I found Renea online & met with her a few days later in our home. I knew by the end of our meeting that she was who I wanted beside me as I labored and gave birth. On the day I went into labor we were in constant communication via text. Once active labor began she came over to my home (with all of her essential oils!) and worked through the contractions with me. She was a strong supporter for me during this intense time! She came with us to the hospital and was right by my side as I delivered my son. We hired her again for our second-born son's delivery and she was with me, again, during active labor and at the hospital. We also saw her for a postpartum visit after each delivery. It's been 2 years since we first hired her and we are still friends. I text her randomly with a question and she is quick to reply! I've said this before and i'll say it again--i wouldn't want to birth my babies without Renea by my side!

She arrived before my midwife & was just there for my general support, whether emotionally or physically! She gave me words of advice during my labor in such a loving comforting way. She reassured me as things progressed & helped so much physically! I had terrible low back & hip pain so she was constantly giving me hip compressions which is a very physically demanding thing to do! & she did this for hours just to help me stay comfortable and get through the contractions. Another plus is that she does a few prenatal appts too! So she isn't just a day of type of gal. Such an amazing experience!! She is so selfless & so loving! I am so glad we found her and I can't wait to be pregnant again so that we can have her attend our next birth!!

Approximately six years ago, I attended a birth in which a beautiful spirit, Chula Doula,…read morebrightened and heightened the birth experience with her loving mannerisms and charm. I immediately was drawn to her gentle ways of being, moving, and methods of sharing birthing knowledge. Her words embraced my heart and I immediately knew that she was a gifted doula. In time, I discovered that Chula Doula was not an ordinary doula, no; she was a compassionate body and sexual healer, a radical reproductive health educator, a pregnancy masseuse, an herbalist, and an expert birth worker. Since then, I have attended numerous of Chula Doula's workshops on reproductive health. She provides a comfortable and radical space to discuss the reproductive anatomy, self-examination, and sexual pleasure in ways never taught or discussed with me before by gynecologists and others in the health field. Through her teachings, I became visibly acquainted with my internal reproductive system. Who would have known? I now embrace the Power of my vagina. Aside from building a relationship with Chula Doula through her community involvements in creating spaces to explore and discuss reproductive health in which I support 100%, I outreached to her for birthing guidance a few years ago. I was 34 and pregnant at the time with my second child after almost 15 years (son's age). I had no clue to what my birthing options really where or the manner on how to approach these options. I too was clueless on the various healthy prenatal options like vitamins, iron and calcium sources, and other supplements that were available to me which aligned with my philosophical dietary patterns. She welcomed all of my questions via phone, text, email, Facebook, and person-to-person contact. Chula Doula really nurtured my pregnancy, my womb, my body (prenatal massage and body care), my spirit, and my mothering abilities with her positive outlook and expert advice. What made and makes Chula Doula shine and unique is that she too is an artist, which I forgot to mention above. After my birth, like a surgeon, she arrived with an icebox to transport the placenta to her home kitchen where she first created several placental art prints, then separated the amniotic sac and the umbilical cord from the placenta to prepare for encapsulation, tincture medicine, and birthing memorabilia. I was gifted with placental art, postnatal placental pills, rubbing amniotic sac tincture, and a beautiful dried umbilical cord shaped into a heart. From time to time (mostly in moments of despair and/or anxiety), I take these pills and my goodness...magic. Real medicine. I have shared much and tried to broaden my experiences working with Chula Doula and in all honesty, every time we come into contact, this beautiful spirit enlightens me with so much knowledge! Most recently, I learned how intricate the relationship between menstrual blood and land is and how this connection brings us closer to each other through blood extractions and water. I sincerely am humbled and grateful for her friendship and continual support, as I have still so much to learn about my body.

I took a childbirth class online with Flor. Second…read morepregnancy, previously took a hospital class, but I really wanted a natural birth this time, and had not felt prepared for that with my last class. The hospital class prepared me for interventions to expect, and basically how to be a good patient. Flor not only covered the physical aspects of birth (anatomy, hormones, what moves how and when/where, etc) but also your options and what to expect with those interventions. She is honest, clear, and explains things in a way that truly helps you understand what these interventions entail. Another very valuable component of this class is the interventions she teaches you - tools to advocate for yourself, how your partner can best support you, and many different ways to deal with the process of labor. The demonstrations of positions were so helpful! My first birth I wanted to go natural, but ended up saying yes to interventions that I felt contributed to a rocky start to breastfeeding and my baby having to be readmitted for hyperbilirubinemia. Thanks to this course I felt SO PREPARED. My biggest fear was that I wouldn't be able deal with the pain and say yes to interventions I didn't want and be disappointed. I went into labor naturally, delivered at a hospital and had a physiological, unmedicated birth of a healthy 8lb 10oz baby with no complications. My partner and I felt so united and prepared. We advocated for our birth plan and had the birth we had hoped for!! If you are looking for a birth class that is inclusive, honest, and truly prepares you to plan for the birth you want, TAKE THIS CLASS. I cannot recommend enough!! I'm an RN and truly learned so much through this class and process and have so much respect for the work Flor is doing to help women have the birth they hope for. Hospitals are for sick people and emergencies, and birth is not an illness. Flor truly honors the process for the miracle it is, and it shows in her work, website, personality and this class. Thank you Flor. For giving us the essential tools to have the birth we had hoped for.

I became semi-obsessed with natural birth during my pregnancy. I watched documentaries, read six books, took a Bradley Method course with my husband. The best thing I did to accomplish my goal of achieving the birth of my dreams was to hire a doula. No, the best thing I did to accomplish my goal was to hire Flor. She was incredible. I tried giving up multiple times. Each time, I looked at Flor and she smiled and told me I could do it. I was going on my second day in labor and Flor was with me every step of the way. She was replying to my text messages at 2:00 in the morning when my early labor stalled, she used a rebozo to help me push my baby out, Flor gave me essential oils during contractionns, she helped my husband help me through the difficult parts. She was amazing. They say moms hire doulas for the first born and dads hire doulas for the second. This couldn't be more true. The birth of my son will be forever engraved on my memory and my heart and Flor will be a permanent part of our birth story. We are so lucky to have met such a strong, special person. Flor is truly inspiring.
