Parthiv who is the owner and Chef at Mishta, took our order and was very forthcoming and pleasant . When we arrived our order was ready for pick up . Our to go order included the following Mushroom kulcha with fresh locally sourced chestnuts mushrooms from Noble Farms- I was expecting a distinct mushroom flavor but it was just an average kulcha. Garlic naan - quite good Forgotten Tandoori roti - since this was forgotten to be included will provide my feedback hopefully next time Palak paneer - tasted avenge on the day we ordered but the left overs tasted better the next day . County chicken curry - too oily but tasted good . The truth is , the oil contributes to better taste . Litti chokha- was the best of the lot . Little had good blend of spices that enhanced the flavor while the Choka had bold flavors served room temperature Complimentary Jeera rice was a perfect accompaniment to mix the Curries and the Onion side salad combination enhanced the meal . The restaurant is a small place in as strip mall but has a good ambiance. Except the forgotten Tandoori Roti that we paid for and they acknowledged , but asked us to drive back 30 minutes to pick up , the food was good & satisfying. We went to Mishta with our cousins from Chicago and had an amazing time. The food was fresh and tasted delicious. This is a true farm to table Indian restaurant and the "farm to table" label is perfectly true. The food quality is fresh. The ambiance of Mishta is lovely and felt very royal. My cousin loved the Paneer Ke Sule and the lamb chops. The service was also on point. My water glass was never empty. The server made sure we had water at all times and he was very knowledgeable when we asked about the dishes. Looking forward to going again!! read more

We had the Crab Sukka, Duck Chettinand, Benares Ki Tamatar Ki Chaat, Nadru Gustaba (Lotus Root), Sunheri Nalli (Lamb Shank), Prawn Curry, Kasundi Salmon Tikka, Barrah Kebab (Lamb Chops) Standouts were the Crab Sukka, Lotus Root, Chaat and the Salmon for me but all were excellent. Excited about a farm to table desi concept we decided to give this place a try on a cold Friday afternoon, there were already a few folks in the restaurant. The interiors look plush and upscale, we were told by the chef its renowned fashion designer Sabyasachi's upholstery. We ordered lamb kebabs and crab sukkha, the crab sukkha was the star it came with two pooris or Indian flatbread. The lamb kebab was soft though a part of it felt undercooked. For main course we ordered laal maas, as the appetizer were already quite filling. At the end we had a special dessert prepared by the pastry chef who came to our table to explain the intricacies, overall food was good but service was extremely slow, with our lady forgetting what we ordered trying to manage multiple tables. The place seemed short staffed, though food felt fresh but the energy and oomph for a place like this is lacking. The chef was kind to come and speak to folks, he even told us his story! I hope this place continues to prosper as a fine dining place in the middle of hillsborough township can easily end up as any other Indian restaurant ! We are frequent customers to this restaurant. The chef continues to dazzle every time with his amazing culinary talent. We ordered takeout from Mishta today and were absolutely blown away! The chicken biryani was packed with authentic flavor and perfectly spiced, the paneer sule was tender and delicious, and the strawberry rhubarb chutney that came with it was deliciously tangy - such a unique and flavorful touch. The new beetroot kebab appetizer was also a standout - creative, vibrant, and so tasty- please make it a standard on the menu. You can tell every dish is made with care and top-quality ingredients. Mishta continues to impress us with its fresh, farm-to-table Indian cuisine - truly a local gem! Good & Ambiance was 5 star. Chef came out to greet us and check on our meal and everything was fresh and delicious. Plus, BYOB made everything a reasonably priced evening and great company. We also were not rushed out which often happens at restaurants as they try to turn tables. The only reason I am giving this a 4 is b/c there was one waitress who seemed overwhelmed. read more

The food is simply excellent and authentic. This is how a top notch nadru gustaba should taste like. It's authentic and delicious. The crab sukhkha took me back to Mangalore. Surprisingly, besides the decadence of the above dishes, a glowing dish was our humble and blue collar Litti Chokha. Raw eggplant bharta accompanied it. I had to order another one..... it was that good! Ambiance was cozy and nice. About the service......it is slow. They are just starting up. There are cycle time, people etc still likely needs to be figured out. The dishes are also made from scratch. Good takes a bit of time. I know this will get better with little time. But, I had a real good time at an Indian Restaurant which yanked me back to the taste of India. My whole family enjoyed all the food. .... And God knows they are not an easy to please bunch! We had an incredible dinner last night at Mishta! I usually don't write rec's on these sites but felt compelled to after this experience. Every dish we had was so delicious and with a unique flavor profile. Mishta is totally different from the other Indian restaurants around where everything blends together, and there is an overuse of cream and typical spices. If you want to avoid the lazy same-old same-old experience, go to Mishta! It's clear Chef Parthiv pours his heart and soul into his cooking, and the attention to detail to execute these amazing dishes across such a wide range of cuisines (many regions of India are represented creatively and with authenticity) is remarkable. Even a classic dish like butter chicken (truly brings me back to Old Delhi) with lacha paratha is delivered at another level in Chef Parthiv's hands. The crab sukka, bhara kabob (lamb chops), lamb shank, nadru gustaba (lotus root, paneer and several other ingredients) were also outstanding. Food is very important to me - and I have had the pleasure of enjoying many 'highly rated' (some overrated) and Michelin restaurants across the west coast, east coast, and Chicago. Trust me, Mishta is on the Mount Rushmore of Indian cuisine in the US (in my opinion slightly above Kebab aur Shebab in NYC, Rasika in DC, and Indienne in Chicago). You can't find dishes of this caliber anywhere - I've looked! Highly recommended to anyone who appreciates incredible, complex flavors in a stylish but welcoming environment. read more

Today we visited Mishta restaurant, and I must say, it was an incredibly disappointing experience. There was extreme delay in getting our food. We waited over 2 hours 45 mins after placing our order, with no updates from the staff. It felt like they completely forgot about us. When the food finally arrived, it didn't seem worth the wait at all. The dishes were very oily, with no salt, and the flavors didn't live up to the hype. They just have fancy names for the menu. We were only three people, yet our two appetizers took an hour to arrive. After that, we waited another 90 minutes for the main course. When it finally started coming out, they brought bread and only the chicken dish. The second vegetable dish arrived 25 minutes later, by which time our bread was cold and almost finished. The third vegetable dish, Baigan, didn't come out until 20 minutes after that. Their portion size is very small, just enough for one serving for two people. There was another group of 5 people, they canceled their 2 unserved dishes. But the manager/owner did not come out to say sorry to them. Even with us, the manager/owner left it to the waiter to fend off the situation till we asked to talk to them. While we've experienced delays in restaurants before, this was on a completely different level--something we had never encountered before. If you value your time and dining experience, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. There are plenty of other places that care about their customers and get the basics right. read more

I was a little apprehensive to try this place since we were celebrating a special occasion with our very special friends. But the food was just outstanding ! we tried many dishes lamb chops; aslam bhai chicken; crab sukaha to the bihari litti something; laal Maas n garlic naan; each dish was made to perfection! It is not one of the usual Indian restaurants that tastes the same -this is different and exceptional. the byob makes it easier on the pocket too. chef also came out and greets you warmly and the waiter was very knowledgeable as well. This restaurant is relatively new and being fans of Indian food, we have been looking forward to trying it. It is situated in a fairly nondescript strip mall in a residential neighborhood in Hillsborough, NJ but that's the only thing that might be considered "boring" about Mishta. Walking up to the front door it was immediately apparent this not your run-of-the-mill Indian restaurant with bright lights and flock wallpaper. The décor is very tasteful, verging on New York trendy (not a lot of that in Hillsborough) but in a sophisticated way with obvious care having been taken in the choice of furnishings and mood lighting. Right now, Mishta is not accepting walk-ins, so reservations are a necessity, and we were surprised to find the dining room filled to capacity (about 40 persons at a guess) except for our table for four which was ready for us at the appointed time. After a short wait we were warmly greeted by the charming chef-owner who showed us to our table. The overall atmosphere could only be described as "inviting" with diners cheerfully chatting with each other and with the equally charming waiter who seemed to be the only front of house staff member, although the chef-owner regularly appeared to assist with food delivery or just to check that everybody was happy. The next big surprise is the menu which is nothing like any other Indian menu we have seen and almost totally devoid of the usual offerings that can often look and taste remarkably similar. As often as the members of our party have eaten Indian food in several different countries, we almost had to forget everything we thought we knew about it and start a new gastronomic adventure at Mishta. As listed on the menu, each dish reflects the very different regional culinary styles and flavors of the huge subcontinent that is India. At first, we were a little confused as the "Starters" section of the menu is again very different to what most Indian restaurants offer and could be considered more a selection of small plates or a sort of Indian "tapas" menu. We selected two plates to share (the Chaat from Uttar Pradesh and the slow cooked duck from Tamil Nadu) between the four of us and found that to be quite adequate as a first course. The taste? I can only say "indescribable" but meant in a very good way as it's so hard to describe something that is literally like nothing you have ever eaten before. Suffice it to say the unique flavors of each dish really came through in a thoroughly delightful way. For the main event, two of us went conservative and selected the familiar-sounding butter chicken from Delhi while two went "off-piste" (in an Indian culinary sense) with one opting for the slow-cooked lamb shank from Uttar Pradesh and the other the marinated salmon tikka from West Bengal which is in the starter section. All the food was outstandingly good although I must say I now regret not being more adventurous with my main course selection as I can get butter chicken pretty much anywhere. Mishta describes itself as an "upscale dining experience" and based on our first visit it ticks all the boxes required to deserve that distinction. The prices are also very reasonable given the quality of the food and the portions quite enough to satisfy an average appetite. As mentioned earlier, Mishta is unlike any other Indian restaurant you have visited so if you have a craving for an onion bhaji and a vindaloo, this place is probably not going to work. Also, do be aware the food delivery time reflects the fact that each dish is prepared to order so if you are looking for a quick bite before a movie, you may well be frustrated. We will definitely be heading back to Mishta to continue our culinary adventure. If we can find another couple of people to come along, I would love to try the Bade Miyan Ki Raan (special order 4 days in advance - feeds six people) which is a whole leg of lamb marinated in 36 different spices for 24 hours then slow cooked for 4 hours.
