used to eating Indian food. So I suppose if you're picky about your indian food maybe you wouldn't enjoy... not sure. Service was nice too. The owner helped us to our car with the order - not required of him and not something you often see in my experience with takeout food. I couldn't take pics because it was all gone too fast. But it was great and I highly recommend! read more

Stopped by the Afghan Cuisine and they were closed. I decided to buy food from Mirch Masala. Ordered a lamb biryani to take away. The portions were good but the masala of the biryani was not traditional - it was absolutely dry and all of the rice was covered with the same colour spice which was hot and not tasty. There was no raita to go with it either. The salad was horrible - chunks of lettuce and thick slices of raw onion. Does not even sound like a salad to me as there was no tomato or lime to go with it. Will not visit again. The owner of Afghan Cuisine called over his chef and we ordered lamb shanks from them and it was absolutely delicious! read more

Our main complaint would be the servers. It's like they are being forced to work ... No smiles or anything either. One of the ladies told us "give me the plates" with no 'please' or anything. They kept on clearing plates off when we were eating - one tray still had some rice but she was in a rush to take everything. The food was good - but with the service we wouldn't come again. This popped up as one of the top rated Indian restos in Surrey/North Delta so we decide to stop in on our way back from the US. Great find - I had the $9.95 combo which is a great deal for naan, rice, tandoori chicken, some curried veggies and my choice of a lamb curry or butter chicken. The naan is a little plain for my taste (I like mine with a bit of butter) but light and fluffy. The tandoori chicken was excellent - great taste and moist on the inside! Ditto with the lamb curry - very flavorful. Hubby ordered a la carte and still ended up with butter chicken but in a larger portion... it's a nice dish, but theirs is the very tomatoey style sauce, so it's not one of my favorites. Nice texture though. Service could be improved - it's a little spotty at times. Lots of booth seating and it was funny to watch some Bollywood type MTV videos while eating! read more

Went over to Mirch Masala for lunch yesterday, and I have to say, it was hmmmmmm awright. It was a simple meal, ordered the basics of butter chicken and chicken biryani with some garlic nan, raita, mango shake and ras malai to round it all off. Firstly, the mango shake came in and I must say it was the one of the best mango shakes I've had. It was thick and fresh and oh so good! I'm thinking, now, if the shake is so good, the food can only be better! We got the rest of the food next (except the dessert) in, I kid you not, 10 mins of placing our order. Now I'm thinking "hmmmmm this isn't right, if the food is being prepared fresh , there's no way the butter chicken can be cooked this fast." I can understand about the biryani, which has to be made ahead of time, but the butter chicken? And you could taste it. You know a butter chicken is mediocre if you can taste the tomato in it. It should be a perfect blend of spice, tomato and creaminess. One should never overpower the other. This one was like eating cream of tomato soup. The Biryani rice was flavorful, but the rice was overcooked and soft. The garlic nan was really good in flavor as well, but half of it was burnt! Sheesh! The ras malai however was really nice and soft and creamy. Food - 2 Service - 4 - the waiter was attentive and refilled our glasses and napkins in a timely manner Ambiance - 3 Overall, I think I am going to go back, just because of all the great reviews it has on here, and try to order something else. Reading Gagan D.'s review of this place and her mentioning of this place getting her first 5-star review made me question my yelp evaluating philosophy. But then again it could easily just mean that I go to the right places and avoid the horrendous ones. I've been coming to this place for a couple of years now after some rave reviews from my coworkers and I have yet to be disappointed. Last night took a couple of buddies - we ordered non-veggie snack platter, lamb saag, chicken korma, eggplant bharta and tandoori platter along with butter and cheese naan. Everything was very good; the standout being the tandoori and the korma. I must say the saag wasn't quite the taste I had remembered from the previous visits. I do feel like I have an even higher standard when it comes to saag ever since tasting one made by a friend of mine's mom. Overall, highly recommended. It's kind of annoying because it's a bit of a hassel getting out here from Vancouver but it's well worth the trip. read more

I've lived in Delta for about 15 years on and off and always see this place on Scott Road..don't know how long it's been around..just one of those places u see around but never take the time to go in. So glad the waitress (the very patient waitress who explained different things on the menu to one of my girlfriends) pointed out the ALL DAY SPECIAL which was on this little menu on top of the table -obviously we were blind. So we got 3 all day specials plus a couple appies. Anyway..it's a pretty decent deal!! Just wish the size was bigger..but depending on your appetite, it might be perfect (my 2 friends were FULL off it). It's a good way to sample different things on the menu - I suggest this if it's your first time ;) For $9.99 you get butter chicken or lamb curry with rice, the daily veggie, 2 pieces tandoori chicken and a choice of roti or naan. I ordered the butter chicken and the veggie was cauliflower which I found surprisingly tasty. Indians sure know how to dress up their veggies!!! Butter chicken - too tomato-y for my taste!! These samosas I think are PERFECT in that they only have a touch of spice and a crispy skin..seems like they were straight up freshly baked..nawww they couldn't have been (are they!? intel people..let me know..cuz they are GOOD :)) So.for those who have a sensitive palette such as I but crave samosas...THESE are for u, my friend! I don't know and don't like the herbal green relish dip thing but the sweet and spicy plum dip is delicious. Both sauces come with the samosas. Service - attentive!! Maybe a bit TOO attentive. I like it if my server just checks on us like 2 - 3 times max ..It seems they came by at least 5 times and it seemed to be our main waitress..plus the busser/hostess girl.. I will be back for definitely more samosas and stuffed naans, tandoori chicken and to try out the other stuff they have on the menu. Oh yeah, in total with 15% grat. Loved the food here. We had a late lunch/early dinner so it was pretty empty. The decor and ambiance is classy. There were quite a few servers that time of day, so service was quick and attentive. My boyfriend and I shared the dinner combo and ordered more naan. We got to have a taste of different curries and it was enough for us to share that time of day. If i recall correctly it also came with dessert. It was so good that we found a Indian sweet shop and bought more Rasmalai. The prices are increased and food quantity/quality has gone down. The curries portion served is not sufficient for a small family of 4. They are using a doubled layer utensils which looks bigger from outside but actually the inner side is much smaller in capacity. Trying to fool customers but bad on the part of management. Is this my first 5 star review? No, but I don't hand out five star reviews easily, but MM deserves it! We ordered the Tandoori and Chicken curry plates. They comes with rice, yogurt, mint chutney and naan bread. Everything was fantastic, probably the best tandoori I have had in Vancouver (except the lamb kabobs were a bit tough). The portions are generous and the mint chutney was authentic and a nice touch (not the usual ho hum pickles). Highly recommended! read more

Solid East Indian fare. I tried the dinner combination "Mirchi Dinner." Staff was very accommodating and was willing to switch the lamb curry for another butter chicken. Butter chicken was amazing! More of a tomato flavour but very well rounded creamy taste with a hint of spiciness. Also, there was a decent amount of chicken. Naan was fluffy. Tandoori chicken was moist and flavourful. Price of the meal is about the same as similar dinner combinations at other restaurants in the area. Ambiance was alright. More of a lounge feel with the booth seating and dark coloured decor. Lighting was on the dim side. Very similar to other East Indian food establishments in the area (eg Bombay Se, Tasty Indian Bistro). Service was on the slow side. There seemed to be many take out orders that it took awhile to receive my food. Also, I was seated at a table that was not properly cleaned. I had to ask the server to clean my table. Server was a bit flat and did not smile. She did not checked up on me to refill my water. I had to flag her to get some attention. Seems like the restaurant could use some extra staff when it is busy. The food was good. However, I think I will try some of the other newly opened restaurants in the area before I venture back here. Extremely happy I did, was greeted as soon as I walked in the door. I asked if I could place an order to take out the server opened a menu and passed it to me. I've tried other places for take out and for some reason they aren't very interested in helping you, maybe because they don't think they will earn a tip ? The server stayed with me until I was ready to order and was very helpful with any questions Zi asked. After I paid for the order (yes I tipped) the waiter told me it would be about 15 or 20 minutes. I went outside to my truck to wait for my order to be prepared. After about 15 minutes there was a knock on my window. The waiter had brought my order out to me !!! Now that's service. I ordered Chicken Korma and if course Butter Chicken mild . Both dishes were very flavourful with the perfect mix of spices with just a hint of heat. My friends and I were looking for a random Indian place to eat near Surrey and stumbled upon this gem, as it's open later than most places in this area. It was also a good sign to see a lot of Indian people and families having dinner there. The restaurant is huge, and unless you go during the dinner rush, I doubt that you'll have a hard time getting seated. Ordered their dinner special and I tried to do a substitution as it's very chicken heavy, but wasn't allowed to (wasn't explicit on the menu). However, it was still tasty and it was nice to sample a few different dishes. My friends ordered the butter chicken and the coconut chicken and those were good too. Overall, their food had the right amount of spice and was comforting, and their service was friendly and speedy. read more

We just had a party for our 1 year old grand daughter and we ordered dinner from Mirch Masala which was a hit with every guest from various cultural backgrounds and nationalities. Every guest was curious to know where the food was ordered from. The packing, presentation was safe to carry in the car. They were so careful using sturdy containers to pack the food to avoid accidents. They are also very reasonable and have large quantities to ensure the number of people you ordered for were served well in proportion and you do not run short of food. read more

I was torn between giving this a 3 or a 4. So I went with my gut, a 3 it is. We got this for takeout. Ordered shahi paneer, chili paneer, naan, and roti. I always make my own rice. Anyway on to the important stuff. The Good! 1) Chili Paneer had good spice, I prefer spicier but was good for everyone else. It was also extremely fresh, the food and the flavours. 2) Naan- the fluffiest I have ever had. Seriously it was great. The Bad (boo hoo) 1) Shahi Paneer was meh. It is basically a vegetarian butter chicken. I found it kinda bland and missing something. 2) Roti was almost exactly like the naan. So a big fluffy roti. Don't get me wrong the naan was great but I like my roti flat. Overall I will stick with my go to place. We just thought we would see if there was a place that could do it better. Came back after many years. Interior looks very nice for the location. Server was very pleasant and came back multiple times to check if we needed anything. Ordered 3 vegetarian lunche specials. It comes with Rice, Naan, Chana Masala, Raita and you get to choose one currey. We ordered Dal Makhani, Paneer Butter Masala and Malai Kofta. The Dal and Malai Kofta were really good. The Paneer we found to be too sweet. The lunch specials are a great value at $10 each. We will definitely be going back. read more
