Dr Gratz has been my PCP for years at this point. I met him while he was working for a larger office in SF, and luckily was able to continue that care after he moved on from there. I should back up a little bit and explain that this larger office, CarePracticeSF, was itself a very solid practice. It was not "large" by any contemporary standard, and I was close with all of the doctors there, including the owner. As a health care professional myself, I always knew that I could count on these people as caretakers and as colleagues. I have a tremendous amount of respect for this brick and mortar practice, and could have been very happy staying there. However, out of all of the PCPs I had while there... maybe 7 total, I always felt that Dr. Gratz was the most outstanding. It's EXTREMELY difficult to be health care professional, especially a PCP, and give the level of care, with the attention to detail, that Adam is inclined to provide. His demeanor is forthcoming, genuine, caring, and extremely down to earth. While under his care, I brought up the issue of migraines/headaches. Unlike any PCP before him, he took that as an invitation to pursue this matter until any and every etiology and treatment possibility had been pursued and exhausted. As a result, these headaches, for the first time in my 40 year old life, are being effectively managed. Dr Gratz does not "deal with" insurances, and being a Dr. I can completely understand why. I commend him for the steps he has taken to enable him to practice the level of care he deems necessary. Sidestepping the red tape and load of managed care is simple one of these steps. I totally forgot to mention that it was for both me and my fiancé but he didn't mind at all. We just spoke to him separately. He took his time explaining everything about my situation. It was the first time I have felt listened to by a physician since my Pediatrician. He was professional, thorough , non-judgmental , intelligent, understanding and hella chill. I honestly feel super blessed to have found him. He was able to help me with everything I needed and discussed future solutions for things I needed but never talk about. There is no confusion, Dr. Gratz. This review is about you. I needed an osteopathic evaluation and treatment and based on the glowing Yelp recommendations I scheduled a house call with Dr. Gratz - that was a huge mistake. I don't believe that any of his Yelp recommendations are reflecting his skill as an osteopath. Dr. Gratz performed a maneuver on my hip that was totally uncalled for and dangerous. Several doctors I talked to after his "treatment" were appalled at what he did. He really harmed me. After his visit I was in terrible suffering and eventually had to seek urgent medical help. I reached out to him a couple of days prior to going to ER and spending an entire day in the hospital, in hope that he would be able to correct what he did, but he refused to see me until I get a new mattress?? and he sent me recommendations of other physicians that were not pertinent to my condition at all. There were big problems created by his extremely harsh and uncalled for action. He knew and admitted himself that it was risky after he finished and he said it with a smile. He didn't tell me in advance what he was about to do, otherwise I would've never agreed to that. I don't want to go into details of that session with him and his behavior as a person and a doctor during the appointment and afterwards, just want to say that he was unprofessional and totally lacking compassion. I spent thousands of dollars on ambulance rides trying to get help - a very good chiropractor told me "the doctor jammed your SI joint that was already problematic". After Dr. Gratz's session it took me forever to get a superbill from him (which we agreed he would send me) for my insurance reimbursement. Being so sick I didn't have a look at what he sent for a while - I am bedridden and do not have a decent computer in bed or the capacity to print things out. It turned out that his paperwork didn't contain his name, title, tax ID and address, the amount was incorrect, so basically absolutely useless and fraudulent. I asked him to resend it and still haven't gotten it - it's been a year. I was dealing with very serious mental health and medication issues that were causing near hospitalization. Dr Gratz is the "real deal." He is super-insightful, honest, and straight-forward. Hard to find these qualities in any person let alone a doctor. He really made me face some hard truths that I had been minimizing and rationalized to a degree where what I thought was best was actually a bad path to follow.
