I just paid $47 (without tip) for a mini 9" pizza with 2 (minimal) toppings, a 11" thick crust with 2 (minimal) toppings and 2 small side salads (bagged lettuce with yet again, minimal toppings). The pizza was sub-par and literally had no flavor! I am shocked that pizza dough is this pricey!!! I could have gone to Grimaldi's for a REAL NEW YORK STYLE PIE with 2 toppings for $32 bucks! We just had one of the worst customer service experiences we've ever encountered at this place. We've been regulars here, but after tonight, never again. The woman working decided to take out her bad mood on us for no reason. When we politely asked her to stop, she completely lost control yelling at us, refusing to make the pizza the way we ordered it, and then escalating the situation by calling the police. When officers arrived, they immediately saw we were doing nothing wrong just sitting and eating and told backup to stand down. That says everything. Her behavior was so extreme that other staff members apologized for her actions right in front of us. We left peacefully, but the fact that it ever got that far is beyond unacceptable. If you're expecting decent service, flexibility with something as simple as extra sauce, or the ability to give feedback without being screamed at, this is not the place. Do not recommend, had an experience out of a movie with a super hostile employee who apparently was having a very bad day...so much so that the evening ended with the police showing up. This gal who was acting as the lead was incredibly rude from the moment we arrived. Throwing toppings on without asking how much and not offering others. Explaining how " she's worked there a long time and this is the standard amount" when we said it was way too much pineapple. The whole experience was very uncomfortable having to try to communicate with someone that is clearly in a victim mentality. At any rate the worst customer service, will be telling everyone to avoid this location. As a rule, I loathe chain eateries and especially those with order counters. As exception, I love MOD which is a chain with that ordering set up. As a rule, I dislike flash fired pizza joints that offer 'all the toppings you want' formats. (I'm talkin' to you Blaze.) As exception I love MOD which has this very format. I'm a MOD fan based on multiple good experiences with MOD outlet in Oregon and my first at this newly opened (roughly mid November) location near Boise Towne Square Mall reinforced why that is so. That this MOD was "lightly customered" on a weekday at the height of lunch time suggests many mall and Nordstrom Rack shoppers may be unaware this is now open since both are nearby. But it is. So here you are. Now you can go. THE DRILL: Menu for pizzas (salads too) is posted on the wall if you want to choose one of their recommended creations. Or you can choose to create your own with any toppings in any amount as you talk to the nice people behind the service counter and they move you on down the line from crust type to sauce type to cheeses to toppers. Pay at the end. Stand aside or take a seat. They'll call your name at the pick up counter when your eats are ready. (You can also order online and pick up at this same counter.) Bus your own. EATS & PRICES: Pizzas in small (feeds 1), MOD (11" and for us easily feeds two) and a larger one. Crust in standard thin, thick and I think they have a vegan or GF one too. Price for MOD size with any toppings = only $7.97. Top that for good deal! On the topping topic, all of MOD's (unlike some competitors) are top shelf quality. For what it is - this is a convenience food chain after all and not a hand thrown Neapolitan pizzeria - the crust is pretty darned good too. DOES GOOD SERVICE MAKE FOOD TASTE BETTER?: It seems the people who work at any MOD are friendly and efficient in moving through people in line, even those who are MOD newbies and need a little extra help for the first visit. True here too. MOD was started by a former Starbuck's Exec and leverages what works well at that chain too for friendly people serving customers. They're still working out new place wobbles here but headed in the right direction. LIBATIONS: Help yourself fountain drinks like real lemonade (Marionberry is a fav), iced tea (one with pear too), sodas in bottles, floats, draft beer and new learning for us today - MOD has milkshakes. Not that I'd choose one with pizza, but maybe one day I'll order a salad with MOD-est calorie content and pair a shake with it. No coffee service it seems. OTHER EXTRAS: Another reason to love MOD is their No Name cakes. These are, as you might guess for the way they are wrapped in silver foil, MOD's riff on the Hostess Ding Dong. But in the case of the MOD, No Name it is a tender really good chocolate cake with luscious vanilla kissed cream filling and enrobed in chocolate ganache. I know...I thought cake as dessert chaser to a pizza was an odd idea too. But carried out to eat later with a steaming hot cup of coffee it is "splendelicious". SPACE WITH LOTS OF SEATING & NOT TOO MUCH NOISE: As a rule, I'm not such a fan of eating in MOD's spaces just for the noise level created by hard surfaces, high industrial ceilings and really loud, head banging music mixes. But at this location the music was not turned up too much over the top and I got to listen to the likes of Eric Clapton and CSNY so what's not to love? Lots of seating in 3 separate indoor areas and looks like outside set up for nice weather. And a BIG woohoo that among the options of booths for 2 or 4 people, lots of tables with chairs or benches and maybe seating for 80 in total, only 8 of those seats were high chairs at high tables. Very nice. They get it that standard height seating works for everyone. PARKING: Private lot but it was packed as there are several convenience food eateries in the complex. Like a Zupa's next door. ACCESSIBILITY: Accessible (aka ADA) spaces in lot, level in the door and throughout the eatery, the cattle chute order line could be difficult for a wheelchair user but payment counter is at standard height, standard height seating tables. Loos are accessible but the door opening weight far exceeds ADA and Idaho code maximums of 5lbf and so near impossible for mobility disabled person to open. Easy for management to adjust - it should have been called out as violation by city of Boise building inspectors. PS: There is another MOD that opened a month or so ago on Capitol Boulevard near Trader Joes. I do not know if the two are franchised by the same entity or corporate owned. MOD allows both as part of their business MOD-el. This small chain launched @ 2008 by a former Starbuck's exec ensures controlled expansion is quality centric by having stores either corporate owned or franchised to a select set of applicants with XX years of documented success in food service enterprises and $XXX,000 in cash on hand. read more

This was my first time with Mod - I used the app and ordered salads (2) and cheesy bread to go. My experience, beginning with the user friendly nature of the app superseded my expectations! Their app is easy to navigate, you choose from a set menu, or build your own. You may add whatever you want from the list and as much as you want with no additional cost, I ordered extra cheese - FREE. I was so surprised, because their prices are more than reasonable to begin with. Each ordered item also has an area to add a name, so that there is no confusion when serving, utensils if you need, (how many times have you picked up food and not gotten utensils?!! This reminder for the staff is genius), and an area for comments - I added "extra napkins, please " to mine! When I got there to pick up, I noticed how busy they were and I thought, uh oh! It turned out my reservations were unfounded, because everyone was super friendly and helpful and my food was packed with care, the ingredients were fresh, perfectly seasoned, and delicious. It's 1pm and there are only three people working and we have been standing in line now for almost 20 minutes. The girl working the oven never leaves the front of the oven. Even when she has no pizzas in the oven. She will just stand there and play in her phone while the other two girls try to make pizzas. Most likely won't be back here again. The only reason I'm giving four stars rather than a lower rating is because the young gal who prepared our food and rang us up was super nice, patient with our son and helpful as it was our first time trying Mod. She was too young to run the press for the dough (not sure what it's called exactly) so had to ask for help from who I assume was a manager. The manager seemed super nice as well but the other two gals one wearing a yellow hat preparing mobile orders and the other cooking the pizzas seemed very rude to the young gal helping us. The gal in the yellow hat looked to hate her job and gave the gal helping us a lot of side eye and seemed unprofessional. When we were being checked out the gal was too young to ring up my beer and didn't seem to know it was a beer which seems understandable but the gal cooking the pizza was extremely rude to her for not knowing it was a beer. We all enjoyed our food and the restaurant was very clean and I loved the decoration. We will surely be back thanks to the young gal who helped us! A co-worker of mine has been telling me how great MOD Pizza is for the last couple years. Unfortunately, we didn't have this chain in Boise until just recently, so it's time to put her opinion to the test. The first time I went in was a few days before Christmas to get her a gift card as a present (I'm a genius). It was about 30 minutes before closing and the place was empty. Looking around it appeared to be similar to Blaze Pizza where there were a few restaurant originals on the menu or you could create your own with your choice of toppings, which were laid out before you (think Subway restaurant). I wasn't able to read much of the menu when a super nice dude popped up from behind the counter and greeted me. He familiarized me with their menu and how it works. I asked for a $50 gift card. He said if I bought two $25 cards, he would throw in two free pizzas. Sold. Came back to eat a few weeks later. We both did modified versions of their Margharita. One was done with regular crust and the other on cauliflower crust. A gluten FRIENDLY crust is available, too. Staff here was (again) super friendly, enthusiastic, and went out of their way to make sure our experience was the best. The pizza was delicious. Another staff member who was equally as friendly and enthusiastic as the others came out and recommended we try some pesto to dip our crusts in. We agreed and she brought out two cups of it (for FREE). It was awesome. Also on the menu are garlic and cheese breads which appear to be made from the pizza dough and a two or three salads. You can also make your own salad from the pizza toppings. Coke products as well as bottled drinks and some beer. Head on over and get your MOD on. I'll be back. read more

First time to MOD. Same great concept as Blaze. Flat price for build your own pizza. Good location by the mall. All the components are there for this to be successful. At least today, the one failing seemed to be lack of management and training. There was no clear manager present leading the staff. With a minor lunch rush (10-20 people in line) the operation seemed to be near the breaking point. Staff would grab a handful of toppings and throw it at the pizza. Toppings were running out leaving staff scrambling to the kitchen and looking under the prep area for refills. The precut mushrooms came out to the line an unattractive oxidized brown. Those working the main line seemed frazzled. Despite all the nervous energy, it seemed to take them longer to get through the orders while simultaneously making you feel rushed. I suppose there was one other thing. None of the toppings were labeled. Some are obvious, but when you have 3 or 4 ground meat/sausage options, for example, you'd speed the process if people could more easily identify and communicate what they wanted. With that said, the end result turned out fine. Sauce and crust were good. Oven cooked it hot and fast, as it should. Hopefully they'll work out the people/training/operational issues. Went in to grab a quick bite before work last Friday, place was clean and bright, got my food fairly quick. I always enjoy the food. But half way threw my meal I noticed there was some sort of issue with the employees. There was an older bald male that seemed to be getting frustrated and angry. Now, working in a restaurant myself, I know that things happen and people can get upset, but this was a bit overboard. When customers can hear the issue and hear the languages that was being used, that is not good. He pulled one of the girls in the back and was yelling at her, told her to "get the fuck out" then came out front and as I was throwing my garbage away and proceeded to tell 2 other girls to leave as well.... what a show.... I would not want to work in a hostile environment. I felt really bad for the girls, having to deal with an manager or whom ever he was. Hopefully this is not a reoccurring problem. When you have a problem you do not respond in front of a bunch of customers. Very unprofessional. read more

I so protest! A bbq chicken pizza with grilled chicken, onions, bbq sauce, etc. is the same price as the same size pizza with cheese ONLY. Well this is crap. Crust was burnt, not wood fired but burnt. The toppings were horribly dry and thin and the pizzas are crazy small. The cheese pizza didn't even have anything in the middle. If they are trying to be artistic, STOP! Tasted of chemicals and two 7 year olds wouldn't even eat it. I hate my dog but can't be that mean and feed it to him. My wife and I tried MOD Pizza for the first time yesterday. We walked in during peak dinner rush hours, and the place was fairly busy, but the pizza and service was amazing. My wife ordered a pizza and added mushrooms to it, but the addition got lost in the shuffle and the pizza came out without the mushrooms added. The workers at MOD quickly fired another pizza with the additions and provided it to us free-of-charge, along with our regular pizzas we ordered. This location has only been open for a few weeks, so we did appreciate the attention and care taken to correct the mistake. The energy and enthusiasm of the staff made the location very welcoming. Each person that walked through the door was greeting with a loud "Hello welcome to MOD! Thanks for coming in!" Little things like that go a long way. We are already discussing our next trip and what we want to get. read more

For anyone who likes to have a pizza custom made with all their favorite toppings, this is the place to go. My pizza tasted great and it was cooked to perfection. MOD staff were friendly and accommodating. Wait time was a little longer than expected, but like everywhere these days, all you can do is be patient. They offered me a drink while I waited which I thought was nice of them knowing how busy they were. I feel I should address the behavior of another customer toward the MOD staff. I was deeply disturbed by the lack of respect. This customer was clearly upset that they had to wait for their pizza and decided to take it out on the employees. No excuse for belittling and berating someone who is over worked and under paid. To anyone that finds themselves frustrated by the long lines and slow service..How would you feel if someone came to your place of work and yelled at you for something that is out of your control? I was very much anticipating the opening of Mod here in Boise. We lived near a Mod Pizza before and went a couple times a month. I understand this is a new location and there are kinks. People are new. The girl that helped me was just not focused on the details I was providing her. The size was wrong, the toppings she started with was wrong. She started to make me the bread sticks and I was ordering a mini Lucy Sunshine. ‍ Not a big deal. The place had two patrons at the time. Maybe they were just getting started. However the pizza didn't live up to prior pizzas I had and the mini Caesar salad was very lackluster. Sadly. Maybe I'll give the downtown location a try next time. read more

We have had two experiences with this pizza chain that were fantastic. I have a condition that causes high histamine levels that is triggered by gluten, dairy, soy, and spicy food. I was so excited to try out the pizza and I enjoyed it immensely, however disappointment was waiting in the wings on our third and fourth times ordering. We ordered pizza from here last week and, despite the receipt having my correct order, they put my husband's sriracha ranch on my pizza instead of his. I had trouble breathing, painfully swollen joints and gums, and intense fatigue for a week from the two bites I took before I realized the mistake. We called the hotline and they offered to remake and refund my pizza (not my husband's, though his order didn't have the sauce he asked for) and he head to drive 25 minutes to pick up because they don't deliver to us. We were told they would have the order ready, however when he got there he was passed around, finally speaking with the manager who said "oh yeah, I heard about that one." He then made my husband wait while he made half of the pizza, passed it off to someone else, and they made the pizza incorrectly again. We decided to try again this week hoping that it was just an off day. Nope. They once again put my husband's topping sauce on my pizza which I cannot eat (caught it before eating, luckily, saving myself from another week of being ill). That is 5 pizzas made incorrectly, for those of you following along at home. We were offered a refund and to have our pizza remade, but declined having it remade. We will not be going back. read more
