Very few places make it right - the perfectly balanced blend of cake vs seafood/ kimchi... pan fried into a crispy outer crust and softer and flavorful on the inside. These are my must order items each and every time. The Galbi is also on point though I find it a bit pricey. ;) Soft tofu soup and noodles are all also consistently good. What misses the mark a bit for me is their ban chan... the kimchi is too salty and not fermented enough, and the fish cake is too thin and dough (my 2 favorite ban chan's).., but I'm not complaining about them as they are complementary with free refills. We initially wanted all-you-can-eat KBBQ, but Gen stopped their outdoor seating . Moa doesn't offer all you can eat, but their meat portions were generous and the prices were fair! We ordered the Spicy Pork Bulgogi to share which is served on a bed of grilled onions. It was delicious and just what we were craving. My husband got the Kimchi Dolsop Bibimbap. He loves the stone bowl dishes in Korean cuisine and I got the Spicy Udon Prawns which was very tasty! We also of course got banchan which was good. Service was prompt and friendly, but the restaurant was empty when we arrived on a Friday at 8 pm. One other couple came after we were seated, but they sat inside. There's two tables outside. We love this place! We've been coming here since it moved to this place (They used to be on Concord Blvd years ago). The management is new, but the food is still as good. The servings is plenty and the food is cooked really well. My favorite is the chicken but I've also tasted the short ribs and beef. My wife and I had been eyeing this place for a while. One of our favorite pho houses is next door. I have to say it did not disappoint. As usual when we go to a new place we over order. To start the banchan were great and they were quickly replenished. There was bean sprouts, broccoli, kimchi, cucumbers, seaweed and fish cake. I believe they change randomly so there might be some new ones out next dining experience. As for the entrees we ordered the japchae (a must), the kalbi ribs were super tender and flavorful and the soon tofu soup medium spice was delicious. The portions were generous and had some leftovers to take home. The staff was very friendly and the food came quickly. Though the there is nothing fancy about Moa the food and service make up for it and we will definitely be coming back for the above dishes and to try some new ones. read more

During the lockdown of 2020, Wifey had ordered take-out here a couple of times and I have been meaning to review them. She had ordered the same thing, which was the Samgyupsal (Broiled Pork Belly with Soy Bean Paste and Lettuce Wraps). For $25, it was a pretty good amount of meat and it really filled us up even without eating rice. I know, typical Asian here where everything has to be eaten with rice. But the quality of the meat and the delicious flavors really won us over. The pork belly also has the right amount of fat to balance everything, and remember that fat equals flavor. Don't shy away from it and live a little. Most of all, it was fun eating them and you can specialize each bite and add as many different components as you would like from the assorted banchan that accompanied the dish. You had different textures in every bite from the crispiness and crunchiness from the fresh lettuce wrap, to the perfectly broiled and tender pork belly, the garlic cloves, kimchi, pickled cucumbers, daikon, bean sprouts, tofu cake and jalapenos for a little kick. The soy bean paste ties it all together, but a little goes a long way since this is a salty, fermented condiment. I finally got a chance to visit the place a few weekends ago after spending the day at Martinez Marina. Although we didn't dine in, we ordered the same things and added Hae Mool Pae Jun (Korean Seafood Pancake) for take-out and take-home dining. Even though we waited to get home to eat them, they still held up pretty well and they retained the flavor and freshness of the dishes. The only thing that suffered was the Korean pancake (to no fault of theirs), but it was still delicious and filling nonetheless. Great service with outdoor dining. We decided to eat out as a family for the first time in a long time. At Moa, the owner kept the outdoor seating very clean and made sure our table got a good wipe down before we sat. The food itself is very well proportioned and flavorful. I think our favorite dish is the spicy pork followed by the Galbi. The King Fish is perfectly seasoned. The Jap chae itself has an interesting texture to it in that it has a thicker/chewier bite to it - if you like thicker noodles this is your dish. One dish i felt like it was off was the sautéed octopus, this dish was pretty tough - my guess here was that it was either overcooked or I waited too long to eat it. The ban chan provided has a good assortment with all the right variations in terms of tanginess and spice. Overall excellent meal and am excited to try their other dishes. read more

Warning, bad customer service! please read... Ordered a soondubu and Woo Guh Ji Kalbi Tang (beef soup with miso and cabbage). The Woo Guh Ji Kalbi Tang came out so watery and bland: majorly lacking beef flavor, umami, savory, dashida (korean beef base) or Anything. Purely like watered down doenjang (korean miso paste). We try using salt to help it out, but with no luck - salt can only go so far when you've gotten to the point of shaking it on every bite. Weak and monotone still. So we kindly mention to the Korean lady that unfortunately the dish is not as hoped and really lacking beef or savory flavor. And before I could finish my thoughts (and attempt to ask for a different dish or to simply take it off our bill), she takes it away and says she'll fix it. OK fine thank you, but she mentioned that she was going to add more Korean miso paste.. which is not what we were having issue with. The dish is brought back and tastes nearly the same. Still bland even with the half attempt at adding more miso. It's just not it. But we appreciate the gesture? We curiously note it's called "woo guh ji KALBI TANG" meaning it should be first and foremost beef soup. The lady somehow disagrees with no concern of what we're saying. Then walks away. =) We're somewhat in confusion while we struggle to accept a disappointing meal and eventually the other Latina waitress comes by to ask how everything is. At this point we're respectfully transparent that the soup is still not very good and that we don't feel like we should pay for this dish. What does she do? nervously laughs and walks away. LOL! denied! Mind you we were at NO point making a scene, raising our voices, or argumentative.. simply expressing our candid thoughts and wanting to find a fix. So for everyone's sake and to just get this damn awkward meal over with, we pay the bill and leave the food. Guess they would rather stiff a customer over one bad dish rather than taking a few moments to listen and offer a real solution and have a happy potential-repeat customer. How nice would it have been to think, "dang this place cares about their customer experience, even though it started off rocky, I'll give it another shot". Guess we'll just go back to Yaedam down the street or drive an extra few minutes to Oakland for 4- 5-star worthy food and experience. btw. soondubu was average/fine luckily. Came here on a whim and I am so glad that I did. I grew up going to Korean churches, and I've had my share of good Korean food, and this place probably has the best all around menu in the bay. The Kalbi was perfectly grilled with just the right amount of char. The teokpoeki (spicy rice cakes) were super fresh and had amazing texture. The samgyupsal (pork belly) was a little fatty, but so delicious, we couldn't get enough. I was super happy with the fact that they had omurice on the menu, and it was everything I could've asked for: comforting, and just executed to perfection. I will say that the service was cold... but nothing I'm not used to when I don't go to Korean restaurants with Korean friends. I can over look this any day in exchange for the food quality and flavor. Definitely coming back here and making it my go to Korean spot. read more

Was craving KBBQ (as always) and heard about this spot, so decided to try it. We ordered takeout at the restaurant and waited it out at the Big 5 in the same lot. By the time we came back to check on our order, there were sooo many people coming to pick up as well. Granted, it was a Saturday, so just be mindful of how busy they get (not too sure how it is on a weekday for pick-up though). Everyone had pretty big orders so we waited an extra 30 mins or so before our food was out. Well worth the wait! What we got: 1) Kalbi & Bulgoki - can't go wrong with the cuts of meat for any KBBQ meal. The kalbi was super tender and the bulgoki was juicy and flavorful. 5/5 for sure! 2) Japchae - another staple. You just have to get these noods, period. 5/5. 3) Korean Fried Shrimp - These were pretty standard butterfly deep fried shrimp. What really made the dish was the mayo based dipping sauce they paired with it. So, so good! 4/5. 4) Spicy Rice Cakes - more on the sweeter side, the tteok was cooked to perfection. I absolutely love the chewy texture! Great addition to the meal. 4/5. 5) Kimchi Jiggae - ok, not gonna lie but the spice on this def kicks you in the throat! I knew it was spicy, but was not expecting such a punch at the first sip of soup! Haha. I enjoyed it nonetheless. 4/5 The meal came with white rice and a side of ban chan. Strong 4.5 for Bay Area Korean food. Was in a Korean soup mood and this place always hits the spot. Fairly good banchan. Good service. Decided to treat myself and got the seabass. Actually reminded me a lot of an udon fish broth. Pretty good! Just not quite outstanding. I can't really tell the difference between fish, so The extra price tag wasn't worth it in my opinion. One of my favorite Korean BBQ places in this area, as there are quite a few Korean spots here. Moa Korean BBQ is kind of an interesting spot, and it has a long history previously of multiple restaurants opening, and then failing miserably. When Moa Korean BBQ came along, it certainly turned that completely around and into a much more successful, and tastier spot. You might see some reviews about Moa having new owners, and there's some sort of stigma tied to that when a restaurant changes hands, the previous owner actually sold it because she wanted to retire, so don't get too far ahead of yourself there with that mindset. The place was sold at its peak, so the new owners is not there because of that reason. The new owner is also friendly and nice. While that is the case, there are some things here and there that has changed slightly since the new owner had taken over (it's been more than a year now), but most of them are fairly small changes. There's a few banchan that isn't quite as good as they used to be with the previous owner, the japchae for example, but mostly everything else is still the same, such as the kimchi, bean sprout, broccoli, etc. When you are at the restaurant, if you ask for more, they will bring you more, so just keep that in mind when you run into one that you enjoy more than the others. The food here is still the same as before. Having been coming here fairly often since the new owners of Moa took it over, I have a good amount of experience now to gauge overall consistency, and for the most part, it's basically the same as before. The dakgui, the kalbi, the tofu pots, the pajeon, and other mainstay dishes haven't changed much. The pricing might be a tad higher than it used to be though, so this is one part that has changed, but not too much higher, and if anything, might be more due to the changing times than anything. Prior to that, the original Moa never had a price change, so I guess you can say it was time at some point. If you were to come here to eat during the evening, it will not be cheap. As with all Korean places, they are expensive. Unless you go to an AYCE KBBQ, then you are pretty much in for some pain in the wallet when the bill arrives. The portions are great here, and there is a difference between the lunch specials, and the dinner entrees. However, even with that accounted for, I personally can never really justify it half the time, and just come here during the lunch time for specials, but of course, only on weekdays now with the new owners. Moa Korean BBQ is a great place to go to if you are craving some delicious food from this cuisine. However, for those on a budget, keep in mind that lunch might be the better time to be here, rather than evening, when even the cheapest entrees are generally around the $20 mark. It might possibly make more sense to do this too when you are actually able to sit down, and enjoy the vast selection of refillable banchan they have available, which won't apply to takeout, or our current situation. read more

One of my favorite ingredients in this dolsot was the bean sprouts because it provided both a crunch and a refreshing taste to the dish, since the meat is salty. I recommend a dolsot to anyone who likes their dishes hot throughout their meal. I also recommend to wait a few minutes to let the rice fry at the bottom of the stone pot, to get a nice crunch for the dish! Overall, I would come here again. I said this because I enjoyed mostly side dishes from all other Koreans places I've hung out. This was the first time that I didn't get excited. Service was ok. This place is under new management (I'm not sure when that started) but the food is still amazing and fresh. I wish they still served soup for a starter, it was the best soup ever I would order a huge tub when I was sick. The appetizers are pretty pricey but what isn't these days. Ok so I see that there are lots of high ratings for this place. Maybe folks have ordered other dishes that put this place at the level, so I can only speak to what we had. First off, this is definitely just a neighborhood no-frills place, so there's not any kind of ambiance or attention to decor or presentation. They aren't even making attempts to make it a little nice. Some of the other establishments in the same strip mall have made efforts in the decor department, but not this place. There was no AC. There was a large fan turned on. But even the fan wasn't keeping the flies away from the doorway. Banchan was not very generous. I've been to other Korean places that offered more variety and more of it. I got the dolsot bibimbap and it was meh. Just ok. Not bad. Not great. My folks got the kalbi. They didn't like it much. Positives: Portions are generous. They make really good Sprite (that comment is from my dad). Two stars because the food was ok but not great. Nothing memorable here. Came out on a sizzling hot plate, it smelled amazing(and so did my clothes afterwards)! The army stew was way too salty for me, but most likely because it had spam, sausage, beans, and kimchi with ramen noodles. The beans threw me off.
