What a great find in old Saybrook! Stopped here for a quick work lunch break with my husband. We both got the gyro platter. Some of the best I've had in a long time flavors were on point. The platters also came with small Greek salads that had a nice big heaping of feta. It was quite tasty . Everything was fresh, and the service was quick and friendly. read more

My wife wanted to try Mirsina's for breakfast after walking by last year and eyeballing someone's pancakes, so we finally made it there this week. The restaurant is small and it was very busy. We ended up waiting about 10 minutes for a table, which is a good sign when eating out. Our waitress was a bit overwhelmed, so it took her a while to get to us. We weren't in a rush so not a big deal, although it might have been for some. Three of us total. One had a blueberry muffin. Second person had a pancake with walnuts and coffee, and I had a 3 egg omelet with veges that came with home fries and toast. I skipped the toast and added a side of corned beef hash. All were good...average I guess. My meal wasn't hot so guessing my overwhelmed waitress didn't get it out to us when she should have. The omelet was very good (better if hot), my home fries were a bit on the dry side. Corned beef hash was good, but I'm pretty sure not made from scratch (Canned?). I liked the friendliness of the staff, the place looked very clean, the food was ok, and the price was decent. I didn't like our food not being hot, home fries ahhhh, and no gluten free options. We probably wouldn't come back, but glad we tried it, and the locals seem to love it here.....3.5 stars read more

Although food in general is fantastic my Swiss cheese omelet has some issues. Lately the amount of cheese included in the omelet is extremely minimal. I sometimes feels if there is any. This has happened on my last three times I ordered the omelet. In the past it hasn't been that way. What is happening? Service is fast. Friendly staff. They are all in a hurry. Ordered take out - it was ok. Tried the steak omelet which was basic, the home fries were bland and tasteless. They put everything in styrofoam to go containers straight from the pan. The styrofoam was melted in places which is so toxic and I don't understand why restaurants still use this!!! I had to throw half my meal away. I will not be ordered from here again. read more

Its close to my job so i order it from time to time cuz limited lunch spots in the area. My orders are usually messed up in one way or another.: forget cheese i asked for as an example.. im not entirely picky and im understanding... so i dont let one mistake ruin an experience for me but im not kidding when i say i now expect something to be wrong with my order. Today, maybe it was my fault for not being more specific when ordering online, i wanred a tuna melt. So i went and customized the tuna sandwhich, selected their toasted option.. the cheese is not melted at all and the sandwhich is not warm, so i have cold shredded cheddar on my sandwhich. I don't understand how they would think someone would want that. next time ill be more specific, although even when i am specific stuff still gets missed. read more

This was a good Sunday morning to go Geocaching. It was very cold, but sunny AND there was a newly published cache down by the train station. This proved to be a tough one to find. After forty minutes of searching, we decided to take a break for breakfast and head over to Mirsina's...a place we have passed by a few times before. We arrived just before 10am. The place was full with a wait for a table...not a terrible wait at all. Nicely crowded and not uncomfortable, we decided to stay and wait our turn. I can't say we waited more than 15 minutes. Steve ordered the eggs Benedict and I had originally ordered a veggie omelette with pastrami but they had run out of pastrami. No biggie...I had the corned beef hash with scrambled eggs, home fries and fruit instead of toast. (GF bread is not available). Delicious. Served hot and quickly once we ordered. The hash was salty but not overly so...just do not add any salt. The home fries were large chunks of potato, nicely fried for a crunch on the outside and nice warm potato insides. The coffee is from Ashlawn. Totally cool. The only down side: we missed out on rice pudding. It should be ready by 1pm! Over all good experience. Well worth our brief wait!! read more

A small and cute eatery located right on Main Street, Mirsina's serves classic brunch options with a slight Greek twist. We're thrifty(cheap), loyal, independent, usually mate for life, and the older we get, tEggs Benedict the less inclined we are to make new friends. So when our kids are gone, our spouses die, or just leave; rather than getting "out there", we turn inward and just learn to cope with being lonely. We're a proud, maybe stubborn bunch, but, still just quietly lonely. And in, aptly named, OLD Saybrook, there's a fairly significant number of old men, made grumpy by life, and lonely by circumstance. And among the many things we miss, a smile, a kind greeting, or even just remembering our name, goes a very long way toward dropping the "grumpy", from grumpy old man. But a simple kindness is becoming rare these days. Most places to get a simple meal have been taken over by young excited entrepreneurs. Their dishes have catchy names, their servers memorize a script, and when they greet us, they might as well be talking through a drive-thru speaker. Fortunately, there's an exception. And like most exceptional places, the joy, the genuineness, and the caring, come trickling down straight out from the heart of the owner. Mirsina's is a nondescript little breakfast and lunch location on Main St. The location may be nondescript, but the owner and food are definitely not. The food is classic breakfast and lunch fare with the added bonus of perfectly prepared Greek American Specialties. Mirsina's Benedict variations are highly creative and her Hollandaise would rival a Michelin star chef's. Her sandwiches are generous, her bread homemade, and every dish has the signature of a staff that always does, just a little bit more. It was served with a generous amount of fresh fruit (I was offered a choice of bananas, blueberries and/or pineapple but have had other choices on previous visits).
