The prices seemed very reasonable for what was served. I appreciate that some donations are going to serve firefighters or vets or something but their whole theme seemed a bit overdone. Awesome experience tonight. We came after a baseball game with 40 hungry athletes and with only an hour heads up the manager put out a buffet style spread for us. We had more than enough food and everything we had was awesome. In all, we had brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, mashed potatoes, string beans, and rolls. This was our first visit to this previously unknown to me chain. My overall impression is that whoever runs this place is very serious about running a first-class operation. The decor is well done for a BBQ joint, nice sturdy wood tables and a craftsman toolbox for a napkin dispenser! The staff were very friendly, interacting with our children, inviting them back in the kitchen to watch the smokers being loaded. Family-friendly is an understatement here. We ordered brisket , sausage , chicken and ribs, all of which were excellent. My baked beans side were especially good. Every time I come to mission bbq I am surprised anew. The food is always fantastic and the staff is amazingly welcoming. This time I got the 3 meat sampler platter which was enough to share for a moderate sized meal for two. On top of that the shift manager was so helpful and passionate about his job. While the ratings clearly indicate the food is wonderful, what they don't tell you is, at this location at least, gluten-free food and customer problems with food allergies are an extremely high concern. Yesterday my wife and I went to Mission in York PA to get some GF barbecue ribs. They sell excellent cornbread (GF is a non-issue for me) but it's not gluten-free. They accidentally included some of this cornbread in the box with the GF ribs & GF BBQ sauce. Even though the cornbread was wrapped in aluminum foil, they were concerned that there could have been some accidental cross-contamination issues, so they gave us the potentially contaminated ribs for free and made up another set of ribs, just to be certain all was ok in Celiac-ville. This mistake, if you could call it that, was both identified and caught entirely by the mission staff, not by us, but we are very very grateful that they did catch and correct it. Anyone with Celiacs who orders gluten free food from this mission barbecue site can rest easy and eat a good meal knowing the food is safe. I know there are other chain dining outfits with gluten-free menus, but that is not necessarily an assurance of GF food, usually due to non-dedicated cooking areas and other cross contamination problems, a major concern for severe Celiacs folks. For example, PF Changs at White Marsh MD has a gluten-free menu, but when we run an EZ Gluten GF test on it, it almost always tests positive, something that has never happened at Mission BBQ in York. read more

Everyone from the counter to the food pickup are very friendly and very helpful especially when being a newbie ordering. There's different meats, sides, sandwiches. There are 6 different sauces to slather on over the meat. Oh my. I ordered "bay be back" ribs with baked beans. The meat was so tender it fell off the bone and the beans were smokey without being dry or too sweet. My husband's brisket sandwich was juicy and full of meat. Lots of meats to choose from and pleasing sides. Portions are fairly generous and as has been said, the sauces do not disappoint. The staff is friendly and attentive, all smiles and eye contact. I've had their ribs, chicken, brisket, and the sirloin. The sirloin is easily my favorite. It's juicy, flavorful, and never overdone. This is really terrible BBQ. I should know better than to eat chain bbq and in Pennsylvania no less. There wasn't a single thing I liked about the food or this place. I'm irritated just thinking about it and hardly know where to start. Usually I start with some things I like but I've got nothing here except maybe the NC vinegar sauce and maybe the Memphis smokey sauce. I ordered 3 spare ribs and 1/2 pound pork with 2 sides and it comes with corn bread. The spare ribs were overcooked. They're dead, they taste dead. I didn't taste smoke or rub, I just tasted overcooked pork. It wasn't fresh, juicy and had no toothsomeness. Awful. The pulled pork had decent flavor but in order to make sure it wasn't served dry, they buried it in fat. It was way too rich. I couldn't finish it and it had a similar held and overcooked flavor to it. Old meat. I guess if you bury it in one of their sauces you won't notice. Most of the sauces were too spicy. BBQ is never spicy. They have lots of other meat choices so perhaps these are better executed. I'd give them one star but I've only eaten here once. In fact, I usually will hold off on a low ranked review until I can try it again but there wasn't anything about this meal or this place that I liked and I wouldn't come back. The sides were overdone. The beans didn't taste like beans and the green beans suffered the same fate. It's a really common mistake at BBQ places. Trying to hard with every dish and over adding to all of them so that you can't enjoy them altogether with the rest of your meal anymore. They don't complement every other thing on the menu. To avoid this, just make cowboy beans. I don't want them buried in molasses, chili powder and whatever you can thing of to dump in them until they don't taste like beans anymore. The green beans were disgusting. They didn't taste like bacon. Oh, and by the way, I don't want brisket in my beans either. Make one style of BBQ if you can figure out how to pull it off and serve one kind of sauce then marry the sides to complement the meal. In trying to make everyone happy you've failed. Finally, I don't like the politics and the waving of the American flag with my lunch. I don't want you to interrupt my lunch with my having to stand and listen to you sing the Star Spangled Banner. It's a restaurant. I did buy a $2 cup to benefit Wounded Warriors and support our troops but this was just too much. Eating lunch here was charity for sure. Charity for the owners and workers because I sure didn't get anything out of it. Yuck. I still feel sick. read more

Brisket was good I chose the moist over the lean. Sauces were original, I didn't love any of them but the were all pretty good. I ended up mixing the KC and the Tupelo. Service was quick. You order at the counter then they call your name. Reminds me of the big chain BBQ places I have been to around Dallas. Plenty of room for larger groups but it could be a hassle with everyone picking up there own food and not all eating at once. read more
