I politely, without too much eye contact and void of any shadow of entitlement, ordered my dish and stood quietly while it was prepared. She even kind of smiled and inside my heart unicorns pranced. Then when she motioned to me to take my tray, it was totally not what I ordered. I'm a grown woman. I'm from New york city and you know what happens if you can make it there! I've travelled before the internet. I've been arrested. I've climbed volcanos. I fought off packs of dogs in Mexico and monkeys in Thailand. But today, I looked down at my food, up at the porcelain spawn of Satan, sputtered, "but, i thought.. i um.." and then said never mind and walked away and ate my food like a good girl.
