I've been to quite a few State Welcome Centers over the years. Most are usually well maintained as it is the first impression of a state to a traveler. So where am I going with this? How does trash on ground, dead looking plants, really poor landscaping, playground Caution Taped off, dirty inside the facility, no soap in dispensers, hand blow dryer not very effective, and trash containers over flowing sound to you? It kind of made me want to turn around. If that was what they wanted, they did a great job! read more

What a lovely gem! This Welcome center may look a bit kitschy from outside what with those fake oil refineries and wooden logs, but honestly looks here are totally deceiving, cause this place has heart! Staffed by a lovely guide who gave us free postcards and also when she found out where we were going to, suggested that we stop by and get lunch at a vineyard along the interstate en route to St. Louis! (Brilliant idea!) Also thought the bathroom had a decent nos of stalls but really cool washbasin that was almost like a work of art with its curves reminiscent of water waves. Oh also when you walk in, check out the floor - it's a pattern of the Missouri state topography - pretty neat! The racks were all stocked with great tourist information, there was a lovely park for kids and the guys in the group went a little crazy with all the Pokeman catching. It seems there aren't many rest areas open anymore so take advantage when you can. The next rest area is 140 miles from this location if they are open. This Missouri Welcome Center has ample parking for cars, RV's and semis, a playground area, shaded picnic tables and clean restrooms. Baby changing area in both men and woman's restroom. The Center is staffed for questions and directions and you'll find soda and snack machine inside.. read more
