TL;DR Matthew is fantastic! ----- This review is long overdue. I've been coming to visit Matthew at Mojo for over three years, and it's been the best three years of haircuts in my life. I have never been disappointed, and I am so glad I found Matthew and Mojo. Matthew's process is of the highest quality and is very consistent. Each haircut begins with a confirmation of my desired hairstyle. If I have any questions about barber terminology or potential changes, Matthew always explains things clearly and concisely. He is extremely professional while also being super down to earth. His haircuts are incredibly relaxing. So much so that I often find myself falling asleep in his chair. At the end of each haircut, he provides a handheld mirror to review the haircut and also offers product to style in case I am heading out somewhere after. I cannot recommend Matthew enough! Booked with Kyle. Showed him 2 pictures of my previous haircuts. He even showed me some examples. I also gave him some specifics for what I wanted and didn't want. Still didn't turn out anything like what I expected. Seems like he just did whatever he felt like doing. When I asked him to correct it, he said he didn't have enough time. Also when I booked online it said $45 for haircut only. In store it says $50. Then when I handed Kyle $50, he asks if I want change??? Misleading. read more

Flew in and was looking a little ratty. I have been here before so I thought I could drop in and they could accommodate a walk-in, but they were fully booked. But the young man who helped me said I could book for the next day. Well, there was a small communication gap, I thought he said 10 but he did tell me 11, but 10 just stuck in my head. Felt dumb coming in, even dumber because I didn't even know his name! One of the other barbers rebooked me for the next day at 12 with Kyle (the initial barber LOL!). When I arrived, he was just finishing up, and asked what I wanted to do. Told him short, and that he could do whatever he wanted, I just needed to look hip and cool again. We had a great conversation and I even saw the barber, Josh, from my previous cuts. When he turned the chair around, major improvement! Where do I start!! Sharon (@shmo.haircuts) literally made me so sure before even starting. I did the biggest chop ever, and prior to was very nervous. I appreciated the fact that Sharon took the time to go over each look and explain the why or why nots. I appreciated that she gave her expert opinion without being pushy. She showed me options and even did the cut in a way that we could play around with it after. Needless to say Sharon did an AWESOME job. The whole time we were talking and laughing and it never did phase her Can't wait to go back for a touch up. As far as the shop goes...it's definitely a busy shop I see that the barbers have their appointments lined up. One of the other barbers checked to make sure we were helped which was so awesome. I had Alia and I'm glad I did. I booked a straight razor head shave with her and unfortunately i waltzed in with a small gash (that was healing) on the back of my head. I disclosed that to her and she was so gracious and assured me that I had nothing to worry about. All she wanted to make sure was that I'd feel okay. This is the first Yelp review I've submitted in 10 years, but my experience was so disappointing I felt a review was necessary. The positive: Trendy barbershop with efficient system for reservations and check-in. Seemed professional. Street parking only. The negative: The lady who cut my hair did not cut it the way I asked at all! After I sat down in the chair, she asked what I was looking for and I clearly said I wanted to "make a change" and showed her three pictures of a very different haircut (two on the same person from different angles). In her defense, I told her that while I wanted the cut in the pictures, I did want it a bit longer on top. What did I get? EXACTLY the same cut I had before, just a little shorter. Hardly the change I was looking for. She cut the hair carefully, but very slowly. She asked absolutely ZERO questions (no communication at all) during the next 35 minutes it took to cut my hair and cut it with my back to the mirror. As a result, I wasn't able correct things during the cut. When she finally turned the chair to face the mirror, we were at the 45 minute mark (of a 45 minutes scheduled appointment), her next customer was waiting and I didn't feel there was time to fix it. When she realized I wasn't satisfied with the cut, she said I hadn't told her I wanted a major change, which is simply not true. I explicitly said the words "I want a change" and showed pictures of someone with a completely different haircut. To her credit, she offered to not charge me (I paid anyway). Bottom line: The place is probably fine is you're looking for a generic shaved on back and side fade haircut that virtually everyone between the ages on 18 and 45 has had for past 10 years. If you want something different, you may leave disappointed. read more

I've been getting my haircut by Matthew for a couple years now and he is wonderful. Kind, gentle and fast. The state of the barber shop is another thing. There is hair everywhere. EVERYWHERE. I am giving 3 stars because of this. Matthew alone is 5 stars but I have a hard time not running out the door because there is hair stuck to everything. ALIA IS THE BEST I have difficult hair. When it's long it's curly. I have a permanent wave in the front. When it's short it's straight. It grows in 8 different directions. I've never in my life had a barber get it right on the first try. It's always a learning experience for both of us. Then once someone figures it out after at least 2 cuts I stick with them. During Covid I stopped getting my hair cut and it grew to about shoulder length. Which of course inspired me to try a lot of crazy and different styles on the way back down. Somehow Alia is like a mind reader and would take my absurd custom descriptions and nail it. From the very first cut. Modern mullet before everyone was getting them, tapers, fades, everything. I've been going to her for over 3 years now with ridiculous ideas and she just gets it perfect. I showed up at my scheduled time and my barber wasn't there, showed up 10-15min late. Proceeded to tell me his day is slow and he's not busy... u would think he would show up on time if not busy.. He gave me a unsatisfactory cut an rushed me out of his chair b4 my scheduled time was even up.. let him do whatever he wanted with the beard an he made a "chin strap" which I didn't see till I got home.. terrible experience overall, barbers need to step up an take responsibility. I wanted to gift my bf a nice haircut and the social media pages of Mojo, coupled up with the fact that we have passed by for years, had me sold. I attempted to make a reservation online and couldn't. I called, and after speaking with the receptionist, whose attitude wasn't all that pleasant, I was able to book the appt for him. I asked if I could complete payment with her over the phone as I wanted to pay for him; she said "they rather you pay at the time of the haircut " which baffles me cause the website has an option to prepay (granted, the website doesn't seem to work). Maybe this is too old-fashioned, but I remember my elders going to a barbershop and being a whole experience. I subconsciously wanted this for my bf, and didn't consider how times have changed. The haircut he got by Jose looks AMAZING ! My bf couldn't stop complementing how serious Jose took his job and how precise he was. He also noticed how unkempt and dusty the barbershop was; from counters to decorative liquor bottles, there was dust everywhere. Perhaps a little more tlc inside would have encouraged my bf to get a beard trim or enquire more about products etc. This is definitely a huge step up from super cuts and it could be better. read more

After some research, I came across Will here at Mojo. Since my first cut, he's provided consistent, top-notch fades and trims. Due to the pandemic, my wife had been my at-home barber for over a year and let's just say that the outcome was less than optimal. Will has made it so easy to grow out certain areas while cutting others and blending it all together neatly. I'm also not much for chit-chat, so he works like a ninja in near silence getting the job done perfectly every time. I really look forward to my appointments. The shop itself is clean and modern with a touch of old school. Lots of light and high ceilings, good AC, sports playing on the TV and high-end products to help you maintain and style your hair. The only pain is parking but parking is a pain in the ass just about everywhere. I typically try and ride my moped which ensures easy parking instead of circling the block and being late. Observations---there are other barbers here that don't seem to be quite as experienced, precise, even as fast as Will. I've seen a couple of barbers who seem to be winging it, and my wife ended up with mixed results going to whoever was available at the time she needed. If I owned this place, those folks would be closely supervised or not part of my team. Harsh, but I know firsthand just how much it sucks to grow out mistakes. And while the shop does have hand sanitizer out and masks required, I have seen noses out every single time I go. I know masks aren't comfortable, but if you're going to be working that closely with someone, you really need to have yours on properly and make sure that your client does, too. I arrived at 9:15am and had a normal greeting. Mind you, the establishment opened at 9am. I was immediately notified there was no availability and that I needed to make an appointment to be seen at 11:30am by a barber lady. Perplexed by her careless attitude of take it or leave it, I still chose to wait since I had no other choice. I was hopeful an appointment would cancel or maybe other barber would be available to assist me when they were finished with their appointment. But that was not the case. I observed 4 barbers that finished with their appointments and became available and all of them chose to wait 45 minutes to help their next appointment that did not arrive on time. There were certain barbers that came in that went straight the back break room and decided it's best to start working 30 minutes later when their first appointment showed up. I couldn't fathom the thought or idea of why any one of them couldn't not help me with a simple 20 minute fade. The lady who originally signed me in closest to the reception counter could have cut my hair but chose to waste an hour after her appointment had left. It's very disheartening and unfortunate to see such talent go to waste on procrastination, unproductive unprofessional behavior and just plain out laziness. That lack of sense of urgency needs to be addressed. I will never give my business to this barber shop ever again The barber who cut my hair did a great job as most of them do in that establishment. It only took him 30 minutes. I can guarantee other businesses will dominate in the barber industry here due to better business ethic. Wanted to try these guys out. Was sure I booked an appointment online. I understood I was on the waitlist, and it said, they'd let me know if my status changed. It said I was #2. So, I took my time, I went to longs and then home then I quickly ran there (I live nearby. And didn't want to street park). Got there about 5:45p, and one of the barbers saw me, made eye contact, but didn't ask me if I had an appointment... so awkwardly, I sat. I watched others who I assume had appointments get acknowledged. By this time it was already about 6:15p. And I knew they closed at 7p. And the person I was set to see was still in the middle of cutting someone else's hair. So I waited to 6:30p. By that time, I came to realize, that each haircut is about 45 mins and with only about 30 mins til 7 I realized, I had wasted my time. With absolutely no acknowledgement from any barber. And so I walked home. Needless to say, I was very disappointed and saddened that I wasn't acknowledged or notified where my spot was on the list. I understand communication is a two way street, but if you're going to ask for card info to schedule an appointment, I think it would be common courtesy to acknowledge customers that walk into your establishment. I also understand that being on the waitlist doesn't necessarily mean you'll get seen that day or that time. And so, despite my disappointment, and embarrassment.. I want to give a 1 star but I will be fair and give it a 2 star because, somewhere along the lines, maybe I messed up somewhere. But it sure as hell would've been nice to be acknowledged... the vibe seemed great. But, honestly, I think I won't be coming back. read more
