Well......went 2 days with no heater. I checked all kinds of things (yep single Mom who knows how to do stuff around the house) and nothing was working so my BF stepped in and said he would get a repair company out to my house (fyi...my BF lives 400 miles away so it isn't like he could fix it himself LOL) So he did a YELP search and called this company :) They said they would be here between "3 and 7" and they were here by 4!!! They had "estimated" approx $125 to $400 via phone to repair (OMG!!!) however, they got here and fixed the issue (a faulty wire) for less than $75.........the gentleman that came was Jeff and I did not get his workmates name........they were out of here in about a 1/2 hour and I now have a working heater!!! This review should be TEN stars. I just met an HVAC angel this week. His name is Matt. If you have an HVAC issue, call MJ Mechanical. (Matt has a whole team of angels, actually!) So I needed a second opinion on a busted furnace/AC after I was quoted around 5K to replace one. Any homeowner would get a second opinion, right? I called MJ Mechanical and Matt dropped everything to give me a ton of information, checked out my house, said there was only one thing wrong with the furnace, that it could be fixed the next day for a tiny fraction of replacement cost. Wow. I even got text messaged throughout the process... just incredible service and attention. They even sent me pictures! Matt and Felix were super awesome. Waking up in an ice cold house 5 days before Christmas was not something I had planned for. My son, who is currently in the military and usually handles these things for me was not able to be located. So, I had to deal with this problem alone. My solution to fixing things is to throw money at them. Repairman love me and typically I always get what I refer to as the "bimbo pricing". (I'm sure other women will know exactly what I'm talking about). I called MJ Mechanical based on other Yelp reviews I read, bypassing the company I have used in the past. Everything I read was absolutely true. They were professional, showed up on time, fixed my heater's problem and charged me a reasonable price. I was prepared to pay just about anything to get my heater fixed and I was very surprised and pleased at how fair the repair charges were. It is very rare that a company delivers on its promise. It was a HOT mid August day when our 16 year old AC died. It seemed impossible to get HVAC service to quickly come to our rescue, but fortunately another HVAC business suggested we call MJ Mechanical. We called on a Friday and a tech was at our door early Saturday morning. He investigated our unit and said he'd be able to have an estimate by Monday since everything would be closed for the weekend. We were contacted Monday and provided estimates on a new unit versus repairing our old unit. The estimate was factual, unbiased and allowed us to weigh the pros and cons of each option. We opted for a new unit and a MJ Mechanical crew showed up Tuesday morning and efficiently, professionally and quickly installed our new unit. It's working great and I highly recommend this company. Losing one's home AC, sitting in a 95 degree home, stressing a big purchase, and being suspicious can put one on edge, but the MJ Mechanical guys/gals had the patience to put up with this ole demanding grouch! The service was done few months ago, so this is delayed but the review is still true. Our air conditioner crapped out right in middle of the day, in middle of summer, and I think we made a phone call to this mechanic around 5:30 pm. He was out here to Rosamond, done with work and left by like 7:30 pm. We had few things replaced and cost about $350. I thought considering the time he came out and how efficient he was with the work, price was more than reasonable! I will certainly call him again should I need his service. read more

I will be calling MJ Mechanical for all my AC needs. No doubt about that. I called yesterday and was given an appointment for the next day (today) at noon. Jeff was our technician who showed up within the agreed timeframe (12pm-2pm). We let him know that our central AC fan sounded odd and there was no airflow coming out through the house vents. He immediately and accurately diagnosed the issue. The motor for the fan was bad. He had a new one in his truck and got it replaced in less than an hour. He didn't just get the job done but made sure all my questions were answered and made recommendations to make sure my unit runs appropriately. If you're in the AV, you don't call anyone else for your HVAC issues. These guys are top notch and continue to provide me with quality service. I was installing a new digital thermostat and was having issues getting my unit to power on. I called at 8pm on a Friday night and Matt picked up. I explained what was going on and he zeroed in on the issue in no time over the phone. Turns out, I blew a fuse in my furnace by neglecting to unplug the unit when I installed the new thermostat. He said to go grab a new 3A fuse from the auto parts store and I'd be good to go... He was 100% right and offered all of his advice over the phone, free of charge. Just stellar. The technician Kenny came out and quickly diagnosed what repairs would need to be done. Our MasterCool went out and our regular AC guy wasn't returning our calls so I finally went out on a limb after a few weeks and broke down and called someone else...MJ Mechanical, a local family owned company. Called them at 1:00 today, and they came out at 6 pm and fixed it...done! This is a reference related to commercial air conditioning. Just read the last sentence for a summary. I can not state how they are for residential. On day one, the technician replaced a good thermostat to "fix" an AC. Needless to say that within ten minutes, the air conditioner stopped working. I called to get my good thermostat back and have him come back. He came back and did something. This was all work on air conditioner number one. Air conditioner two was worked on the next day. It is CLAIMED by MJ that the 480v motor was installed wired as 120v by previous repair company (a year ago). Some how this took hours for the technician to realize that the blower motor was over heating. Then he installed a owner supplied blower motor on number two. My cost out the door was over $800 (including the cost of the good thermostat). Other air conditioning companies charge much less. One final note: they disconnected my fire alarm system (or something) so I now need to call out a commercial fire company to reinstall it. I bet that won't be cheap. The owner was quick to call me back on my complaint, but offers no remedies. He is also quick to call you back if you post a negative review. It is now 845 pm the same night and we have not been able to set the alarm. Found out just now that the roof hatch is broken and left wide open. I guess also it is normal to leave all the lights on in the electrical room. To summarize: pay over$800, get a good thermostat replaced, supply your own parts, get a broken roof hatch, turn off your own lights, get calls when you pay negative reviews, also you need to hire someone to come back and fix what they "bypassed" and you too can have 2 simple air-conditioning problems fixed. read more

Kenny the technician came out to quote a full replacement 30 year old Rheem 10 SEER unit, he indicated it should be pretty straight forward and I should expect a quote. After the weekend I called them to request my quote, they said they would get back to me. I received a message from their office that they would not be doing a quote because my job was too complicated. I called them back again to get clarification and they kept saying different things about why they wouldn't do the job and in the end said they're just not interested in doing the work. I found the whole situation strange. Three stars for the tech being nice, and their office staff being cordial... But what seemed to me to be a BS final decision and not wanting work makes me wonder about how they choose their jobs. read more

Scammers. This guys were trying to rip me off. A guy with a truck tattoo on one of his calfs showed up. He said the condenser fan motor and capacitor had to be replaced. It was replaced, when it was turned on and the air didn't feel cold he said it was because the air ducts needed to cool down. I have no experience with ac systems so I took his word for it. He left and the ac stayed on all night but it didn't feel like the house cold down at all. I came back a week later and turn the ac on but after 2 hours of running the temperate wasn't going down at all. I called them and they said someone would show up later that day or on Monday, no one should up on either day. I called on Tuesday and they said they would come Wednesday. The same guy showed up and said the capacitor was out, he replaced it but that did nothing. He then said the compressor wasn't working. By this time I started to think that this guy was trying to scam me or he didn't know what he was doing. I try to get answers from him but he literally shouted at me "Am not going to discuss this with you" and left. The next day they sent me an estimate for the repair. I did my own research online and even using my highest estimate they were overcharging me like $800 dollars. I decided to contact a different ac repair service. They should up later that day and told me there was no refrigerant in the system. They did all the work necessary to fix it and now my ac works great, they only charged me around $300 dollars 10 times less then what MJ Mechanical would have charged me to fix a compressor that wasn't even broken. These guys are great! Jeff just left our house, having replaced our R22 condenser for the downstairs zone. I had gotten an estimate from another company, from Saugus, just a week or so ago, and was stunned by the price they quoted me: $4,000!!! Crazy. MJ quoted us $1850. This was for virtually the same work. The first co was also going to replace our disconnect box, but Jeff said the only reason to do that is that the box does not have a dedicated fuse, which isn't really necessary since the breaker would trip in the case of a short. Jeff showed up the same day I called, on the early side of his time window, and once I approved the replacement, went right off to pick it up from a local supplier. Showed up at 2:15, had a new condenser before 5pm. read more

I called M-J Mechanical Heating owner Matt to take a look at my heater. I had another company look at the heater they said I should replace the heater . Parts are not available and the cost of new heater would be $1900.00. Jeff came out from M-J and did the trouble shooting and found the problem a wire fuse cost $85.00 total. This company seems to be incredibly honest and knowledgeable. I had an issue with my AC on a Friday night. I called around to various local companies and they wanted to charge a lot to even come out because it was after hours. I called MJ heating and AC and spoke to the owner Matt. He said he could come out that night or the following day, if needed. I explained my issue and he diagnosed the problem over the phone. He explained why the problem was likely occurring and instructed me on how to correct it. He also offered one other theory as to why my AC might not be working. He suggested that I try to some things on my own first to fix the AC before I spend my hard earned money. He said if these things did not work he would come out and fix it for me. His suggestions worked. I cant say enough about how much I appreciate him not trying to rip me off and helping me out. read more

I called on a Sunday after I realized that all my swamp cooler was doing was pushing 95 degree weather into my house. The man I spoke to was very friendly and scheduled an appointment for the next morning. He ended up calling me back a couple hours later informing me of a cancelation and asking if I would want him to head over that day. We had a vent disconnected and had another party come to fix it. We were given a quote to repair our 30+ old ducts. After getting a shock from the costs I asked around for recommendations. My father recommend MJ, and it takes a lot to impress him. They came out the next day and gave a quote of $1200 less! They started the next day and we are very happy with the results. A while back, Jeff came out to diagnose a problem. He concluded it was a complete new multi thousand dollar system that I needed. i needed time to think. As I pulled the fan off after he left, I saw a major wire that had burned off and disconnected. A quick new connector on that wire and many months later, still running like new. Ok, so after using MJ Mechanical for the past two years to service my AC, I ended up using them again to install a window unit swamp cooler. I had inquired with two other "AV's Best" companies, one couldn't even come out for an estimate for a week, and the other said they only install units if there was a pre-existing unit...WTF? So anyways, my house was LITERALLY 90 degrees, and MJ Mechanical came out THAT DAY after 7PM, recommended an excellent unit, picked it up, transported it to my house, and installed it same night. LITERALLY SAVED MY HOT SWEATY SELF. Within five minutes of the unit being turned on, my air temperature in the house dropped four degrees. Now almost a month later, the unit is functioning beautifully and I sometimes have to turn it off because it is COLD in my house, like 61 degrees when it's 100 outside. It's very hard finding an honest repair company, but these guys were great. My review is 2 months late, but necessary. They were on-time, clean, courteous and very professional. Most importantly, they were honest and affordable. My AC broke down and kept blowing fuses, they looked into it and changed my capacitors. Matt came, with another person (I dont remember his name) and they were very fast and informative.
