This is a historic theater located in the Historic Farish Street District. The Alamo is one of only…read morea few dual purpose theaters in the country. It has been around since 1942 and has played host to musical legends such as B.B. King, Nat King Cole and Dorothy Moore. It now operates as a Not-For-Profit theatre and is available for rent. The money gained from rentals is used to keep the theater going. It closed in 1983 and reopend in 1997 after a community restoration effort. The outside of the theater has a nostalgic look and you will see some of sidewalk plaques with the images of legends that performed there. I love the old school marquee that they have out front too. There is a decent amount of free street parking available within walking distance of the theater. The theater has recently hosted music concert, plays, talks, comedy shows and independent films. It is a very nice theater, especially considering its age. But the interior is not that old having been completely renovated in 1997. The theater can seat 524 people, including balcony seating. I will admit that I find the are that the theater is located in to be a bit sketchy, and others have questioned the security of the area. So, I will just say be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye out. Anyway, it is a wonderful place not only to host an event, but watch one as well. I highly recommend catching a show here. If I am in Jackson again, I hope to catch a comedy show there.

Thalia Mara Hall underwent a major renovation last year and it has really paid off. There are so many quality performances booked for 2016 that you will surly find something to your liking. The renovations were much needed and I am pleased that we have this facility to attract the great events and performances we have. I hope that you treat yourself to some of the fun things Jackson has to offer.

We bought tickets and were guaranteed in a certain section only to be given tickets in a completely different section on the far left. I'd recommend just buying your tickets on Ticketmaster and skip the crummy service the theater has outsourced and is receiving from their season ticket provider. I'd like to support the theater with season tickets but we will definitely skip next year if the theater continues to outsource to this vendor. The vendor they use is located in the Northeast and obviously doesn't realize that southerners expect honesty and courtesy nor do they realize Mississippi is the home of hospitality.

The centerpiece of the park is the controversial Andrew Jackson Statue which overlooks a waterfall. It is a nice and has some exceptional landscaping and gardening. The park is named after one of the city's long-time public work directors and it dates back to late 1800's. The garden has played host to many city events including Mayor inaugurations, press conferences, cocktail dinners and former Mayor memorials. It has brick paved walkways that go right through the park's foliage. The bricks are in desperate need of a good cleaning though. They are very dirty. There are also some cement benches situated around the park for visitors to sit and relax. Even though the garden is located downtown, it still has a peacefulness about it. I enjoyed my time at the Garden. It was a nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of the city. There is metered street parking in front on the park and along adjacent streets that are well in walking distance. You will also find some commercial parking lots in the area as well. You could bring some lunch and enjoy it in the garden. I would also recommend planning out additional stops at some of the other attractions in the area such ad City Hall and the Hinds County Veterans Memorial, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.

The tomato sauce was spicy, the pita bread underneath slightly crunchy. Two perfectly over easy eggs on top was a party in my mouth. My friend ordered a side of millionaire bacon. It was not very crispy. She said the regular bacon was more crispy and flavorful. I ordered the basic scrambled eggs, cheesy grits and andouille sausage platter. It was yummy and filling. The prices are reasonable. They also serve coffee, teas, sodas and boozy cocktails. Since it was brunch we ordered mimosas. There was a mix up and the server forgot to put in the appetizer, but Ana and the manager were extremely apologetic and made up for it. They have live music but sadly not on the day we were there. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, since the surface lot is shared between 3 restaurants. The company also owns and runs the restaurant next door called the Walk-in. It's super cute and open late night. Zee, the bartender made us a couple of Hugo spritz's- which were perfect. When in Jackson, this is a definite stop. They also serve po boys and other yummy sounding entrees. Reservations are recommended.
