My son's love for music started with a 5-piece drum kit playing in a rock band. His band eventually parted ways and he struggled to find new peers to jam with. We luckily found Mix Major and my son was there for the school's first day. That first class in 2018 was a game changer. My son realized through music production, he could be his own band and much more! He traded his drum kit for a production setup and the rest is history. Years later he continues to learn, be challenged, and is just as excited to attend class like it was his 1st day. I started taking lessons with MixMajor over the pandemic and continued for around 4 years, until I left for college. In that time, thanks to the expert instruction of Mr. Jao, Mr. Aaron, Mr. Justin, and everyone else in the MixMajor group, music production quickly became one of my favorite creative outlets and completely reshaped my relation with music. The course is very well structured, starting with the basic building blocks of a song (instruments, arrangement, etc.) and then diving into more complex and specific topics (sound design, mixing & mastering, sampling, and more). Even better, upon finishing the basic curriculum, you start on your own projects with full creative freedom, and the instruction becomes personalized tips on how to perfect your ideas. Once I developed my own "sound," my MixMajor instructors helped me further fine-tune it by reccomending similiar artists, teaching me specific production tricks, and sharing their own samples and audio effects for me to use. Everyone in the class has their own distinct musical style, and they all recieve their own individual support from MixMajor instructors. From online classes to sharing sessions, both online and in-person, my experience with MixMajor has influeced how I listen to music, how I discuss music with other people, and even what I want to study in college. I have learned some invaluable lessons that I wouldn't have gotten anywhere else, and I am forever grateful to all the amazing instruction I have recieved. Mix Major has had an incredible impact on my child's development as both an artist and a young adult. Our child has really enjoyed Mix Major's DJ'ing/music production program! It started with a summer camp a few summers ago but since we are not local, we could not attend the regular weekday classes. It was great to see Eric be so adaptive during the pandemic and really grow his online platform to allow our child to now attend the weekly classes. There aren't too many silver linings from this pandemic but this is one of few. It's neat to see kids with similar music interests from all over the country now in these classes. Eric has also arranged, from time to time, extra workshops exposing the students to a variety of people in the music industry which gives the students a wider perspective of real life applications that are possible from these classes. Our child in general would not sit still long enough to appreciate regular musical instrument lessons but this program has helped to increase the interest in music. Our piano is getting more use now and there is a much higher level of excitement for orchestra class in middle school. Who know where this class can take our child, but the new appreciation for music and instruments makes the program well worth it. read more

Ally (Parent) My son Aidan has been with Mix Major for about a year, he has been learning classical piano and always interested to try different music programs. Mix Major's music production classes are definitely the ones he enjoyed the most. During my son's leisure time, he is always on the Ableton software trying different features he learned in the classes. Aidan's music production teacher at Mix Major, Mr. Jao, is the main reason he stayed on for the entire year. Mr. Jao's classes are very interactive, he always makes learning fun. He also customizes each students' learning plan so that they can work on their own projects offline. Aidan is usually quite shy, but for his Mix Major classes, he was always so proud to show case his unique productions with a large group of students in the music sharing sessions organized by Mr. Jao!! It is really amazing to see how kids of different ages enjoy creating and producing music they are proud of. My kid's entire experience with Mix Major has been very positive. I am so glad that I clicked on an ad for Mix-Major on my FB feed. : ) which is something that I rarely do. I have been looking for a music production class for my son, as he loves music and I found the perfect teacher. Eric is an amazing teacher, producer & musician and his enthusiasm and passion are carried down to his students. After my son's first class with Eric, he was hooked. He couldn't wait to tell me all about it and share what he was working on.  Usually, he would try to get on Minecraft to play with his friends, but he wanted to finish the assignment that night, even though he said its due next week.  He was very impressed with the other students' ability, on what they've accomplished. And more amazed that the students were actually younger than he was, and he's 11. Mr. Eric is awesome! My son first met him at a class that he taught for a local homeschool community. It was there that Eric ignited and inspired him to seek out as much knowledge that he could find on mixing recording his own music. After a year of my son continuing to mention Eric and his classes, I reached out to him to see what would be the best course of action to benefit my son and his continued growth. Eric spent time talking to me and communicating with us to get a solid understanding of where my son was and the areas he needed to grow in. We attended a week-long summer camp and my son we so happy to have the guidance of Eric to help teach him polishing touches to his music. Eric was very personable to both myself and my son. My daughter's journey with Mix Major started during the pandemic when we were looking for online music classes she can join. She instantly loved the classes because it showed her what's going on behind the songs/music she listens to and sings along with . Brianna has progressed a lot since her first lesson. She is able to create her own kind of music. Mr. Jao is an awesome teacher. His energy rubs on to his students that they want to keep on making music, effects, beats, instruments, sounds, and be creative. The structure of Mr. Jao's online lessons are to be commended. My son, age 9, loves mix major and has really taken to making his own music! He is enrolled in an ongoing weekly group lesson with mix major and he has done one week of camp. He's doing another week at the end of the month. Eric/Mr Jao is a great instructor and he is so positive and encouraging with all of the kids. When they share their music he is bopping his head to their tunes. The assistants he has are great teachers as well and help the kids navigate the software. Eric also teaches some music theory and technical terms to the kids. In the camp, they make albums and my son loves sharing his album with his friends. When we went swimming and picked up his friend the other day, we put on the album Will had made at mix major camp, and his friend said, "yeah! This is my kind of music!" Eric is an amazing educator, electronic musician, and video producer! He has been teaching my 11yo daughter for the past few months and she can already create pretty complex music on the computer and has been using her new skills to pull together some really nice videos, as well. Eric has a ton of experience, from a long career of DJ'ing, at the forefront of new technology where the DJ actually creates music during the show, travelling with Madonna on tour, creating music for Las Vegas shows, teaching camps and workshops, etc. If you have an aspiring music producer, you can't get a better, more experienced teacher. read more

This is my son's 3rd Year taking classes with Eric. Both him and his assistants have been most positive and encouraging towards the students, giving constructive comments and advice towards his music projects. My son took many years of piano and music theory and was also to put his music background to good use In his music production. He is currently a high school junior who is heavily involved in after-school clubs and sports, and we have had to reshuffle his lessons several times to accommodate his schedule and Eric has been most obliging to the changes. About two years ago, I signed my son up for Mix Major because he was curious about music production. By the end of his first month of lessons, my son created a beat with chords and a melody and he was completely hooked. Our son likes making music, so we signed him up for a summer camp at Mix Major. He loved it! The teaching of skills and interaction with other kids was great for him. He's now taking weekly classes, has created several songs, and because of what he's learned and the confidence it's given him he created an entire album of music. Coming from the classical music realm, I sat down in the seat at the computer thinking, "I'm going to be sooo lost during this workshop." I was COMPLETLEY wrong! I learned so much about the Abelton digital audio workstation software and easily created my own mix. I can't believe how fun and easy it was!!
