This Healesville cafe, settled off the road by a motorcycles repair shop is one of a by-gone era, and reminds me of something outta a beat generation novel. A scene could be written in here, or at least substituted. Wombat's Chai use mainly organic or locally sourced produce, a lot of which you can take home with you. It's also run by kind folks who want to run a home style cafe, and that's it exactly. home style. No polished tiles and feature walls, no interior decorated design graduates' vision expressed as a " Immersible and interactive modern art and cultural dining experience, expressed by maximsation of natural lighting, and geometric patterns utilised to enhance the panoramic absorbion of natural views" or something like that. Just a simple old fashioned cafe in an original space, just being what it is; good food to it's masses without being pretentious. Genuine service on a home front and nothing more. Definitely worth the walk to the end of the Main Street, despite being a little tucked away this place is a gem and holds a big place in my heart. Prices were a tad steep though, which is why I wasn't too impressed with the presentation but that said, I did get full. Still, nothing to write home about. Decent feed, slightly overpriced. Wouldn't avoid but wouldn't recommend. Good if the other places are closed.

It's probably because of the huge signage that people recognize. Plus, in coming here, you know you'll get good service and food at a good price. For savoury, I usually go for the spinach and ricotta roll. I have tried their chicken pie, like most of their pies, they all have that standard crumbley crust. And then you get to the sweets. Their is no shortage of what's available to pick from. The Dame Edna with cream with subtle and light enough. The vanilla slices are massive, the biscuits are always a huge hit. It seems most of the Beechworth Bakeries offer bottomless coffee and tea. The Healesville café is a huge space that people are always bustling in and out of. And with most bakeries, you could feed a family and not break the bank, but still leave satisfied.
