I must explain my AWFUL experience at MODESTO SUBARU. I was in an accident that totaled my 2013 Subaru Impreza. I went to go view a car I had quoted online. I had spoken with Ron Meyer. I told him that I would visit in the morning to take a look at the car. I just went in to see the subaru, I wanted no obligations or sales pitches. He rudely walked up to me and berated me. Told me I was "rude" for not asking for him, as if I were somehow obligated to ask for him because of our discussions online. He told me that "I do this for a living and you do this to me?" I was mortified. Moreover another salesmen Anatoly (sp?) muttered under his breath and rudely stormed off when I greeted him with a "Hello." I spoke to the manager and he apologized for the behavior but I was mortified, that a salesman had just treated me with such DISGUSTING behavior. They ridiculed the fact that I named my cars, one salesman even suggested I name my car "BINKY." they were awful and sleazy men who tried to take advantage of a young customer. Moreover I overheard them arguing over how I was "pulling one over them" I had no ride back home and was ready to purchase the car and take it home that day. I WILL NOT BUY A SUBARU EVER AGAIN. They'be lost me as a loyal customer. Chris, who was kind and patient was their savior at least for a while. He gave me a deal that was decent but I walked away because I could not do business with a dealership whose character I questioned. INSTEAD I purchased a 2014 TOYOTA COROLLA. I then begrudgingly went to MODESTO TOYOTA- but spitting nails. I was livid. And hating any and every car salesmen. BRONEIL greeted me and I reluctantly greeted him. My friend was with me so she difused the situation and explained to him my awful ordeal at Modesto Subaru. He was patient, kind, and saw it as a challenge to change my mood. He promised he would try everything in his power to do so. He showed me all the Scions but I dismissed them because there were no 4-door models. He then suggested the COROLLA. I immediately rejected it "I don't want a MOM car!" He then walked me over and showed it to me. I stuck with my statement out of spite. But my friend suggested I at least sit in it. At first I refused, but thought I might give it a try since Broneil walked inside to get the key. Once I sat in there I was THOROUGHLY IMPRESSED, He left my friend and I to assess the car. I told him "If you can get me a manual transmission, moonroof, heated seats, white car, maybe we'll talk." He rushed into the office and found 3 and stated "The only bad news is that we have to find it." THE LOT IS 14 ACRES.We searched through 95% of it and found one of the models. I was IMPRESSED with how it looked. I took it for a test drive, and Broneil managed to make me laugh during it. He even suggested we use his desktop computer to research the car. His manager ROB YOUNG was just as fabulous. Even SARGON DAVID, the finance manager was as pleasant. I ended up buying that exact car I test drove. Fell in love with it. Wonderful service and car! I went in on a Sunday and was still in doubt if I was going to buy a car at all. Several employees were helpful and accommodating. I drove a few and discussed my options. Brought my '04 Forester in for a recall; potentially rusty lower control arms due to salt being used on some state's roads, and I bought the car in CT. Very warm receptionist and comfy, large waiting room, coffee. Car passed the test but Subaru gave me a full page checklist of things they inspect on the car, from brakes to rust to tire pressure. That was nice and reassuring to know. Also they through in a free car wash and spot vacuum! That was much appreciated since a freakin pigeon had recently given freakin birth middair and and the egg hit the top of the driver window glass and the force of it pushed freaking pigeon egg yolk THOUGH the space between glass and rubber gasket! I had freakin pigeon eggshell INSIDE my car!!! I freakin hate flying rats!! read more

The service department is a joke! We have had a rim curbed and bent durning one service and this time when we took our WRX in for an oil change they didn't put the cap back on the oil filler or on the wiper fluid! By the time we got home there was oil everywhere under the hood. They did bring us a rental car but because it was a holiday weekend it took 4 days to get our car back. They don't even seem to care that they are so blatantly incompetent. Be advised don't take your vehicle to Modesto Subaru! We will not be going back. read more

Decided to drive the hour twenty minutes to Modesto Subaru doesn't 3rd oil change (4 covered with me car purchase). Lapon is still here and remembered me and my family from the day we bought the Impreza. EVERYONE was exceptionally nice. The front desk, the service consultant, and the general manager. UPDATE!!!! Fast forward 8 months later.. Still very happy with the Crosstrek, super dependable, hands down best car I have ever owned. So I came in to Modesto Subaru to get a routine oil change and as always I was greeted by very friendly staff and everything went off without a hitch. About an hour after I got home I noticed a large amount of small black, oily spots all over the my car, looked like overspray of some sort. I called Subaru and told them what was on my vehicle and asked if maybe something might have gotten on it while being serviced. Immediately the service rep told me to bring it down which I did. Now I cannot be 100% that the spots occurred while being serviced but even so they took my car, washed it, and waxed every single spot off the car. In all honesty I can say without question this business has defined unparalleled, exceptional customer service. Again Modesto Subaru has in a very deserving way earned a customer for life and I would hands down recommend this place for anyone looking for a great car by an exceptional staff! read more

Getting your car serviced is a little like going to the dentist. You know you have to do it but you want as little pain as possible. I cannot say enough good things about this dealership. It is beautiful. But the staff is what makes this a great place. When I arrived at Modesto Subaru, I did not know where the service dept was so I walked in to the front doors where I was greeted by a young lady that asked if she could direct me to anywhere specific. I told her that I was looking for service and she walked me to the dept. When I got to the service desk, I noticed that there were several people in front of me and I realized that I had not made an appointment for service. I was not sure if they were going to have room for me and my car but Jessica the service manager acknowledged my presence and said that she would be right with me. The Parts Manager saw that it was busy and came over to assist me in checking in my car. How often do you see a Parts Manager taking the initiative to help someone who is outside of his dept? That really impressed me. A shuttle took me to my work and when the car was finished, Marsha the cashier notified me promptly. I picked up my car and paid for it in cash but was short a few cents. Marsha opened up her purse and took care of the difference and told me to pay it forward. That was Awesome!!! I figured the first way to pay it forward was to write this posting on Yelp. I only post compliments on Yelp because I think that 95% of all Yelpites are complainers by nature to begin with and this site needs a little balance. ;-) Way to Go Modesto Subaru! I set up an appointment for a 30K mile inspection online. It had no pricing so I asked when I got there. It was a little more than I was prepared for, so instead I opted for just an oil change & tire rotation at this time.The guy who helped me was very friendly and said "Okay, no problem. We'll get you into the express service & have you out of here in no time." He didn't try to pressure me into doing any more than what I asked for. The express service came with a complimentary inspection of a few basic things like tires, brakes etc. I had some yummy coffee and was done about 40 minutes later. The service department has always been excellent and I have always felt they had done great work. Businesses rarely surprise me, but this one did. I called mid-afternoon to quote a price for some brake work. I ended up going in and they gave me the scenario I was dreading of a full brake job. I mean it was already 2pm and I have an STi, so realistically it was not going to be done today was my thought. They started with a full inspection, so I went on my way and awaited the call. Shortly thereafter I got a call stating the good and bad. Front brakes and rotors but no rear job required. All parts in stock! Thank you parts department! I approved the work and it was done before 5pm with a courtesy wash! If that is not 5 star service I don't know what is! The service department here is amazing!!! I live in Oakland but visit family in Modesto. I had a check engine light come on while driving out to Modesto. When I got into town and called them and they where so polite and worked to get me in to check out my car. I did not want to drive back without knowing what the problem was. The staff was exceptional, the waiting area was clean and offered snacks and beverages. I do wish the service department was open on the weekend so that I could coordinate family visits with my car services. read more

My wife and I purchased a new Outback limited and had a wonderful experience with the sales manager Nelson and his associate Reggie. Both are honest, straight forward, and men of their words. I've been waiting for a while to pull the trigger on an Outback but was in no hurry as I like to research everything about a vehicle I buy. After asking friends about their new legacy, they mentioned their experience with the local dealership and how wonderful it was. Being from the Eastbay, it was a little further than I wanted to travel. When we were ready to purchase (5 months down the road) we hit all the East and Southbay Subaru dealerships with the price WE wanted to pay. After a few weekends, my wife and I narrowed it down to two as the other dealerships jumped ship. We are hard on sales managers as 35 years of good and bad buying experiences makes a person thick skin. So on Saturday we go to make a deal on our new Outback and I ask my wife to call our Modesto friends. They gave us the number to Modesto Subaru and we leave a message to have them call us (just for grins). They called back just as I was walking into the sales office to make the deal at our first choice dealership. Modesto Subaru's deal was so good that I walked out and was there in an hour. If I could give 0 stars I would. I bought a used car 3 Months ago from Modesto Subaru. While the sales people were amazing, the service people were not. I went in for my first service appointment, simple oil change and tire rotation. The mechanics found that the rim of one of my tires was so damaged, that he was surprised I hadn't been in a massive car accident. It was $500 worth of damage to my car. After two different repair shops looked at it, it was confirmed that whoever had done my last service had either 1) seen the extensive damage and tried to cover it up by tightening the lug nuts or 2) never tightened the lug nuts which then caused rattling and all the damage to happen. Either way, the last place to have serviced my car (and done a so-called full inspection when purchased from the previous owner) was Modesto Subaru. Basically, either really sloppy service department or straight negligence for safety and life. I will never refer this dealership, and if you're buying a used car, have your own mechanic look it over because they don't have quality at this dealership's service station. read more

I had been looking online for a 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe (yes I bought a Hyundai from a Subaru dealership), but I finally found the exact one I had been looking for. A white 2013 Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track with a 6-speed manual. The price they had advertised online was almost $24k but I wasn't about to spend that much since I could get the exact same car in an automatic for $2k less in Vacaville. So my mom, my boyfriend (who is the one who taught me manual), and I all go out to Modesto from our house an hour away to go look at the car. Test drive went great and since they knew I was coming they already had the car ready and waiting for me up front. The salesman walks away (totally spacing on his name right now) so that me and my mom could talk about if I wanted it and what price we would offer them. Long story short we go in and tell them a price we would pay and the sales guy comes back with a higher number. My mom said no and said we were leaving. The salesman asks what the highest number is that we would go and my mom said $21,500 plus they had to fix the paint scratches on the car. He did not like that number but went to see if it would be approved. Comes back and says "you guys win, we'll take $21,500". So I was happy. I got the car I wanted! By that time though it was already 11:30am and I had to be in Brentwood by 1pm. We told them many many many times that I was on a schedule and they always said okay. So they started printing all the documents for us to sign and I really needed to go. I signed a couple documents and then my mom went to the finance guys office and said "Nikki needs to leave now" and he said okay and that I could sign all the documents later. So I drive off leaving my mom and my boyfriend at the dealership. They finish up everything and my boyfriend takes my car home for me. All and all, I had a good experience. They drove an hour to my house to have my sign documents, and to pick up and drop off my car. And I got the car I wanted at a good price! Even fixed a dent for me for free!! All they had to do with fix the paint chip it already had. (Somehow 3 days after I got it some stupid idiot dented my driver side....I was so pissed!) but now it's all fixed!!! They didn't have to do that but they did so yay!! read more

My experience with this dealership goes back several years to when I purchased my Impreza (the second Subaru we've owned). Since then, I've taken the car in several times for service; and twice for minor repairs. So there have been many opportunities to witness their operations in sales, parts and service. Rarely do I feel compelled to write reviews because I'm not generally impressed to that degree-either positively or negatively. But this is one of those times when I feel the need to give credit where credit is due: these folks take customer service to an entirely new level; beyond what I've experienced at any other car dealership. From the time you are welcomed to sales, service or parts departments, through offer of shuttle, loaner, or waiting in a very comfortable setting with water, coffee & pastries, through professional, friendly and efficient conclusion of business, you just have to be impressed. Generally I choose to wait, since I'm usually not in any hurry. So I've had plenty of opportunity to see interactions between many different representatives and customers. Every single one of those seemed to have a very positive vibe. And every employee there seemed to go out of their way to maintain that vibe. In my experience, that level of customer relations begins a the top; and is continuously promoted from the top. There is no doubt in my mind that unless things change there, my next car will be a Subaru purchased from Modesto Subaru. read more

I have nothing but high praise for Modesto Subaru Service & Parts departments! I own an 11 year old Outback which according to a diagnostic test needed a catalytic converter. I phoned & spoke with Steve Orr at Modesto Subaru & he looked up my VIN # & the Catalytic converter was a recall item & would need to be repaired by an authorized dealer to be covered. I already knew that Modesto Subaru was highly rated having many friends who use them. Still I went to yelp to search & check the comments & ratings for all the Subaru dealers close to Monterey, all the way up the Bay Area as far as Burlingame, Livermore, Central Valley & up to Sacramento. The ONLY dealer that had a high rating & many praise-filled comments was MODESTO SUBARU. Modesto Subaru far exceeded my expectations! While in the waiting room with my dog, employees all petted her, gave her a bowl of water & treats. This impressed me, but not as much as the great ongoing communication from Steve Ford, who had checked me in for my 1:00 appoint. Steve came in to the waiting room every 20-30 minutes to keep each of the customers waiting, apprised of the status of their cars. This was not even to give any of us "bad" news, but to say things such as, 'the new brakes are being put in now & all is going as planned', or, to bring in the piece of interior molding that was being examined to show them & explain to the customer what was being done to fix it. These are not exact statements but an example to show you how they were keeping every one informed. The dealership was very clean, comfortable & nicely decorated. Free coffee & bottled water is in the waiting room area, which is not a dark dreary room, but an open area, bright & cheerful with a large screen TV with remote. Another customer said that in the morning, there was fresh fruit & other snacks for the customers to eat. Later an employee apologized because there were no snacks left to eat. All of the employees, whether they are associated with your being there or not are friendly & make everybody feel important & welcome. The shop was also spotless. Customers can go to a large picture window provided, to watch their car while in for repair or service. However, with the regular updates from Steve, a customer does not need to wonder what is happening because they always know! Steve came to tell me that the oxygen sensor, which normally comes out of the bad catalytic converter to be installed in to the new catalytic converter, was rusted to my converter & could not be removed. Steve said, they did not have one in stock but it would be there the next day. They could have cheated & obtained an aftermarket oxygen sensor that day, but they chose to order an authorized Subaru sensor so the repair would be done correctly & up to Subaru standards! Steve said, we will give you a loaner car at no charge & you can go about your day now if you like, then return tomorrow to get your car. I was on my way with a brand new Impreza long before 3p.m Saturday Steve was off Sat. but had introduced me to Brittany, who would be helping me when I returned to pick up my car. When I arrived Brittany was friendly & professional. She went over what had been done, as well as items recommended by the mechanic. Two of the three items I knew about, so her information was a confirmation of what I had recently learned from a trusted mechanic in Angels Camp when I had my oil changed. I asked Brittany which items were the worst &/or should be done first as they are all expensive repairs. Brittany answered my concerns clearly, & knew what she was talking about, explaining what causes & effects to expect if these items failed before I could take care of them. Much of this I already knew, but it was encouraging to know that she was intelligent & had a clear understanding of more than just reading off a sheet of paper provided by the mechanic. The other positive aspect of this is that it showed me that the employees at this dealership are honest & know what they are talking about. I also purchased some Subaru parts from the Parts Department on Saturday & was very pleased with Felix Andres' help & great customer service. Just as I had been earlier with Steve Orr in this same department. If you are looking for a GOOD Subaru dealership, I can say that Modesto Subaru is one you can trust. I am surprised that Subaru is not on top of other dealers in order to keep their reputation as an automaker high, when they are so poorly rated, including many horror stories from customers. read more
