Smoked turkey, green beans, side salad
Mary D.

Read this as more of a 4.5 review. Went in on a Tuesday night and wasn't incredibly busy, although I know it gets busy during the week at lunchtime. Really fun selection of glass bottle hard to find sodas in the front. The cashier (I think his name is Alex) was friendly and attentive. No problems with our orders coming out incorrect. I ordered the smoked turkey with a side salad and the green beans. Their turkey is a good portion and moist, never had a dry bite in it. Peppery coating and great flavor. Their green beans came out piping hot. Side salad was a basic side salad. Their corn bread is really good though. Husband got a chopped brisket sandwich, mac and cheese and coleslaw. The slaw was much drier than expected. It's a great casual environment with good food but you do pay for the quality. It's fun to look around at all the patches to find cool ones from other cities. Very first responder and military friendly, and saw the manager making a problem right with another patron that ended in a good resolving handshake. Bonus half star for having Diet Dr Pepper on the soda machine.

3 meat plate double brisket and pulled pork with cornbread

Super friendly service, food came out quickly. The food was tender and delicious. Green beans were not sweet tasted as expected same with the slaw. I do like how the slaw was thinly slice and paired well with the bbq. There is 8 sauces to choose from on the table. Portions were great and customer service amazing. Whoever is running this place is doing amazing! Keep up the great work! Will return again in the future!

Military truck for Mission BBQ with American flags on the back. I love it. The American Way. Located in Skibo Marketplace.

I found Mission BBQ on Yelp and it did not let us down. The 4.4-star rating with 536 reviews (at the time of writing this) is spot-on. This place served some of the best barbecue we've had in the state and I believe it beats any place we've been to in the Triangle. Also, I had a blast taking in all the sights and sounds of the establishment. I'm not sure I've felt more patriotic dining at a restaurant than I did here. This is a chain with currently more than 130 locations, from Florida to Colorado. The company is based in Maryland. There are only four locations in North Carolina and for some reason, no locations in our other home state, Georgia (thought that was interesting). Anyway, yes - this chain location produced some really good barbecue. Are all Mission BBQ locations this good? The restaurant has a patriotic/military theme. They honor military, law enforcement, firefighters, and first responders. Of course, this theme fits perfectly with the military city of Fayetteville, home to Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg). During our visit, there were Mission BBQ branded military-style vehicles in the parking lot, one with American flags mounted to the back. Under the restaurant logo, the slogan read "The American Way." The side of the food truck said "Mobile Command Unit." Since this was my first time, I got a kick out of everything. It was the novelty of it. The inside of the restaurant was decorated with all sorts of memorabilia. Examples included helmets, bunker gear, football jerseys (e.g., Army, Navy), embroidered patches, and framed photos. There was a special wall remembering 9/11. For local flavor, our high-top table was decorated with old NC license plates. Music included "God Bless The U.S.A." (1984) by Lee Greenwood, "Born in the U.S.A." (1984) by Bruce Springsteen, and "Chicken Fried" (2008) by Zac Brown Band. Like most barbecue restaurants, Mission BBQ's setup is fast casual. The indoor dining room is fairly spacious and they have an uncovered outdoor patio too. Something I noticed when paying at the register was there was nothing to sign and no option to tip. I'm not used to that. You rarely see it these days. Here's what my wife and I got: Meat Market * 3-Meat Sampler ($19.34) - Brisket (1/4 lb) - Texas-inspired, oak-smoked - Pulled Pork (1/4 lb) - slow-smoked, hand-pulled - Jalapeno and Cheese Sausage (1/3 lb) Sides * Maggie's Mac-N-Cheese ($2.79) * Cold Slaw ($2.69) - crisp and creamy * Kickin' Collard Greens ($2.89) - seasonal Sweet * Banana Puddin' ($2.89) - seasonal The portion sizes and prices were reasonable. To give you a sense, we were both hungry and this filled us up for dinner. The total rang up to $33.05. I could easily see us paying $45+ at other barbecue joints for the same food. Everything was excellent. The brisket was cooked just right. It was juicy and tender. We were lucky. When placing our order, we were told there was only a half-pound of brisket left and we got half of it. This was on a Monday around 7:35pm. We were also lucky in that we got burnt ends, which is the richer, fattier, tastier part of brisket. Like the brisket, the pulled pork was moist and tender. It was delectable. The Jalapeno and Cheese Sausage was savory and flavorful. The casing had an appetizing bite to it. The meat wasn't too salty and texture-wise, we could discern the bits of cheese and jalapeno, which we enjoyed. When we visited, there were two sausage options. The other was the "Classic #41" (not sure why it's called that). There were seven bottles of barbecue sauce on the table, all different: KC Classic, South Carolina Zing, Tupelo Honey Heat, Texas Twang, Smoky Mountain, Memphis Belle, and special NC Vinegar. The latter was the only sauce that was not in a Mission BBQ branded bottle and in the Mission BBQ sauce caddy. The NC Vinegar looked like it was local and unique to this location. Maybe they have it at the other NC locations. We tried all the sauces. I liked them all. My wife thought the Smoky Mountain was too smoky. Our favorites were the NC Vinegar (great on the pork), Texas Twang (great on the brisket), and Tupelo Honey Heat (great on the sausage). The sides and dessert were terrific. The mac and cheese was made with elbow mac and bread crumbles. It was nice and cheesy. I liked the texture that the bread crumbs added. The "cold" slaw was more par for the course. It was mayo-based slaw and not the vinegar-based kind you often see in North Carolina, especially when you get out into this part of the state. The collard greens were very tasty. They were finely chopped and full of flavor. As for the banana pudding, I highly recommend it. It was pretty much an ideal classic banana pudding -- amazingly creamy, nicely layered, and not too sweet. My mouth waters just thinking about it. Service was a mixed bag. The cashier seemed a bit clueless and not the friendliest, but the lady bussing tables was the opposite, polite and on top of her game.

Pulled Pork, Brisket, Jalapeño Sausage Fries and Cornbread

From all the reviews. I expected more. I don't take posting less than four star reviews lightly. But for $27 I expected more. The food did come out fast and service was good. I had three meat plate. Sausage was good. But the pulled pork and brisket were dry. The pork didn't have any smoke flavor. On a positive note. If you like sweet cornbread? It was excellent. I'm not saying it was terrible. I have bad days too. Maybe this was one of theirs.

Rhonda M.

The food was good but not super delicious, the customer service was pleasant and they had several options for sides. I need to eat there once more to see if my experience would be worth raising my rating.

Great bbq. Friendly staff. With a nod to their military roots. Plus, a range of regional sauces to try. Highly recommend!

THEN Brooklyn came over and said that although her section was on the other side of the restaurant, she was happy to help, and to not hesitate to get her attention if we needed anything, or any refills. However, we never had to because she was on it!!! She has such a great personality, and works efficiently, yet without ever feeling rushed. She also gives her honest opinion about menu items, without ever criticizing anything in particular, but definitely won't steer you wrong or sound fake about it. She was able to take what had started out as a bad experience and turn the situation around. We had an absolute blast and the food was delicious. While I dinged the overall review, Brooklyn is awesome and she gets a full 5 stars!

There was a large selection of draft beer. I had the brisket basket with a sweet tea, caesar salad and mac&cheese as my sides. Most of the waitresses had nose rings or colored hair, which really isn't my thing but good on them. My waitress was very nice, but forgot I was there while taking to friends at the bar. Also their wifi went down while I was there so I had to pay cash. Again, this is exactly what I expected and I might return for the Monday night football game!

Wanted a good lunch before catching my flight back home and I came across this place…read more It had been a tough few days and I needed a drink. This place was just what I needed before leaving Fayetville. The bartender was so amazingly sweet & attentive. The place is clean, and has a low key, casual vibe. It was around lunch time when I arrived and took an empty seat at the bar. I was promptly greeted and when I asked for recommendations, the bartender was very knowledgeable and I LOVED her recommendation, the pomegranate cider. I sat and enjoyed my drink taking in the vibe and conversation from locals that joined the bar. Finally, I ordered some food: The Patriot Burger. I opted for chicken for the protein and nixed the cheese, because well, my body hates it. Yes! It was as delicious as it looks in the picture. It was accompanied by a good helping of fries that were served hot, hot, hot! If you're feeling down and need a good drink in a great place before you go on with your day, come here! If you're hankering for a good burger, a beer, great service, and great casual conversation with strangers, come here! Thanks Gastons Gang for raising a Texas Gals spirits! Cheers!

They've got a smaller selection of craft beer, but it's still delicious. I did a flight and tried their two lagers, the lavender ale and their porter. Porter was super light not really heavy at all. Has a small coffee finish. The lavender ale actually really surprised me. It was delicious but my favorite was by far that velvet blackberry lager. Just absolutely amazing. Their liberty lager is super light. I would compare it to the equivalent of maybe a Miller light. We did order food. My husband got the chicken wings. They come in an order of six and he got the lemon pepper rub. He really liked it. He said the rub was a little sparse on some of the wings, but overall it was good. I got the pepperoni, hot honey flatbread and really enjoyed it. The pepperoni is the nice cup of pepperoni that curls and the hot honey gives a nice balance with it. Overall, we enjoyed our experience. We sat at the bar and the bar was kind of a disaster. I'm guessing they must've just come off of the dinner rush because we didn't arrive until around 8 o'clock.

Normally I go straight for brisket or ribs, but they told me they're known for their burnt ends, so I decided to try the burnt ends plate. After I paid and sat down for a bit, they came back and told me they had run out of burnt ends. They offered to substitute another meat and refund the difference. I switched to brisket and told them not to worry about the refund. To their credit, they gave me whatever burnt ends they had left along with the brisket, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the meat itself was disappointing. At first glance, the brisket did not look promising. The slices were very lean with almost no visible fat, no smoke ring, no pink, just gray-brown throughout. The bark was minimal and patchy. It looked dry before I even took a bite, and it ate exactly how it looked. The meat was firm, tight-grained, and lacked moisture. I ended up having to drink water between bites and could only finish about half before taking the rest home. The burnt ends weren't much better. They were dark and sauced on the outside, but they also leaned dry instead of tender and juicy. Not the rich, sticky, melt-in-your-mouth burnt ends I was hoping for. I got baked beans and potato salad for sides. I'm not sure if they make them in-house or if they're premade, but they were decent. Not amazing, not bad. They just didn't make up for the meat. I really wanted to like this place, especially after they recommended the burnt ends so confidently. I appreciate that they tried to make it right when they ran out, and that was good customer service. But at the end of the day, barbecue lives and dies by the meat, and this just didn't deliver.
