    Handmade tortillas (maíz/corn)
    Cynthia Denice O.

From the Comal to the Corazón -- A Hermana Breakfast Delight I came here with my sister for a sweet sister morning breakfast, and it was such a delight. It had been almost 11 years since our first visit--back before COVID--and I'm so happy to say the food is still just as amazing. I had the huevos a la mexicana (diced onions, tomatoes, and jalapeños), and my sister ordered La Minerva--both were absolutely delicious. The mole is outstanding, rich and deeply flavorful, and the handmade corn tortillas are fresh and comforting. The café de olla is perfectly sweetened, and the horchata agua fresca topped with roasted pepitas is a must. Breakfast plates come with roasted house potatoes, beans topped with cotija cheese, freshly made corn tortillas, and a mini quesadilla--everything feels thoughtful, traditional, and made with care. The ambiance is beautiful--rustic Mexicano with mosaic tile details, warm décor, and Spanish rock playing in the background, which made the experience even better. Everyone was kind, welcoming, and provided great customer service. A special thank you to our server, Cristian, who was attentive and helpful. We learned the restaurant recently reopened after several years of remodeling and permits. There is limited parking in the back, with street parking available nearby. We gladly drove the distance just to eat here, and it was absolutely worth it. So grateful to have Moles La Tía back--this is a wonderful spot rooted in tradition, flavor, and heart. We look forward to returning soon.

You've got to come here when you need your mole fix. And don't forget to pick up some pan dulce down the street at El Gallo bakery.

So happy that Moles La Tia reopened after being closed for so long. This little restaurant is truly a gem in East Los Angeles and one of my family's favorites. I didn't find out until last month that it reopened but glad I was able to come out on a weekday and enjoy breakfast with the family again. It has not lost its touch at all and the food and service delivered yet again.

Service was slow even though the place was not full, the presentation was really beautiful and it was clean and bright inside. But the food didn't have enough spice, I ordered the 3 types of mole and there wasn't much difference between all of them. My dad had the mole chilaquiles, if I ever come back I will have that, his had more flavor.

Busy place that recently reopened.Modern decor with a positive ambiance. The service can be better. They forgot a few items. Lack of communication between employees. We wanted their horchata but of course it wasn't ready.Let's get to the good. I ordered eggs and pork rinds which were really good. Not the biggest portions but worth the price. Also tried their red chilaquiles with steak and no complaints. Also loved their coffee. Overall a good experience. Hopefully they figure out the kinks on our next visit.

My mom was very excited to hear this place reopened, so we went today to get some good food. Service was good, even though they were busy for Sunday, we were able to get seated in no time and the waitress' attention to us was about normal. I love the tiles on the wall and the music they play. Makes the authentic and delicious food even better. My favorite thing today (everything was great though) was the pistachio flan because it was so unique. Parking is limited so just be aware of that if you're going to make a trip out, but of course I think it is worth it.

My husband & I were so happy when we found out it reopened! We used to come here regularly before the pandemic & afterwards, we'd occasionally drive by with hope it would reopen. It seems like they're still transitioning or just running on Mexican time (I can relate). We arrived at 8a and no servers or cooks were here. One of the workers told us that no one had arrived yet so we left & as we were exiting ABC news arrived as well. We returned 20 minutes later & business as usual. Service was great & chilaquiles are still delicious. My only disappointment was the chilaquiles plate no longer comes with a mini quesadilla which was my favorite. The owner said they decided to remove it from this plate because it didn't make sense to have tortilla with tortilla, but it's included with the other plates or you can order separately. The place looks great & they remodeled the bathrooms which look beautiful. Can't wait to come back!

The food was really delicious and the services was great! I was so happy to see it open again it was just as good as I remembered The homage tortillas are also the perfect addition we had to get two baskets of them I also love the new wall and the changes they've made it is a really nice atmosphere

Tricolores enchiladas, chilaquiles, flautas, horchata great food!!!

Finally this spot is open again and I had the opportunity to go and have some breakfast. I ordered the pipian chilaquiles w/asada & egg. Cafe de olla and horchata. The chilaquiles came with beans, potatoes and crema. They charge extra for the asada and egg but it's worth paying the extra. I love Pipian so the chilaquiles were delicious. The Horchata taste the same from 10yrs ago it was delicious 10/10. Cafe de olla was also 10/10. The service was great they were polite and very welcoming. Parking (street) is somewhat difficult in this area, I really do not know if there is parking in the back. My experience was lovely and I hope to be back soon.

Queso fundido with mushrooms. I loved it! I think it was my favorite.

I have been a repeat customer back when the original restaurant and there have been changes but it is still a very good restaurant with delicious food.

La Tia is back!!! This super popular and loved restaurant in Old Maravilla has returned from a much too long hiatus. Everything is still just as delicious and beautiful. Come and visit your Tia!

We came on a Sunday morning. We were welcomed into a natural lit room with colorful seating and muted tones through out making you feel like you are eating at your tias house. I came across this restaurant on Tik tok announcing their reopening. There was plenty of seating. Service was kind and slow, which adds to the small business feel. The mole chilaquiles were delicious and plentiful! I recommend trying it along with their chipotle chilaquiles. The cafe de olla needs more work. It had a hint of being burnt. With milk, it toned down the flavor of being burnt. I would have given it a 5 if the coffee was better prepared.

    Alejandra A.

Amazing food, wait was a little long but they were busy! Waiter was attentive. Food was delicious, fresh and tasty! Loved their cafe de olla! Definitely recommend! Amazing music too!

    Are they open yet?? 🥹

    Yes!

    Are they permanently closed?

I don't believe they will reopen. The remodeling sign has been up too long. No sign of any remodeling. Unfortunately we lost a good restaurant in East Los Angeles.

Are they open now? I know they were closed down for renovation?

Nope. Just checked yesterday their still closed.

Is this place still open? I called and drove by looks closed.

    They are remodeling.

Do they have good cafe de olla here?

Yes, I've tried other places and hands down this place has been the best.

    Is the remodeling over?

    Not yet.

Do they put lard in their beans?

No they don't. They serve peruano beans. Not good at all. 👎🏼

    What's the parking like?

Like any restaurants they have their busy times like Sunday mornings here are bad for parking. They have a tiny little parking lot in the back but only fits around 4-5 cars.

Has anybody hired them to cater an event? If so what was your experience? Thank you!

I've hired them twice and everyone was every helpful and professional. The menu options for catering are great for most events and they are always very happy to make adjustments to meet your expectations.

The menu is quite simple, but beware that no prices are listed on the main menu, but they are on the paper menus. They accept Apple Pay/credit cards. I ordered the asada burrito and the pollo caramelo and added the grilled poblano (as recommended on Yelp!). The tortillas were the true stars -- soft, nice chew, with a buttery mouth feel (probably lard). The fillings were just ok. The inside reminded me of a Taco Bell 7 layer burrito -- a lot going on but all the flavors kinda blend together. I (incorrectly) thought the beans were refried, but they are not. Whatever is going on inside, I didn't find much structure. The burrito was the best. The caramelo was a lazily folded burrito. I read that it was like a quesadilla, but I couldn't disagree more. I would skip this next time. I spent $25 and it was a lot of food, but I wasn't impressed, especially given the hype and the fact that LA should really be the pinnacle of Mexican food. Not sure if I'll make a second trip here.

Now when you pull up originally you might think, "am I in the right place" but once you park and get into the courtyard, it is LOVELY! Amazing ambience! There is a bocce set up, string lights. It is a little slice of oasis in the middle of the fashion district. The restaurant itself - beautiful. I couldn't ask for more. Absolutely perfect in my book. Beautiful plants hanging, perfect Spanish music in the background (any place playing Natalia LaFourcade is a win). The drinks were great! I had the jungle bird which was fun. Food was so good too. The whipped beans are the star! We had the guacamole which was tasty, great tostadas with it. The arepas were good but the pork belly was a little too fatty (I know pork belly is always fatty) to the point the fat muted the flavored for the arepa a bit, but still delicious. The empanadas were great and as someone who lived in South America and ate empanadas every day, these really took me back to my Paraguay days. The squash blossoms were light and perfectly fried. Unfortunately my friends had gone to Funke the night before so they were comparing the squash blossoms and Funke won out, but they still liked Dama's! Small plates were enough for the 3 of us. The service was quick and attentive. Parking was easy for us. I will definitely be back!

The staff are lovely humans who really seem to care about their customers. We have some faves on the menu. The bean dip is fabulous and I'm addicted to the baby gem salad. They have recently amped up the filling in the delicious crispy squash blossoms and I love the acidity and heat. The fish is also a hit in my books. One dish that doesn't work for me is the lamb chops, which is a shame since it's my favorite protein. I've ordered them multiple times with clear instructions on temperature and have found them overcooked and tough. The beef tostada was just ok. Whilst I loved the pickled veg on the side, the beef was underseasoned. It wasn't bad - just not up to the standard of other dishes. The vibe in the place is welcoming and the restaurant is nicely appointed. We will continue to be regulars and it's really worth trying if you haven't been yet.

I browsed the menu and had a really hard time deciding, but ended up on the cauliflower rajas taco, the crispy shrimp taco & the vegan Korean BBQ taco. The waiter recommended the crispy shrimp taco, but I actually enjoyed the vegetarian tacos more. I love cauliflower and poblano so that taco was a great starter. So much flavor and a variety of textures. The tortillas were super flavorful too. The potato taquitos came next and I am actually obsessed. The outside was perfectly crispy, the interior was soft, flavorful & cheesy. The sauce complimented it perfectly. I can not recommend them enough. The crispy shrimp taco was really good, but I also tried a crispy fish taco and would honestly get that over the shrimp. I think there was mango or something in the coleslaw of the fish taco because it had a really nice fresh flavor to it. Last, I had the vegan Korean BBQ taco. The mushroom shreds & the flavor were just perfect. Again, as a pescatarian I have really never had Korean BBQ because it's so heavily meat focused. I truly loved this taco.
