Apparently they neglected to charge me for labor then tried to get me to pay it anyway. I told them exactly what my budget was, so they had no reason to go over it. It ended up being $100 under budget without labor, so no, I'm not going to pay it if you didn't put it in my estimate and tried to go over budget. I drove 30 minutes (which isn't terrible, I know) to get there. As I walk in, I smile to the guard to which I was promptly asked to leave. I asked why and was told no men were allowed. It was only for women. I asked to speak with Lyn. She comes out from the start with an attitude and says it's ladies only. "It's not my fault you can't read." I asked why, to which she replied " we have women changing in here and I don't want them feeling uncomfortable." I told her it was discriminatory and she said "thanks so much for telling me that" and shut the door. Now, I will start by saying I want any gender, sexual orientation, etc... to feel comfortable in any space. What I have an issue with is that she is turning away purchasing customers because something may happen. Are there no dressing rooms? Are the women just undressing in front of anyone? If that's so, there's a problem right there. If there are in fact dressing rooms, that is your job as the owner to make sure the customers are safe. As a gay, nonbinary individual, the last thing on my mind going to a sale is taking a peak at women, or anyone, for that matter. No where on the estate sale.net ad did It say no men were allowed. I saw the ladies only picture, but figured it was referring to only female clothing. If a trans woman were to come in would they be turned away just because they were born male? I'm assuming you keep it vague on the rules as to not get in trouble for discrimination. Lyn, I'm thinking because you sale high end goods that you feel you can treat others with disrespect and make up rules as you see fit. You are no better than those that are buying or selling to you. I left today feeling like I was dirty just because I wanted to buy a cute bag and jewelry. I'm sure you won't bother changing, but I encourage you to think about how you approach people. Maureen came to the house, developed a plan of attack, and then we began working together once a week on a different area. Because we've been in this house for a long time, items were mixed among different rooms. So, we set aside an unused bedroom for staging and sorting as we worked our way through. To avoid the "you threw out my stuff" syndrome, We texted grown kids with pictures of some of their things to find out whether or not they had any interest in keeping them. We even set aside a separate pile so my husband could salvage treasures before we hauled everything away. We worked together, sorting and packing keepsakes while we also made other useful items more readily accessible. This project brought me a sense of peace and control, something that was sorely lacking before.

I attended an estate sale and purchased a large, heavy mirror. I realized I wouldn't be able to…read morehelp carry it, so I asked a staff member if someone could assist. She told me yes and mentioned a tip for the person who helped. A gentleman then helped my husband carry the mirror down the stairs. At the top of the stairs, a woman who I believe is named Brittany Y. began following closely behind them on the staircase, which felt unnecessary and made an already difficult situation more stressful. Once downstairs, I handed a cash tip directly to the gentleman. At that point, Brittany took the money from his hand and immediately asked me if I had more to give. When I said "excuse me," she responded, "Not trying to be tacky, but can you give him more money?" I declined. Instead of leaving it there, she remained outside harassing me while my husband and I secured the mirror and continued to ask us for more money. During this time, she told me that "this is her business, and the employee only makes $15 an hour and she doesn't have insurance for them to move things". This was uncomfortable and inappropriate. Discussing an employee's wages and internal policies with a customer-- and especially asking for more money--is highly unprofessional. I did apologize just to end the interaction, but the situation should never have escalated this way. I was willing to tip for help, but being pressured repeatedly and having the money taken from the employee was unacceptable. While I appreciate the help from the gentleman, this experience left a very negative impression. If employees are not supposed to assist with moving items, Brittany could have said something before they started down the stairs.
