It's a shame that you can't go in but basically just have to look at it from the street. It's one of Adelaide's two old tram barns that still exist and was build in 1882. The fences aren't very high at all so you can see the little houses that they build inside at a later stage. The exterior is, apparently, unchanged though and looks rather cute.

It has been ages since I've actually been into the church, despite actually living in Adelaide…read more Actually, I really do appreciate how some of these churches leave the doors open to allow people to wander in and walk around, and this church is certainly no exception (though there is some volunteer sitting there ready to help people out, and to answer any questions). I wouldn't necessarily say that it is impressive, not compared to some churches that I've visited, but for a cathedral in Australia, it still isn't all that bad.

The Lion Gate is the entry way to China Town and consists of Paifang, or Chinese style gate guarded…read moreby two Shishi lions. The lions appear to have come from a standard mould and are by no means unique. They resemble somewhat the Guardian Lions at the National Palace Museum in Taipei although lacking in the ferocity department. The Paifang is intricate bright and inviting. I really like the Lion Gate, it serves as a great meeting place and colourful entry to the China Town strip.

Harts Mill, situated between St Vincent Street and Mundy St is a historic redbrick building, and a…read morewell known landmark in Port Adelaide. Recently earmarked for residential development, locals and the artistic community of Port Adelaide have for some time now been lobbying to save at least part of the iconic building.There is currently growing support to have a portion of the Mill converted into a community arts center which would be a big win, but financial incentives for the gentrification of the Harts Mill District are strong and it seems that before too long, the Mill may be no more than another set of apartment blocks. If you have any interest in the architectural history of South Australia it would be well worth heading down to Port Adelaide to check out the Mill while it still stands. It truly is a beautiful old building and it catches the afternoon light in an ethereal manner. There are an infinite number of nooks and crannies and imperfections for the eye to explore and it makes for a great setting for industrial landscape painting. I've been there on occasion to paint with some local artists and one could spend a life time exploring its aesthetic possibilities. It will be truly sad the day the Mill no longer stands.

Alexandra Avenue and Prescott Terrace are two beautiful tree lined streets in the eastern suburbs…read moreof Adelaide. Each possesses a wide grassy median strip, which act as small parks, complete with benches and rotundas. Large English Elms run down the centre of each avenue, planted as a memorial to those who fought and died during WWI. Each elm is equipped with a small plaque commemorating the name and regiment of a fallen soldier. The outer foot paths are lined with Oak trees which were planted subsequent to the Elms. Both the Elms and the Oaks which line these streets are heritage listed. At the intersection of the two avenues lies a memorial statue depicting a falling soldier. It is a very powerful and expressive statue in cast bronze. On Anzac day commemorative wreaths as traditionally placed at the foot of the statue.

It took a long time, a lot of dedicated people and a whole lot of money to get her back to Australia from Scotland. So, it's worth going to have a look. The ship was used to take the first colonist from England to South Australia. It could fit up to 300 people onboard and was one of the fastest ships to get you here. It was like a jet of ships. I wont tell you anymore of the history side of things, you can learn more about it when you go on the tour. It is a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be. Good headroom inside of the cabin areas as well. Especially in comparison to other ships I have been on. So, I think that passengers had it pretty good on this ship. What is truly amazing is looking at the construction of the ship. All the materials, design and hard work to make it such a solid structure. No wonder it lasted so long. Take note of what the tour guide tells you when s/he explains the materials and processes. What I really do want to say about The Clipper is that you have to admire the hard work of all of the volunteers in looking after this girl and restoring her. It is so important for us to learn about how Australia came to be what it is today. And this is just one part. It is truly a piece of history that I hope continues to survive for generations to admire and day dream about. What was it like travelling on this vessel to a new unknown land? One thing is for sure, the people that travelled on this boat were really brave!

When I was kid and I went to the beach at Glenelg we would invariably walk past the Rotunda on…read moreColley Reserve on our way. My brothers used to tease me everytime we were near by telling me a mean an old witch lived underneath the Rotunda and whatsmore she was after me! It took me years to overcome that fear. I have to admit now I'm a big girl and I've realised the witch probably wasn't real but I still stay clear of her 'front door' aka the opening to the right hand side of the stairs that's covered with galvanized iron. There are stairs leading down to something down there and I wonder what it is that's down there underneath the rotunda? Serious stuff now. The rotunda is state heritage listed and can be hired for weddings, baby namings and all kinds of private ceremonies. It actually sits in pride of place between Colley Reserve and The Beachouse and is surrounded by paving and Glenelg's famous Norfolk Pines. The pavers around the Rotunda are actually called the Bay Sheffield Walk and commemorate the names all of the winner of the Handicap footrace that's held each year on Colley Reserve. Lovingly restored by the Holdfast Bay Council and Commonwealth Government back in 2001, the work was done to commemorate the anniversary of Federation. It is simply one of the jewels in the crown at Glenelg beach. If you've never been there I suggest you go and just sit there watching the sunset for while - just be careful the witch doesn't put a spell on you!

The quite achiever! I think the mudbutt incident of '09 when the Torrens Lake drained was a cry…read morefor attention from the Weir! Like, "hey look at the good work I do! Half of the people in this town don't even know it's a lake..!" The Weir marks a point where the River Torrens starts to let its hair down a bit. Down stream the banks are a little unkempt, a little wilder and perhaps a little more fun. Surrounded by shady trails, the Weir is a nice starting point for a break from the city or suburbia. It's also a good pedestrian link, with a shiny new timber surface, between the north and south banks. The signage "No Bathing" seems unnecessary. And the original plaque reads 'these gates were opened 1929' acchumm, opened..? Granted the state gov is capable of building an 'open' weir... But, they mean shut! Keep it shut! Those shopping carts are below a couple of meters of water for a reason! Lets keep them there.

Without a doubt, Australia's most celebrated cricketer would have to be Donald Bradman. Known to…read moreall as 'The Don' there is a statue commemorating his sporting achievements just outside Adelaide Oval on Victor Richardson Road and it is simply one of most stunning statues I've seen in Adelaide. This larger than life bronze - it is actually a 2.5 metres - commemorates the sporting feats of a man who was viewed as a cult hero through his entire life and possibly will be forever more. I first noticed the statue one night as I was driving down Sir Edwin Smith Avenue from the opposite side of King William Road. The statue was perfectly lit from beneath and looked incredible in the evening light. I think I had the perfect viewing experience. Having visited the statue again, during the day and from a closer vantage point was a totally different experience. It was still a stunning piece of art but somehow different. Like the legend of the man, everything about the statue is oversized from Bradman's feet to his cricket bat. The artist is Robert Hannaford and depicts Bradman playing a shot. If you're a sports buff or you just appreciate good art, go and take a look but I suggest you go at night when viewing is at its best.

It depicts Sir Bradman performing his trade mark cover drive and quintessentially captures the movement and quality of Bradman's poise. The gaze of the work is strong, piercing almost, and adds to the vitality of the habit so well caught. The direction of Bradman's vision directs us up, so as to imagine the flight path of the ball he has just struck. The handling of the work is textural and loose. A lovely aged patina gives Hannaford's sculpture the air of antiquity adding credence to the eminence of Bradman's legend.

The suburbs under the auspices of The City of Unley are scattered with lots of pretty parks but…read morenone more idyllic than the Fern Avenue Community Garden. An initiative of the Council, this garden is owned by them but is maintained by local residents who run and look after the garden on a day to day basis. The concept of a community garden gives people who live is smaller properties, like a flat or townhouse, and don't have access to a lot of garden space, the opportunity to maintain their own garden. Given the current financial climate, the chance to grow your own fruit and veggies must appeal to any local resident as a way of helping make ends meet. Also on the Fern Avenue site is a building made from straw bales where courses are held for those interested in learning about all things garden like soil prep and composting.
