This is a pretty solid place to get homemade Vietnamese food. I wouldn't say it was traditional, but more homemade American style Vietnamese food. I got the broken rice dish with the beef. It was pretty tasty. The egg was cooked properly on top. I wish there was the traditional soufflé, but I didn't see it on the menu. My daughter got the garlic noodles with the beef. Pho is such a comfort food, I can eat it winter, spring, summer and fall! Now we all know not all Pho tastes the same. With high reviews I decided to try Mom's Pho and Grill. I arrived not soon after they opened during a week day. I was the only customer there my whole visit. Customer was just ok. It was just an observation.. but I have to mention.. a Uber driver female came to pick up a order, she asked several times if she could use the restroom, she was ignored. Finally she was told it was being cleaned.... It was not! The women was actually pretty rude to the Uber driver for no reason at all. I have to take away a star for that reason alone. I ordered my go to rare steak pho, springs rolls and took a banh mi sandwich to go. Pho was good, still not the best I had but good. I was told by the owner, they do not use MSG, which of course is healthier, but gives it a different kind of flavor. My meat came already cooked cooked, no rare part at all. Nice thicker size pieces. We stopped by Mom's pho for a quick lunch and what a delightful surprise, I found my new favorite pho spot! It wasn't busy when we walked in, we were sat right away, and our food came out fairly quick. I am not a huge pho lover but this place has changed my mind. The broth is full of flavor, meat is not chewy or tough. Rice noodles also have a well balanced flavor (some other places I have tried, there can be a specific after taste that I'm not super fond of). I have since come back a few times now and the great quality has remained consistent. The woman who has served us each time was so sweet, friendly, and attentive. We've been to several pho place in San Diego and this place skim on their meat the most. for a Large soup, I only had 3-4 thin pieces of meat and rest were noodles. Broth... oh no... this isn't it. Any other SD Foodies groupies? Somehow, this spot has come up numerous times in that Facebook group- to the point where I wasn't sure if it was spamming or actually legit. Can confirm, it's legit. I rarely find myself in Tierrasanta but it was such an easy drive to get here. The parking lot is huge and not busy, so it's easy to pop in and out for take out or to eat in. I ordered a regular pho with meatballs, half order of the pork egg rolls (3 pieces) and a broken rice and chicken plate. Everything was absolutely delicious! It felt very clean and so comforting. Pho broth was delicious and with to go, they provided all the add ins that were very nicely packaged. Same went for the egg rolls. The broken rice was also a huge portion with plenty of chicken and I loved the salad it came with. Everything was delicious and a good price. I came here since it was highly recommended for being authentic Northern Vietnamese food, but the menu was pretty typical for any pho restaurant. The food is decent, we ordered to-go the Shrimp and Pork Eggrolls, Chicken Pho, and the Shaken Beef with Garlic Noodles. Eggrolls were decent, crispy, not too oily, and came with Romain lettuce and fish sauce (standard). The Chicken Pho was a bit disappointing because the meat was really tough to chew, pretty overcooked. We were delighted to find Vietnamese food that is just as authentic as you would on Convoy, or City Heights, in Tierra Santa of all places! A very nice Vietnamese couple has opened this lovely casual dining location. We ordered: 1. Shaken beef with egg noodle: Tender chunks of beef, perfectly seasoned, a serving of thin egg noodles, stir fried perfectly with a light crispiness, and a dressed, tossed salad- a perfect dinner combo. I am picky with my noodles, but these were absolutely a rare find to have old school noodles like I grew up eating. I really enjoyed these freshly cooked noodles! Far too often, restaurants serve thicker, gummier, soggy noodles that have probably been sitting in a warming tray too long. Not here! 2. Filet Mignon Pho- the broth is lighter, clearer and more delicate than the typical over-salted, over-sweetened broths at other places. We enjoyed dipping the filet mignon in a variety of table condiments, but I liked the thick house made chili paste with seeds, best. Personally, I prefer more heat, but the flavor was great. Service was very fast and attentive. Plenty of parking in this strip mall. The owner herself ran the register and helped bus the tables, while still socializing with guests who appeared to be regulars. She spent quite a lot of time discussing the broth style and subtleties with us. She taught me about dried peanut worms which are commonly used in Vietnam to make pho a little richer and sweeter. We usually head to City Heights or Miramar for pho, but since it was already late on a Sunday evening, we decided to give this place in Tierrasanta a try. We definitely weren't disappointed!
