Decided to try moms house one weekend and I am glad I tried it out because this became one of my favorite korean restaurants to eat. Went a bit early so I was the only one there to eat, but there were a lot of tables for big or small groups. They have a whole menu on the wall so you can easily choose what you want. Seems to be a family run restaurant and everything comes out pretty quickly. Ordered a few things and honestly everything was delicious Recommended Items - pork with lettuce wrap: 8.5/10 - really delicious and comes with a bowl of rice as well - kimchi fried rice: 8.2/10 reminds me of the young days when my mom made fried rice on a summer night. - potato pancake: 8.2/10 Left no leftovers during my visit and definitely will be back to order some more pork. I learned that you can judge a Korean restaurant based off their kimchi and theirs is legit. The bone broth soup is only $12 after tax!! It's kind of a no frills spot but the food is def good quality, like the home cooking from your Korean friends mom. The broth was rich and flavorful and the beef slices were nice and tender. I knew the food was gonna be solid when I saw the grandma working back in the kitchen, this place exceeded all expectations. read more

Popped in here on a New Year's Day for dinner. Place is an unassuming hole in the wall. The lady working reminds me of a typical Asian mom, very direct / blunt but also caring. Tried the army soup. Tried their cheapest $7.99 sulungtang ( beef soup) in the menu. We only ordered 2 sulungtang so they only gave us 2 ban chan(side dishes)- kimchi and radishes . We saw other customers got 4 ban chan(side dishes) because they ordered different dishes. I was able to ask more kimchi after I finished it. For $7.99, I don't complain the quality of beef slices are not tender enough, and the soup was delicious. Kimchi and radishes tasted good as well. It's pretty worth it since all other restaurants sell sulungtang for $13.5 and up. I will come back for their cheap sulungtang ! read more

I have to start this review by saying they have the BEST kimchi in town! It could be the best kimchi I have eaten in my life, and I've eaten tons of kimchi in my lifetime. Soondae soup - has a good amount of soondae + tripe + intestines. If you're a fan of those types of innards, you'll love this soup. Sauteed kimchi and sliced pork - OMG this was so good! Super duper tasty! Frozen pollack stew - the broth was very flavorful with a good amount of fish. side dish - there were a few side dishes served... kimchi, bean sprouts, radish kimchi, steamed egg, and fish cake. Honestly just had the worst experience here just now, there is a Korean waitress that always, always ask for tips. A lady with a red bob, last time we went to this place with my mother she ended up tipping the only change in cash we had and the red head Korean lady ended up tossing the change onto the table claiming "she's not poor enough to accept this". Today we came in for another try, but again. I only carry card and not cash and this lady isn't satisfied with measly change so she ends up chasing us outside the store and starts saying she doesn't want us back. Crazy. read more

Our group ordered sullongtang (bone marrow soup) and beef and vegetable soup. Soup was ok, a bit on the thin side. Waitress gave us a poached egg appetizer as a service item, which was nice. Both were good, not great. It served purpose of sating late night hunger after a long flight. Side dish banchans were ok. I usually order the kimchi jjigae with extra rice cake () and it hits the spot. Just ordered it right now as a matter of fact. The lady who works there is so sweet on the phone. We stumbled upon this spot while looking for a place to eat dinner. We went around 7pm, and I ordered the katsu but she said they wouldn't be able to make it. Keep in mind this place is 24/7 and they just said no because they didn't want to make it when it was "late" at night. So I ended up ordering the soondae gook, but the soondae in it was bad. She said she'll replace it with something else but was annoyed about it and NEVER said sorry once. I also saw that they sell rice cake so I asked oma how spicey it was & she said it wasn't spicey @ all so I asked if she could make it real spicey & she said 'yes'. At the price, 5.99, you can't find this quality anywhere else in LA. They server doesn't come to you as often as you would like, or used to at other restaurants. When a friend mentioned that there was a place in ktown with sul lung tang for only $4, I was a bit skeptical that such a place existed. I also wondered what kind of sul lung tang you could get for so cheap. But then all my curiosities were answered after finding this place and experiencing it for myself. Side dishes - We got 3 tonight: an egg one, kkakdugi, and cabbage kimchi. Kkakdugi, which is one of my favorites, was actually pretty good... it had the right amount of crunch and wasn't too sour. The other two were good too and we got plenty of refills. Sul lung tang - When the bowl first came out, it looked a little small, but at the end of the meal I was actually quite satisfied. The broth was nice and milky, and I didn't have to add much salt. There were also a good amount of noodles and meat pieces, I just wish the meat was a little more tender. But this was pretty decent for $3.99. It might not be the best sul lung tang, but it definitely hits the spot and good for late night eating. Other Pros: -parking lot with no valet -open 24 hours If you can't read Korean, look for a red sign. I'll have to try the yuk gae jang next time :) read more

VISIT ONE it's extremely hard to order something different because i so love the KIM CHI FRIED RICE. but i made myself order the BIBIMBAP. then my order came and it wasn't BIBIMBAP at all, it was BEEF AND ONIONS over rice! my bad for asking questions about the beef menu picture with an obvious language barrier. so i ate it, figuratively and literally. i never order cheap beef dishes at asian restaurants because you get the CURLY PIECES OF MEAT with FAT GLOBULES on the edges, and that's what this was, although it was considerably LESS GLOBULAR than i expected. flavor was ok but i couldn't hack the texture. i didn't finish it and would not recommend. i like my meat pristine. VISIT TWO the next day came back and i got the BIBIMBAP. i didn't expect the rice to come on its own, the rest in a large stainless mixing bowl. i mixed it all up with the sauce and it was good but not stellar. what makes bibimbap great to me is when the beef is savory with seasoning, the egg yolk is runny, and the ratio of fatty flavor to non-fatty kim chis hits a balance. there was too much lettuce, not enough yolk, more like a crisp salad. i give it an average rating. i spied a SAUSAGE STEW being heated at another table. it looked bubbly, savory, thick with sausage. i couldn't pronounce the Korean name of it, even after hearing it thrice, but i'm told it's called SOLDIER STEW. maybe i'll get it the time after next... i gotta have the KIM CHI FRIED RICE soon! happy Yelping and here's to tasting life! read more

Hands down the CHEAPEST sullungtang you'll find in ktown. $4/bowl! Such a good run for your buck. I had my reservations before going here too, (just because it's so cheap), but it was pretty solid. Nothing shady about it, and tummy felt fine. They slack on the banchan (side dishes) though. But what can you expect when you're selling food for cheappp, rah? I always like my lettuce wraps with one piece of meat, a small pea size of some bean paste, kimchi and garlic. and OM NOM NOM! DELICIOUS! Its fairly pricey, 12.99? But it definitely fills you up! I walk out a happy camper. Service here is always a hit or miss, youll have a good day or a bad day. Mostly, i've been getting bad services. Usually, korean places gives you the side at least 5 minutes once you're seated right? Not with moms house, you get your sides once you get your food... and that can take a while... like seriously...a while... and they get all picky when you finish the sides in under a minute. Been here for several times, and recently became my only reason for coming to K-Town. Everything here is perfect and the server always have the best service. It's safe to say they have the best kimchi in Los Angeles, and anything on the menu is so good, so basically you don't even need to read the menu closely to make a decision. Everything is amazing. I would say the only problem here is that the parking spots are pretty limited because it's located in a very small plaza, but it's pretty common for most places here. My family and I have been customers for over 2 decades. However, I came to this restaurant on Friday and noticed that the kitchen looked very dirty. I ordered fish, but the fish was smelling really bad, and almost had a putrid smell. In my mind, I was thinking that the smell was normal. I had some of the worst food poisoning I have ever gotten from eating at this place and even ended up at Urgent Care. My family also got sick, but there symptoms weren't as severe as mine.
