I have since moved back to the city and ordered from here a bunch of times, but the peak of my dining experience was when I came here for the Hanukkah specials with a friend that was visiting the city for the holidays. First the ambience is so, so dreamy and romantic but not aggressively so. Whoever the interior designer was deserves all the props because they managed to make a storefront that looks pretty unassuming from the outside look like a romantic gothic oasis. I was taking notes because it was so inviting and spacious. The crew here put a lot of care into the specials and it really showed. My highlights were the samosa latkes and of course the tiramisu, which has left the menu (temporarily I hope) for the season. I did want to add the portion sizes are bigger when you dine in, so I was appreciative to have some leftovers of the cacio e Pepe which despite my eyes really wanting me to eat my stomach couldn't take because I was already full off the apps. They also have a nice list of cocktails (favorite was the old fashioned) and the glasses are so classy. I didn't spend too much for dinner, drinks, appetizer and dessert for two, coming in at just over a Ben so thank you modern love for a magical time. My 2024 vow is to support vegan businesses, as so many are closing. I hands down would recommend modern love and hope I can continue dining here for many years to come! read more

Got take out from here. I started to order, because the food looked really unique. Not until I was told this was a vegan did I realize it, which I normally don't visit. Shrooms & Grits were full of flavor and amazing, possible my favorite dish we got. Rosemary Potatoe salad - it was average, nothing special. Blistered Shishito - the peppers themselves were average, but the dipping sauce that came with them made them so much better! Fried Mozzarella - these were my second favorite item, these were amazing. Although the dipping sauce seemed to just be tomato paste. Chicken Parm Hero - it was ok in flavor, like chicken parm hero, but a but more dry. Dipping sauce did help. Seitan & Waffles - wasn't good at, wouldn't recommend it. Yummm, I don't know why it took me so long to come here! The nachos were DELICIOUS. Really good cashew queso. Super well-flavored and satisfying, without being a ridiculously large portion. I've had Modern Love bookmarked for a while after stalking their IG page and I finally got around to them lol. Me and my best friend order the garlic parm wings (seitan), nacho molo, chickpea parmesan hero, jerk tofu bowl, and a milkshake. We shared the wings and nachos. The wings were sooooo good. I never had seitan of that texture. It was crumbly but still very flavorful. The sauce on the wings was great also. No complaints. The nachos were good also. Pretty regular. I had the chickpea parm and i loved it. Only thing i didn't like was the arugula. I ended up talking it off so next time i'll just ask for the hero without it. My best friend had the jerk tofu and milkshake and it loved it. He isn't vegan and keep asking "this vegan too?" For everything we ate. Im like "yes sir. I wouldn't be eating it if it wasn't " lol. One of the best vegan places I've tried. The food is excellent! They do hearty and delicious vegan comfort food made from scratch, and they have a large variety of options. I've only ordered for delivery but am looking forward to dining there now that restaurants have opened up more. My order was ready fast and the food was hot. I tried the Mushroom Brie Burger and the Nacho Mac. 10/10 would get them again! The Mushroom Burger comes with their house seitan bean burger, cashew brie, sautéed mushrooms, shallots, arugula, and house mayo. The Nacho Mac... All I'm saying is I love cheese, and I love mac n cheese. I didn't think I'd like vegan mac and then I discovered this place! This space has a nice atmosphere and was recommended to us as a great brunch spot. While the service was great, the food left a lot to be desired. I've eaten a lot of vegan food that was filled with flavor, that was not the experience here. The French toast was dry, the waffles lacked color and that balance of crunch on the outside and softness on the inside. I'm not sure my sister liked her meal at all, as she barely touched it. I happened to find the place from just searching on Yelp. Thanks Yelp! Thankfully it wasn't far from where i was. When i entered the restaurant it was a bit busy but the wait was 5 mins, since i was dining alone. The hostess was very nice and welcoming. My main server Chris was okay. He did seem to be covering a lot of tables so it did take him some time to bring things i had asked for or he completely forgot my request for sat and pepper. I didn't take pictures of the interior but it was cute and welcoming! There were a lot of groups 2-4 people and it is a great date location. The food! So i ordered the mushroom fried chick'n which was amazing! They seasoned it the way you would season fried chicken so that was nice. The meal was served with mushroom chickpea gravy, cauliflower cream mashed potatoes and coleslaw. I enjoyed my meal but could have used some salt and pepper. For desert i had two scoops of cashew ice cream- vanilla bean and chai cookies and cream. The vanilla was so creamy and tasted amazing. I liked the overall concept of the food but I didn't feel this place did vegan cuisine justice. Pretty good! I visited Modern Love for the first time a few days ago. First, I made a reservation on Open Table, which was easy. I was running 15 min late, so I messaged the restaurant through the Open Table app. The staff responded right away saying it was no problem. I ultimately arrived 30 min late but faced no obstacles at the restaurant. We got seated right away after arriving. The staff was so nice! We ordered three items: 1) Kale Caesar, 2) Mushroom Fried Chicken, and 3) Tofu Mole Rojo. The portion sizes were generous! We started with the salad and it tasted awesome. I'm all about the dressings and sauces. The kale had plenty of dressing. I'd never tried mushroom fried chicken from oyster mushrooms but they were so good! It was really well-prepared. I felt like the fried mushrooms would have benefitted from a lemon dill sauce on the side. On their own, they taste a little plain The Tofu Mole Rojo was mildly sweet. The side of cornbread was also just a little sweet. I liked that. Again, I felt like that dish could have benefitted from some lemon or lime juice. Always sad when this happens, but what was once one of my favorite places has gone way downhill and looking at other reviews it seems like I'm not the only one who has noticed this. I ordered the Brie burger and both buns as well as the patty were completely burned. I think the Brie is different now too because I used to love it and now it just tastes like basic cashew spread and no cheesy consistency. I also thought the chocolate strawberry shortcake was disgusting - way too much frosting and the flavors didn't go well together. Wow the quality of the food has gone way down. I'm so disappointed. I came a few years back and absolutely loved this place, the fried chicken dinner was incredible!! I'm disappointed to hear it's been removed from the new menu. I tried the waffle and chicken brunch item (which uses the same oyster mushroom as the fried chicken meal) but this time around I was shocked at the quality of the food. Though it presents fine, there was absolutely no flavor whatsoever. No seasoning, no love in the food that was once there. This used to be a great vegan spot I loved recommending, but if the food doesn't taste like anything I simply cannot recommend anymore. Really disappointed. I also tried the calamari and thought it was a fluke how under seasoned and tasteless it was, until I also tried the chicken and waffles. I was honestly quite disappointed by our experience at ML. I make a point of sampling as many vegan restaurants as I can, and I expected this to be among the best. The food was good, and I do especially recommend the nachos, but the whole menu is bar food and comfort food - heavy, saucy or fried - without many light or small options for side dishes. The appetizers are huge. We thought based on price that they would smaller than the entrees, but ended up with too much food. Finally, the few vegetables that were served fresh - like the bed of lettuce under the oyster mushroom "calamari," or the side salad with the burger - were not dressed, as if they weren't there to be eaten. (The side salad had dressing just dropped on top, but with no room on the plate to toss it yourself. If your whole MO is to showcase vegetables, please dress the darn leaves.) The even bigger issue was the service. Our servers were friendly, but really rushed us, even though we went between lunch and dinner and there was no competition for our table. They brought out our entree while we were just getting started on our huge appetizers. They came out a dozen times to offer us a doggie bag or to try to clear the plates while we were eating. Finally, they offered us the dessert menu while we were still eating. When we left, there was one other table finishing up and one table just seated. I can't imagine what the rush was about; in any case, that's an area for improvement in their training. Both my stomach and taste buds thank me for coming here. Also their version of Harry Potters butterbeer was also very yummy. Delicious vegan restaurant in Williamsburg! I've been here a few times before, and I must say they've never disappointed. The parmesan wings and nachos are always an amazing go to for starters. Even non-vegans are obsessed with the wings. I went here on last Saturday night, and decided to switch it up from my usual mac & cheese bowl. Modern Love's a solid, go-to sit-down/casual vegan dinner, definitely will be coming back! I came with a party of 3 on a Friday evening around 6pm and didn't need a reservation; there were plenty of open tables both inside and in their outdoor dining spot. My table split an appetizer (the Garlic Parmesan Wings -- the Seitan option) and two entrees (the Pesto Bucatini with Burrata and Buffalo Mac and Cheese with Cauliflower and Mushroom Bacon), the serving sizes were decent and just about filled us all up! The seitan wings were very seitan-y (I hope the vegans out there understand what I mean), and the sauce was on the saltier side, but had a pleasantly strong parmesan taste for a vegan version. I would give it a 3/5, may not order it again but it's a decent appetizer. That being said, the entrees were definitely the stars of the show. The Pesto Bucatini was absolutely delicious, and the cashew burrata served on top was a great fresh pairing to the rich pesto sauce. A strong 5/5, would definitely order again. The chickpea cutlet we ordered it with was a decent crunch, but not too noteworthy (I might pass on this in a future visit). The Buffalo Mac and Cheese also hit the spot, the table almost ordered a second bowl! Great noodle to sauce ratio, and the buffalo sauce gave a slight kick without it being spicy at all. My group was made up of well-versed foodie vegans, one of which was left unimpressed by Modern Love after a previous visit back in 2019. It's safe to say after this visit, we were all blown away by the quality of the dishes. 3.5 I think I ordered the wrong thing. I got the Mushroom Brie Burger and I did not like it. The patty was waaay to dense and had no flavor. I didn't finish it. However, I did try my friends food and theirs was so much better. One got the nachos and the other got the Mac n cheese with tofu. I don't know how they did it, but the tofu tasted like chicken nuggets. I would definitely order what they ordered again. We also tried this lemon cake in a jar dessert and it was very good. Whether you're plant-based or not, you have to try out Modern Love. I was taken here by my two best friends and I was awe-struck at how amazing everything was. From the delicious (and strong) drinks to the satisfying entrees, all the way down to all of their delectable deserts - it made the perfect setting for my birthday dinner. My favorite part of the meal had to be the appetizers, though. The mushroom oysters were incredible - and really did taste like oysters. The alcoholic drinks were reasonably priced for NYC, but they were very well-mixed and you could actually get lit off of one or two. My only complaint was that my crispy chicken sandwich wasn't that tender. I was constantly having to rip it with my hands so I could take a bite, or else the whole patty would be in my mouth! I used to eat here all the time but tonight I placed an order through Grubhub, waited an hour and a half, and then the restaurant told me the driver still hadn't even picked it up so they were going to send it to me in an UberEats taxi. They never did. By the time I realized it was never going to come it was 10pm and too late to order from anywhere else. They stopped answering the phone and my night was ruined. Incredibly rude service!!! We were told there would be a 20 minute wait, which transpired into a one hour wait! When someone else came after us and was told there was a similar delay, they were offered a free ice cream while we were offered nothing until we requested. Maybe my 60 year old mother and I did not look hip enough to deserve this? Half hour into our wait, they nonchalantly came out and told us that one main ingredient was missing - did it really take half an hour to realize that before informing us? When I asked why we were not offered a complimentary dessert, the woman taking our order basically yelled at me. I don't care how decadent the vegan treats here look, I won't be back. Let me start by saying the food here is pretty good, which is why I've gone back so many times after several experiences where the service was off. It's clear that customer service is not their strong suit, but last night was a last straw. I'm the vegan out of my friend group, and always trying to get folks to try plant based food, so I've brought multiple people here. Last night the service was abysmal. Here's the rundown: 1. We ordered drinks (a margarita, apple cider, sparkling wine and lemonade) and food. Our food came out before the drinks. When we asked where the drinks were, we were told the bar was backed up. It would've been nice if someone informed us of that. But it wasn't true- it seems like they just forgot to bring them to us, because the drinks came IMMEDIATELY after that and the hot apple cider I ordered was pretty room temperature. They were probably just sitting there for a while. The person who brought our drinks accidentally spilled a drink all over the table, into the food, phones, etc. I felt really bad, because she wasn't even our server, and was just trying to help because we mentioned we hadn't received them yet. Everyone was apologetic about it, and eventually everything was cleaned up. They replaced the buffalo wings that was ruined by the spilled drink (which wasn't even the correct drink, but more on that later) 2. My friends pasta was cold (was probably sitting out for a while) 3. We had to ask for them to bring the missing drink, and when they came with it, it wasn't even what we ordered. So we had to wait for them to get it right. It was a simple glass of sparkling wine btw 4. We ordered ice cream once we were done eating. They brought it out with no spoons so we had to wait about 5 minutes to get someone's attention to bring us some. 5. We split the bill between 3 cards, and we realized that they charged one of the cards twice. When we brought it to the managers attention, she tried to correct us by saying it was a merchant copy we were looking at, when we clearly saw two merchant copies with the same credit card numbers. She then had to refund all cards and recharge, so of course we have double holds on our cards now. Each of these incidents are pretty inconsequential and could've been forgiven/overlooked but the combination of them all is obscene. What's more disheartening is that we were offered endless apologies, and no other gestures to make it right. No adjustments to the bill, no dessert or drink on the house for the inconvenience, nothing! We all left pretty baffled by the experience. It sucks because the food was really good, but at this point I'd be setting myself up to continue going here when I've never had a great customer service experience. read more
