It was packed and had little room to move around all of the stands and shelves. My friend, with great fashion taste, had been raving about it so I thought there must be something different to this Diva-esh type shop. Apart from the classier look of the store, all shiny black apart from the white name logo, there were some good finds inside. When I say good finds I don't mean it's amazing, but it is a good shop to go if you desperately need a bag or some jewellery for a last minute occasion. What stuck out in the store was the number of designer rip-offs present. There was jewellery and a bag that looked very similar to a current McQueen. I'm sure this annoys a lot of people, but living on a student wage I'm really not going to say no to paying $30 to have my own, slightly tacky, rip-off of a designer bag. They are also not made to look exactly the same, so you won't feel like your purchase is anything like that Louis Vuitton your friend has from Bali.

I LOVE the feeling of the store, black walls and furnishings really make the brightly coloured accessories pop, and make the black, white and silver ones look all the more glamorous. There is a really cute range of wallets, however I also think if you bought any of them you would have the same wallet as 100 other girls in a 10km radius. Unfortunately a lot of the products were really cute, but not unique at all. My boyfriend was fascinated with the range of 'stuff' they have - a tiny working sewing machine to be exact. It is so tiny it is completely unpractical and could not sew anything bigger than a patch yet he kept fiddling with it to show me the wonders of the working machine. Small things amuse small minds. Having said this all of this, if I had a little more than $2 in my budget to spend on accessories I would definitely get my hands on some of the pretty goodness that's in there.

The thing that surprised me were the prices - super inexpensive and the bags (my current obsession) are not daggy at all. Many of them even look like leather - which they're not, but for btwn $29.95 and $59.95 who's complaining? The canvas totes are really cute also. There are some bright fashion colours(so you can do the block colour thing that's happening this season and plenty of standards and neutrals so you don't end up looking like a fashion victim tragedy. I found that a lot of accessories shops sell really tacky, cheap quality items in horribly bright colours. But not this one. The shop on Rundle Mall is not very big but has a great selection of bags, wallets, earrings and necklaces. The interior of the store is a bit questionable and I personally don't like the jewellery hanging on those shiny black stands (it hurts my eyes) but once you've gotten over that, you'll discover some pretty nice things. I especially love their bags, which come in decent colours such as beige, black, brown or white, and in many different sizes and shapes. The prices are very reasonable I think, ranging on average from between $30-$60. Rings, earrings and necklaces are sold at around 10 bucks each and you can find anything from very simple to more colourful and extravagant items. It's still fairly cheap quality (hence the prices) but definitely my first choice when it comes to that kind of shop.

Although this place doesn't really do much to distinguish itself from all the others in the shop window, what's on display looks quite nice. The shop assistant I talked to about a necklace was lovely and very helpful. When I mentioned that I was really after something a bit more understated but that it had to be white gold, she pulled out a few possible contenders, all of which looked pretty good and were competitively priced. But, then again, every other jeweller that I've visited along here has been pretty much the same. I'd be happy to buy here, but I think I can say that about any place at Rundle Mall.

When walking into this store, the lovely lady owner asked me if I'd ever been in there before, after I said no she went on to tell me about the store and their stock. The first thing she pointed out was that 98% of the items they had in stock, were French, and the other 2% are from somewhere else in the world. This impressed me straight away, what impressed me even more was that when she showed me a particular case filled of absolutely amazing jewellery items which I nearly shed a tear at their beauty, she told me that they were the only ones available in Australia. They were the only store that some French jewellers send their items too, increasing their beauty and awesomeness 100%. I fell in love. It's definitely a store with character, with some of the loveliest staff I have ever seen. This family business is very warm and welcoming and just stunning. What's better? For beautiful and unique jeweller - it's actually not overly expensive. Some of the stuff can get up there, but there's always something you will find that you will love in a decent price range when it comes to jewellery. To get a good example of the prices you will be paying for an amazing store like this, have a look at the website, as they have an online shopping section. I was pleasantly surprised to find beautiful vintage dresses for forty bucks, Mink Pink shorts for twenty five, and some fantastic statement jewellery that was also well priced. When I picked up a long pair of shorts with blue paw prints all over them, I knew they were hipster pants and I had no business wearing them. But I had to try them on anyway. The lovely proprietor insisted very kindly that no, I was not too old to pull off these crazy bloomer shorts. I didn't end up buying them because I imagined the expression on my boyfriend's face if he saw them and I just don't think his heart could take it. I will definitely return to Azalia, the manager was lovely to talk to and has a passion for affordable vintage fashion, as well as a real love of Queen Street, the 'almost secret but not for much longer' up and coming area of Adelaide.

There are several pieces that will make anyone, regardless of their gender, make you say WOW! A word of warning, the bigger, shinier and better it looks, obviously the higher the price. The ones I was impressed with were simply out of my league. I'm talking about the 'Thomas Sabo' brand of jewellery on display in their front window! But here's the thing...you need to give The Charm Shop some time to soak in. They strategically place the best jewels in the front window, and I couldn't help myself but ask the shop assistant to take it out for a closer look - it's up to you, and how much you can afford. You can either just look around, or buy some of the more affordable pieces. How low can you go? How low....can you go? Your eyes will really enjoy looking through each window! If you're good, you'll find a certain window with the lowest prices, and I heard the shop assistant tell me what sounded like music to my ears: 10 DOLLARS. What? Say that again? 10 dollars for that?! Can that piece of jewellery really be priced that low?! So there you have it, The Charm Shop has some of the cutest and tiniest jewelry for under $11! This is a very interesting store that will suit all customers, no matter how much they got to spend! Another thing I really liked about this store was that they had jewellery made in Australia, but also tiny bits of jewellery imported from other countries i.e., USA, Canada, UK etc. It's also a very excellent place to go to if you're stuck for gift ideas for your female companion. You see I gave a BFF of mine a charm bracelet as a gift not long after we met. It was to make my life in gift deciding much easier and for her to have something that got bigger and better with time, as our friendship would. Ahhhh, how sentimental! So each birthday, Xmas, special event I buy her another charm for the bracelet. At Xmas I got a cute present charm, her cat died so I got a cat charm, etc. It was her 40th birthday so I wanted a 40th type charm, not just any one, to represent the milestones we have been through together. Not one anywhere. In the end a lovely helpful sales assistant made some suggestions, and one was this shop. I found exactly what I wanted. Funny I couldn't get one from anywhere and I found about 5 online. I rarely ever go into the city anymore so the fact you can also order online and get your item/s delivered is even better. You even get to choose what type of hook / clasp you want for your purchase. I always buy the same type so it means I can get any charm they sell and pick my own attachment, whereas most shops you can only pick from the ones with that attachment already on them.

They had some sale on at the time and the store was rather busy, but I still did not have to wait for ridiculous amounts of time. They were smart enough to have one staff member just getting stuff and putting it through, which seemed to make the wait minimal for how busy the shop was. The lady gave me a great deal and offered me their special of only spending $20 to get this weeks gift, which was a really nice necklace, but I declined as I just didn't need it. When you go into the shop, you see them working on strange machines at the back of the shop, from where they greet you with smiles. Every piece in the shop is unique - nothing is mass produced or reproduced. They make many pieces by customer request, and are happy to use your own designs or work with you to make a design that best suits you. This would be a beautiful way to have your wedding rings made, or a piece for a special occasion. They also do remodellings, and can make pieces from your own gold, so if you have a special piece that you want to turn into something else, you can keep the original material. Daughters Katrin and Michaela both design and make their own jewelry, which is quite different in style from each other's work as well as from their parents. There is so much to look at in this shop. Because of how it is made, most of the pieces have an almost medieval feel, which is so unique and interesting. They use a wide range of different stone and gems in their base materials, and it seems they could make anything you or they can conceive of.

It took me a few minutes of browsing and a short reflection on the store's title to realise how much more than a jewellery shop this place was. The stock ranges from unique to bizarre. It's refreshing and great to know that every piece belongs to itself. There aren't really any copies here, and certainly no mass-productions. I feel I should mention that just because the products aren't static, doesn't mean they're all strange and unusual. This is still stuff you'd want to wear or own. This isn't some sort of strange Gothic store or anything (though there are SOME goods that might make you think that). All told, this is a great shop and one I can guarantee I'll be returning to when I'm in need of a good birthday/anniversary present.
