MIXT has become a weekly tradition for a few reasons: 1) They offer healthy and tasty salads and sandwiches 2) You can order your food ahead of time (as long as you don't have any special requests) and 3) Portions are generous. If you're in FiDi, this is one restaurant that you'll see every few blocks and there's always a line out the door at lunchtime. My go to items are the Rooster Sandwich and the Build Your Own Salad (which is great if you have dietary restrictions). The Rooster Sandwich comes with diced chicken breast, arugula, apple slices, shredded white cheddar, pesto, and garlic aioli on a soft torpedo roll with a side of MIXT greens. It's the perfect combination of sweet and savory. Plus, it's filling, yet still light. If you want a salad, I would recommend checking out their menu before, because there are a LOT of options and you order "Chipotle" style. The staff at this location were nice, quick, and helpful when we had a large order with special requests. Pre-ordered for a group lunch. Don't recommend the rainbow grain bowl. The carrots were dry and past their prime, and I'm pretty sure that the cheese was turning bad- unpleasant smell and taste. The lemon-oil dressing doesn't have anything to bind the two together so if you want to pour just a bit out, all you get is the oil floating on top. This is the second Mixt Greens I've visited. I've been to the other Sansome location numerous times. Every single time, the food has been fresh and amazing. The quality of the ingredients is impeccable. This Mixt Greens does not have outdoor seating. But it is incredibly close to my new office. The staff was not quite as perky as at the other Mixt Greens in the 400's on Sansome. But, then again, I did drop in at 2:59 when they close at 3:00 and they did not complain at all. They were not even rushing to close the doors. This time I had the: rooster 8.95 grilled chicken, sliced apple, fontina cheese, basil pesto, mixt greens, aïoli, on an herb slab Mmmmm, mmm, good. I am hopelessly and abashedly addicted to this place. I am in the process of trying every salad on the menu. The stand outs for me are the Cobb salad and the Cowboy. I always ask for mixed greens instead of butter lettuce because I believe the darker greens have more nutritional value and I hate to think that I'm eating a bunch of water doused in dressing. The portions are huge but I probably can eat it in one sitting. I however refrain from doing so and leave it in my office refrigerator for the next day--that way, I eliminate the guilt that comes from spending $14 on lunch when I should really be saving money and making my own salads at home. For some reason though, Mixt salads cannot be recreated at home. I could try, but it won't taste nearly as satisfying as forking over my money for some quality ingredients mixed by expert salad makers. Pro tip right here! This particular location always seems to be less busy than the other Mixt Greens spots nearby. That being said - their staff also seem to be less enthused and personable than their counterparts. I recommend figuring out the sweet spot of when to stop into this Mixt Greens. I have probably passed by this place a hundred times over the past few months. I remember all the times I've walked by, stared into the tinted windows, and didn't look back because of the ridiculously long lines that always stretched out the door. Me: Eat healthy=live long, be miserable and eat shitty food. I failed miserably. It took me twice as long to make seven. I'm a failure. Sadface. So far, I've had the Mixt Cobb, Madison, Dagwood, and Disco (sandwich). I have found myself happiest with the Cobb, feta instead of bleu, please. On days when they run out of butter lettuce-- which is any day you arrive after 1pm, I'll get me a Madison. Yummy truffled potatoes! The Dagwood, I don't like. Overpowering mushrooms and mushroom liquid and blegh. Too much, too much. I always, always grab a green tea Arnold Palmer as I chat with the friendly cashiers. They're friendly, and cool, and will remember you (along with whatever book you're reading). Probably not the ideal place for a sandwich, but still decent stuffs. Knew it was going to be good cuz as we got closer I kept seeing ppl leave with their clear plastic containers filled with leafy greens. There was a long line at lunchy time, but it moved surprisingly fast. I was deciding between the cobb and the fusion (need me some protein in my salad!). Opted for the fusion (mixt greens, red bell peppers, edamame, cucumbers, soba noodles, all lightly doused with sesame soy dressing)- lickety split the salad maker made me a very purty and colorful salad, topped it with several slices of ahi tuni & a slice of bread. Cucumber water (like at the spa) if you dine in. Good sized salad*, healthy and fresh ingredients. Me like this place! Have also had: Lotus salad with prawns ($12.95) - Not exciting.
