I've been to Modern Bread and Bagel three times. Their location is great. Right in the heart of Beverly Hills. They are just South of Sephora on Beverly Drive. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have comfy indoor and outdoor seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Very easy to pick up to-go. They have brunch all day. Special menus for the month. Coffee and specialty coffee drinks. They are 100% gluten free and certified kosher. I revisited Modern Bread and Bagel twice more since my last review (which was delivery). Service in house was great both times. But the quality of the food was vastly different. On one visit we ordered the raspberry matcha loaf, orange loaf, and chocolate zucchini loaf. The raspberry matcha was my favorite of the three. We also got the potato leak quiche which was yummy. I ordered the Farmer's Market bagel but when I got home I noticed they gave me Spicy Feta bagel instead. Tried calling to let them know but they didn't pick up. It turned out to be a happy accident. We wanted to go back and get it again. We liked it so much. I also got the zaatar tuna which was tasty but it was a bit too crunchy for me with lots of celery. Some people may like it that way but I like it more smooth. My next visit however, was not a success. It was, again, a to-go order. Sadly, none of the food tasted fresh. I ordered pastries and the Spicy Feta again. The bagel on the Spicy Feta was hard as a rock. We were unable to cut it with a knife. Such a shame. A sharp difference from the time before. At a bagel shop I expect consistency in the quality of bagels. The pastries, although beautiful to look at, didn't seem like they were made that day. I tried to call the restaurant multiple times to let them know about the bagel and pastries but no one ever answered. I was disappointed that I couldn't reach out to a team member to solve the issue. They really need to get someone to answer the phone. I really wanted to give this restaurant 4 or 5 stars because it has so much to offer and the concept is wonderful. However, the quality of the food was inconsistent and there was no way to reach out to them to solve the issue. It's a gamble on what kind of meal you will get and it shouldn't be that way. I really hope this problem gets fixed because this place has so much potential and I really did enjoy the food the first two times.

Latke Tots

Cute small place with all gluten free breads and bagel sandwiches. Vegetarian/vegan as well. We got their blueberry danish - tasted just like a wheat one - and a donut. We have had some other gf donuts before and they werent great - this one was a lot closer to a regular donut. I also got the spicy feta open toast on sourdough - VERY GOOD. I loved the chili crisp and the fried eggs were cooked perfectly. VERY generous avocado and portion size. My husband got the g'day mate - i think that was it - with avo, egg, and vegan sausage. I think he liked mine better. I would definitely come back and get something with smoked salmon. The sourdough was great too. We also got the latke tots - they werent my favorite but the truffle aioli was very tasty. The woman behind the counter was so helpful since it was our first time and answered all our questions. Theres a parking structure not far away.

I woke up this beautifully clear and warm Sunday morning and found heaven on Beverly Drive close to my office: Modern Bread & Bagel. Everything is GF. Why have I just discovered this joint? GF Donuts, Babka, sourdough bread, sandwiches, coffee cake etc. This is probably best for my waist that I just discovered this Gluten Free Willy Wonka like place but I was like a kid in a candy store trying to decide what to order. I ordered THE BURRATA: Heirloom Tomato, Burrata, Ramp Pistou, Cracked Pepper, Fresh Basil. They were out of sourdough so I had it on an everything bagel. A little difficult to eat on the bagel and would order it on the sourdough bread but I sat on the banquette along the wall and it was delicious. At 11:30 am I asked the server when they close and was told 5pm. I told her good, because it may take me that long to try one of everything. I will be taking out a mortgage and decided to take home 2 GF treats for later. The items are a bit pricey but being Celiac for 26 years I am used to higher prices and these prices are not out of line. But, who am I kidding? I ordered the chocolate Babka and the strawberry glazed donut. I immediately decided I will eat one of them, probably the chocolate Babka, when I get home and try to have a slight modicum of constraint saving whatever else tickles my culinary fancy that I haven't had for many, many years for the Rams football game. I ate the Strawberry donut when I got home and it was very large and delicious. Likewise the chocolate babka which I haven't been able to eat due to being Celiac for over 26 years. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Who knew Heaven was just 5 minutes away.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Everything Bagel (DF) with Chive Cream Cheese
Tara F.

Ordered a bagel from here and it was pretty good, but I have to say, they went a little cray with the amount of cream cheese they put. Every bite I would take, a bunch of cream cheese would be pushed out of my bagel and also get all over my hands and just be super messy. Don't get me wrong, I like a solid amount of cream cheese and I hate when there isn't enough and the bagel is dry. That being said, there can also be too much when you have a difficult time enjoying the bagel because you're eating mostly cream cheese. I got the everything bagel with chive cream cheese.

Apple Pie Latte

Delicious breakfast stop! The place is known for their gluten free bagels/breads so of course we had to try their bagels/breads. We got the Breakfast Grilled cheese on Pan Demin bread and the Morning Stretch on everything bagel. The onion jam on the grilled cheese just blew my mind. It just pushed a simple grilled cheese sandwich into another level. The Morning Stretch sandwich was very flavorful with the addition of their red pepper paste. Would recommend both. The sandwiches are not that big so you don't feel overly stuffed. Next time, we will have to order the grilled cheese on a bigger bread or bagel. We also tried one of their drinks, the apple pie latte. It was really good and not overly sweet. They also have several sweet pastries and deserts. We got the apple pie cinnamon roll and the potato leek quiche to go. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The cafe has plenty of seating both inside and outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was very friendly. Metered street parking available as well as free 2 hour public underground parking nearby.

Avocado/lemon bagel

I just stumbled upon Modern Bread & Bagel. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a nice covered patio and are dog friendly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There is street parking available. I've gone on weekdays, but I'm sure parking can be challenging on a weekend. The first time I went, I ordered the Farmer's Garden on a toasted Everything Bagel. It took quite some time to get my order and people who ordered after me, received their orders before me. I decided to give them a pass on the long wait because things happen and plus the Farmer's Garden was delicious. The bagel was chewy in a good way and super flavorful. Their pastry/dessert case is filled with colorful donuts, cookies, babke's & more, which I decided I needed to come back for. I came back 2 days later and got the avocado/lemon on a seeded bagel. Again, it was fresh, chewy and satisfying. I took a cookie home to go, but again will need to come back to try a donut or breakfast sandwich. Service is very friendly and I received my order quickly. Great little find.

Tasty baked goods, you wouldn't believe that they are being gluten-free! The café is beautiful with plenty of inside as well as outdoor seating. They have a great variety of food and drinks available as well as to our free parking in the garage nearby. Prices are fair and the food is tasty and filling. Great option if you're looking for gluten-free goodies in the area!

Tasty, but not amazing. The everything bagel wasn't as chewy as I prefer but the staff was kind and friendly.

A short line on a Sunday but moved quickly. Friendly and open customer service willing to help and answer all questions. A good selection of breakfast and different types of bagel offerings.

Since I have been wanting to come here for a long time now I went to great pains to find parking nearby and was finally successful. I ordered the B.E.C. on Parmesan toast. It was tasty. But that's the only good thing I have to say about this place. When I was about to pay I could tell another customer was really irked off because it seems like they took too long with her order to be ready. And I noticed the same complaints on other reviews. So here I am waiting for my order for over 10 minutes for something that is a very simple sandwich to make. Not sure why it takes so long but I'm waiting in their nice patio area. Yet being surrounded constantly by gnats makes it frustrating and unappealing to eat here. Well I was just served with my sandwich and not sure why it was packed to go when I told them I wanted to eat at the restaurant. I was responded to with a nonchalant sorry as he plopped down my "to go" bag. Overall very unimpressed for this hype of a place. The vegan bacon was so hard that it was as if I was biting into an impossible tree bark! The presentation was less than mediocre. So disappointing since I had read so many good reviews about this place. Definitely not worth the money or my time.

Morning Stretch Breakfast Grilled Cheese
Megan L.

Delicious food, but variable service! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was very warm and modern, with a reasonable amount of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely try the breakfast sandwiches, because they are so tasty. We got the breakfast grilled cheese sandwiches on an everything bagel, and they were packed with flavor. The onion jam sets it apart, so definitely recommend this one! We also got a morning stretch breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel, which was also pretty good. They came out pretty fast when we went. The chocolate zucchini bread was moist and yummy, and would recommend this one over the cinnamon bun bread, which had a weird texture. There was a bit of an issue with a few staff members, who forgot about our vanilla latte and served other customers their drinks. Upon questioning the server they said they would check on it, but the drink never came. We asked the barista to make it as they forgot, and they nonchalantly handed over the drink with no apology. We thought this was an indicator of poor service for these specific individuals, but luckily the manager was kind enough to refund us the drink and give us a free pastry.

The Big Show
Alethea D.

Solid breakfast sandwich! Everything bagel with egg, sausage, and melted cheddar was crispy outside, soft inside. Iced latte was smooth. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cute cozy spot to start the day.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service is amazing, very kind & accomodating.

Though I've been here just once (for lunch), I am already plotting my return. I arrived a bit earlier than my friends and in so doing, accidentally avoided the start of the lunch rush. As there are not many tables here, I feel I lucked out snagging a table for us. As I took at the cozy, classy splendor of a still very new establishment, the relaxed but polished decor was both inspiring and low-key. I had an excellent espresso while I got my wish: extended time to take in the menus. The drink menu, and the food menu. It's my favorite when that part of the cafe/restaurant experience delivers tons of time to get really acquainted with a place. Our friendly, helpful server asked the questions I had about the menu, and the time he didn't know he went and found out. Breakfast is served all day, by the way. My friend started with the sausage rolls (accompanied by the freshly made ketchup). Delicious and great for a table starter or a fairly light entree. Good crunch, and moist inside with plenty of seasoning. My entree was the black forest ham quiche. It was indicative of everything else here: the right size, the right mix of produce, protein, fluffy, cheesy egg inside, and anchored by a subtle but first-rate crust. It's served with a fennel based salad, a crisp and a great complement. We were happy and satisfied sooner than expected (alas, Le Moules must wait). Still, I could not resist a little dessert and ordered the Pain Aux Apricot. It was fantastic, something out of a cafe in Paris. Crisp and light and just sweet enough. Appreciated the friendly service. A steady diet of 70's soft-rock quietly served as the soundtrack at this one lunch. There is easily accessible parking on the street or mostly-free city lot.

I NEVER write Yelp reviews, but this is more of an open letter to management, or the owners, or…read morewhoever thinks you can charge $6 for a 9-gram "doppio" espresso from a glorified plastic Keurig machine. The savory and sweet food is SO GOOD!! The service is better than any other local places, and very low-pressure. I say all of this from the perspective of someone who has worked alongside Physics PhD researchers and about five different Michelin-starred chefs. First of all, for how tucked-away Sweet Angeles is, this cafe/small restaurant felt like a hidden gem! They have FILET MIGNON on a dinner menu??!! I must, must, MUST come back to try that!! Veronica, with her incredible tray of sweet samples, piqued my curiosity to enter Sweet Angeles, but "B" is definitely the person who convinced me to stay! As a coffee scientist (and perhaps snob? ) of decades, I had far, FAR too many annoying questions to ask, and "B" both tolerated and answered each of them with a degree of empathy that was top-notch and rarely found in LA nowadays. Really more of a Ritz-Carlton level of customer service than a cafe experience. The owners should be very proud of this. I only ordered a bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese (and what they call "coffee"), but the sandwich was SO perfect! You'd be amazed by how many cafes screw up something with only three ingredients, but this was likely better than one I would make myself. The sweets are TRULY unique in their construction, presentation, texture, and flavor -- DO try the one with pistachio and raspberry, as well as the "Nutella one that's fluffy like a pillow" -- you WILL NOT be disappointed!! As I was leaving, "B" asked my honest 1-10 opinion of the cafe. I told her I'd give it a 9/10, which in Yelp-land amounts to a solid five stars. The few small things that are "off" or otherwise "wrong" about Sweet Angeles? They are listed below, but I remind you, EVERY business can always improve no matter how wonderful they are. #1 -- This one is bad for the owners, but GREAT for the customers! THE SAVORY FOOD PRICES ARE TOO LOW!! At a VERY over-rated Ukrainian cafe, I paid DOUBLE for a bagel/lox/cream cheese sandwich that was inedible, and Sweet Angeles still has to pay their Rodeo Drive rent prices! They could increase food prices significantly if they wanted. #2, 3, and 4 -- The espresso is overpriced (~$6 for a plain black shot), the machine is a budget touch-screen model (not commercial-grade), and the beans are over-roasted and generic. For context, a proper shot should be ~$4.50 max, and this was a one-button operation worth about the price of its paper cup. I'd expect this hospital/airport-quality to be priced ~$2.25-$3.25. That said, this is a BUSINESS OWNER decision and does NOT reflect the excellent warmth and service of the employees. I understand that Armenians have different tastes (compared to modern, specialty, or "3rd wave" Western palates) regarding coffee, and they have their own distinct methods of producing it. This was NOT Armenian-style coffee, which is something I would LOVE to see at a shop like this () -- single-served "Jazzve" coffees which take a couple of minutes to make, rather than the plastic "espresso machine" with the plastic hot water tubing and other parts. I want to reiterate that the food was FANTASTIC and actually under-priced, and the employees were extremely welcoming and very kind considering the endless questions I asked. If the manager or owners just so happen to read this 10-page essay, I want to say this... I would happily help you (possibly even for free) with: 1. finding proper coffee beans at an affordable price, 2. finding someone to buy the pretend espresso machine, 3. finding, buying, or financing a new (or lightly used) proper espresso machine, 4. buying a couple of high-quality grinders (very crucial), and 5. training on how to produce the basic espresso drinks in the way that local AND international customers have come to expect in this city, and I'd also be happy to teach latte art. AGAIN, I still give this place a 9 out of 10, because it's obviously a bakery before it's a coffee shop. When asked, I told "B" the shop's a 9/10, but the coffee was a 2/10, but I was being polite. The coffee was really and truly a 1/10. Maybe it tastes better with matcha, food coloring, and various milk products? Who knows. But if the owners/management want to make Sweet Angeles a 12 out of 10, and genuinely achieve excellence, they should feel very welcome to reply to this 5-star review and get in contact with me. Good coffee is often the difference between a business "just surviving" and truly winning the game. From the heart -- I wish you all the best, Sweet Angeles!

Perhaps they were busy making their orders. They only had one person working at the counter. However, once the representative approached me, he took his time helping me choose my order and he was very nice. I found this place while searching for cupcakes on Yelp. There are not many cupcake options in the area anymore. However, I learned they only have cupcakes available for preordering. There were none in store which was disappointing. Additionally, I did not see a lot of the pastries that are shown on Yelp. Seems like they changed their dessert menu within the last year. They do have little pastries, cakes, drinks, and a savory menu with crepes. The pastries are gorgeous and I was excited to try them. However, according to the representative most are made with beef gelatin and are therefore, not vegetarian so, being a vegetarian, my options were limited. I appreciate that he let me know. They did have a vegetarian option for me though. I ordered the raspberry cake. It was delightful. Not as showy as the mousse gelatin desserts but still a pretty dessert and very tasty and melt in my mouth soft. Overall, a cute yet very touristy place to visit. Since options for me were limited I probably would not return as it is out of the way but I do think it was worth a try and a one time treat and what I got was delicious. Parking on the street. Valet parking available next door. Public parking lots nearby.

Jump to yesterday when I remembered I still had that coupon to redeem that was about to expire. And as it turned out, I was already planning a trip to the westside. They were so helpful and redeemed it for me, asking what flavor and time I wanted to pick it up.
