UPDATE: DO NOT USE MARTIN. We used Martin less than a year ago to replace our 75 ft fence. At the time of replacement of the fence, Martin gave us a warranty and stated if we had any issues he would happily return to handle it.....11 months later in Feb 2024 the fence could not withstand normal weather and our brand new 8k fence almost blew down. I immediately contacted Martin on February 5th. He delayed responding/ didn't respond for a month straight. he asked me to send photos numerous times. finally i begged him for a date to come fix it and on march 5th he gave me a date for April 27th. So now we are almost 3 months later from the initial request of repair. I gave him grace and understanding since he must be busy. Come April 26, he states he cannot come anymore due to car repair. once again we had to BEG him to give me a date to come repair. he states he will today (may3rd) and so i follow up with him in the morning asking for a confirmation if he will come. you can see his response. he even threatened me saying if we "talked crap" he would walk away!? then he had the nerve to not even show up. Martin DOES NOT respect anyone's time. His work FAILS. and he THREATENS you. DO NOT USE HIM. I need to move on to another company as I can't have this broken fence hanging for this long. Thank you for the time. Update. I'd no longer recommend. Within minutes of leaving a review, the "owner" finally replied back again. I guess I'm just "one of those guys." I get being busy, but communication is key. Had he just let me know he wouldn't make it at any of the multiple agreed upon times then this could have been avoided. This review is not of the services that Martin provides. Part of my shared fence blew down from a storm (18 feet) . I was able to text photos and get a different quote optioms with a couple hours. He was fairly priced compared to other fencers. He made it easy to coordinate the day of even though I left for work early and was gone all day. The fence repairs look better than I could have imagined. Once again, I am thankful for Yelp--Otherwise I'd never have found Martin's MM Fencing. Before discovering MM Fencing, I reached out to other fencing companies. The results included: no responses, delayed responses, poor followups, replies promised the next day but then no answer for 10 days, even an attempt (by a licensed, California contractor!) who got "attitude" when I questioned his request for a 50% deposit-- which differs from California state law requirements. Price estimates I received ranged from a few hundred $ more (some wanted to charge extra for hauling away old wood and vegetation) to one estimate nearly 3x as Martin's rstimate! The advantage of negatives is you really appreciate finding someone who is completely different, in the best way! Martin is a breath of fresh air! He patiently, quickly responded to my texts, answered numerous questions promptly (price, what fence would look like, what kind of cement would be used for posts, warranty period, type of redwood , etc. ). Unlike some people who get a condescending tone dealing with an older woman, he was always respectful. Twice, our extreme Calif stormy weather caused delay in the start date, due to delay in other clients' work, and he let me know well in advance. Martin and his two man crew arrived, and, just as he'd previously described, were done in three hours, replacing the old 25 foot section that had blown down in the storms. They were courteous, and efficient. They not only installed a beautiful sturdy fence, but also did thorough cleanup. Not even a small pile wood dust was left. Also, a tree overhangs the area that needed to be replaced and there was no damage to the branches . Martin works throughout the East Bay. I am very happy with their work. In regards to communication, they were very proactive and checked in constantly before the install day. He finished the job quickly but a few days later a plank already fell off and he also broke one of my sprinkler lines. Took him a while to come back and fix it. Well, they built a fence. I'll give them that. But they left mud all over our walkway and patio. Even worse is that built the fence with the pickets at the bottom!!! I was out of town and didn't see the fence for a couple of days. My wife didn't know what to look for. The builders unprofessional response, which included swearing, was that that's how these fences are built. The rest of the fences around my property are not built this way. I've been putting off having my fence replaced for a few years and it was about time to have 60 feet of fence replaced. I got on Yelp and requested a few quotes. Martin from MM Custom Fencing contacted me right of way. I received a few estimates from other places but Martin was very quick to respond and gave me the best quote. Martin asked me questions to find out exactly what I was looking for and even sent me different pictures. After I decided he was one of the most cost effective quotes and told me he could have it done next week, I spoke to my neighbor since we were splitting the cost and we decided to go with him. Fast forward to a week later and install day. I confirmed my appointment with Martin and we were still a go. I confirmed due to the recent rainy weather. Martin advised we were still a go. Martin texted me morning of and advised me about what time they would be arriving. He arrived just before 8:15 am and told me they would be done by 1pm. We went over exactly what was going to be done and even advised him of an area where I would be adding some concrete later on. Martin gave me some recommendations and later even provided me with some information for a cement/concrete installer. They started working removed the old fence, installed the new fence and hauled away the old fence. The fence was done around noon and they began to clean up. They were done with everything and left around 1pm. Martin was really easy to deal with and made the process really smooth. Martin even told me if there are any issues with the fence just give him a call and he would take care of it. Great work, great turn around time and great customer service. Martin and his crew did a great job replacing my fence after some of it collapsed after the recent storms The fence was covered with a thick growth of jasmine (In fact, that is what was holding the fence together). They removed and hauled all of it away and there was a lot. The overlapping board fence looks very nice and they were able to work around my large bushes and orange tree, which was a big concern for me. I would recommend Martin for any fence work. However, I would have been happier if he did an on-site inspection of the fence prior doing the work to verify my measurements prior to ordering materials, but it worked out fine. However, this seems the norm with fence contractors as they are very busy during the winter. read more
