...the fact that the name of this antik/trödelmarkt is a punny jab at the massive KaDeWe (Kaufhaus…read moredes Westens) should tip you off to that this place has a sense of humor... *this* kdw, however, is polar opposite to the cushy mega-shopping bonanza at Wittenbergplatz - you could argue this spot is an UNcomfortable shopping experience since it's not heated in the winter, dusty, crammed-full (although without feeling cluttered) and not really near any other destination (...it's actually easy to reach on the 200 bus from Alex). this is to me, believe it or not, all part of its charm - the owners have a fantastic eye for 'finds', which means that you can really be rewarded for taking your time and just wandering around the big one-roomed shop. they have a coffee-counter of sorts (where the selection of munchies offered seems to be at the daily whim of the staff) that encourages just this type of aimlessness - grab a drink and poke around. to my eye, kdw really shines on 60s+70s furniture+housewares and former GDR items. among others, i picked up a wonderfully warm authentic wool military jacket, a multi-headed 60s floor lamp, and a mosaic coffeetable, that still has its original obligatory Warenbezeichnung affixed underneath. like all second-hand markts, you won't always find what you want, but if you pop in every once in awhile, you are bound to find something really unique AND well-priced. take the time to get to know the owners, who are affable and always looking for good conversation, and they'll be happy to cut you a deal, especially if you buy a few things or drop in regularly. i discovered kdw when i first arrived and was moving out of a home-stay nearby and into my new (and *completely* empty) apartment. since i bought a bunch of things all at once, not only did they give me a killer discount, but they offered to drive all the purchased items AND all my belongings to my new apartment. that's the kind of place i'm happy to trek back to buy from.

I was looking for new furniture after moving to my new flat in town. I must admit, I am definitely…read morenot the most easy customer when it comes to the choice of my interior. I have found this store online and was immediately assured that I would be able to find something suitable for myself. Warehouse Berlin Store has a large choice of stylish, modern as well as classical furniture. I loved the playful and maiden-like make-up table they had in store. I bought it straight away and got it delivered on the same day. It fits perfectly into my Altbau . Generally, all their furniture is perfect for creating a comfy atmosphere in my flat. Additionally,I did not feel like having a regular couch for my guests. The solution was as so called Ottomane , an ottoman, which they had in many colors and designs. I got a green one, to fit the dark wooden board flooring in my flat. I had to order it, as I wanted to have it custom made it with a special material I have chosen. What else can I say Friendly staff, very patient and courteous. I am going to drop by from time to time, to see whats new. Consider buying a golden mirror for my hall

I moved into a cute little apartment in Prenzlauer Berg for a 2 month stint…read more I pondered where to get all the items one needs for two months. Cleaning supplies. Cutting board. Hangers. Clothing storage. Towels. Bedding. Kitchen utensils. Random hardware items. Some mailing envelopes for souvenirs. Laundry basket. Dish cloths.Tape. Scissors. Laundry drying rack....oh, so many things! First thought: IKEA. Second thought: I don't have a car. Third thought: Amazon. Fourth thought: Can't receive mail. Then on a morning walk I happened by this spot, Haushalt Waren...which contained EVERYTHING I needed and more. Besides the extensive list above, they also have a fairly good selection of gardening needs, kitchen appliances (coffee makers, etc), hardware items for small projects, and even some fun umbrella chairs for the park! Of course you'll pay a bit more than a big box store...but couldn't put a price on the convenience factor, not needing a car, being close, and being in and out in under 20 minutes. Cash only (from what I can tell). Very well organized and orderly.

The…read moresour-faced woman sitting at the desk of this empty shop didn't have the decency to lift her head to answer any questions we had. We were obviously interrupting her from texting or whatever she was doing but as we weren't even given the politeness of eye contact (let alone a smile or offer of help). We exited immediately, leaving her alone in the empty shop. We walked up Schönhauser Allee (nr. 91), to another pillow/mattress shop on the corner of Wisbeyerstr. called MFO Matratzen. There we were welcomed with a friendly smile and we bought the items we set out to buy. I sincerely hope this unfriendly and rude service at Matratzen Concord does not run throughout all their stores as no amount of balloons outside their shops will tempt me to shop there again (and I have several rental apartments).!!! Your loss Matratzen Concord!
