We came here with our daughter, while we were in town for a visit and we were pleasantly surprised. The staff is very inviting and helpful. Once you get past the tables being as sticky as fly paper, it only gets better. We started off with beef Bulgogi and chicken satay as appetizers and they were both delicious. The bulgogi comes with crying tiger sauce. My wife ordered the chicken pad Thai, my daughter got a fresh roll and Tom khaki and I ordered the Thai fried rice with crispy chicken. Had a great meal tonight at Mom Siam on Cary Street. No wait at 6:30 on a Friday night. Very friendly and attentive staff. We ordered the chicken satay, fresh rolls with tofu and steamed Siam dumplings for the table. Apps came out in less than 10 mins from ordering, piping hot and delicious!!! When ordering entrees our waitress shared a recommendation, the curry rolls, and they were out of this world delicious! Served with a sweet plum dipping sauce that we wanted to buy!! We also ordered the Phuket Noodles and Rama Stir Fry- again service was so fast- meals were fresh, hot and unbelievably yummy! FIRST AND LAST VISIT!! Our booth was the most uncomfortable seating I have ever experienced in a restaurant. Brutal. The wood plank seats are so narrow they end 1/4 down the thigh- so the whole experience is also an ab workout to balance yourself. So this also makes the table kind of far away from the person. The pad Thai plates are so enormous they took up the entire (small) table for 4. Very awkward. I ordered a cup of soup and chicken lettuce wraps, and 2 small carafes of sake. Plus an order of fried rice to take home. Soup was fine. Chicken larb lettuce wraps were just OK. Half of it was raw onion wedges. Not much flavor otherwise. A trusted Carytown spot for Thai! While service can sometimes be spotty/a bit slow, the food and prices are awesome! They've very recently updated their menu so I'm not sure if it's the same, but happy hour deals were the move! I believe it was $5 cocktails and both the mojito & Moscow mule were strong yet tasty. The mussels were also pretty good, a bit brinier than the mussels I'm more used to, but I liked it! The shining star was the Kao Soi Kai, though. I told the waiter I wanted a yummy noodle dish but with a twist & asked for his recommendation. He responded by asking if I liked curry, and when I replied yes, he explained that the Kao Soi Kai is kind of like the happy child of ramen & curry. It's amazing! You get both crispy and cooked noodles, as well as the delicious yellow curry-style sauce. I like mine with chicken as the protein but I'm sure they're all amazing! As a Thai food enthusiast, I can truly say this is some of the best Thai food I've ever had. The food was so flavorful and absolutely delish. Went on a Friday without a reservation with a group of 4 and had to wait a little for a table, but the wait wasn't long at all and Mom's Siam is located on a great street to walk around. Picture this it's 8pm on a Saturday and I'm crazy hungry. The original restaurant we wanted to dine in had a ridiculous wait time so we decided to stroll down the street a few blocks until the smells coming outta Momsiam caught our attention. There were folks on the patio and tons of people inside enjoying dinner, getting cozy and chugging back drinks. The vibe was insane and COVID safe!! If there was an award for safest indoor dining Momsiam would win it, hands down! They have sanitizer at the hostess area, require mask for entry, they take temperature checks and have plexiglass partitions between each table. I loved it!! It'll The menu had lots of enticing options and the a great drink selection was Uh-MazingIng! I had a spicy margarita that was delicious and the little flower inside was a nice touch! My husband ordered Phuket with Duck and I decided on shrimp pad Thai!! Our waitress really sold us on the fried deviled eggs as an appetizer and they were delicious. Hard boiled eggs that are deep fried with a sweet sauce. It was such a unique dish!! When our food arrived we were met with mixed results! My husband said"this roasted Duck is one of the best I've ever had" my pad Thai on the other hand was not good. It tasted like the pan it was cooked in there was not a single ounce of flavor. So how do I rate this place overall??!! I think Momsiam checks all the boxes in the cool category. They attract all kinds of different crowds of people. The patio is spacious and lends itself to great people watching. The booths are warm and vibrant. The jury is still out on the food. How is possible to have some of the best duck in your life and the some of the worst pad Thai you've ever tasted in the same sitting? There are many Thai restaurants in Richmond. This one is a solid player in the mix. Located pretty much across the street from the Byrd Theater, it is a good spot for a pre-show meal. I have been here twice on dates and even though the dates sucked, the food was bomb! The atmosphere was always so warm and inviting whenever I went. My servers were nice and attentive to our needs. Even the bathrooms were tidy and clean, plus they had warmers in them so you would not get cold. I always get the garlic and broccoli stir fry for my entree and gyoza for my appetizer and have NEVER been disappointed. l haven't tried their drinks yet but I look forward to doing so. read more

Mom's Siam is in the heart of Carytown and has a nice patio overseeing the street. I had mixed feeling towards the quality of the food and service we received. Pros: - Portions are huge. My boyfriend and I shared the Green Curry and it was definitely enough food. - The Thai hot is actually hot and lovely. Most often the hot option is not even mild, but at Mom's Siam they know how to do it right. Cons: - The summer fresh rolls were the most disappointing; definitely not fresh! only had tofu and lettuce stuffed in them, looked like they had been refrigerated for days, and fell apart in a matter of seconds. My friend ordered the Rama stir fry I believe that came in a peanut sauce which she really enjoyed. The food I received portion was really small for the pricing as I was still hungry afterwards. The taste was okay, I wasn't blown away by it. I got level one spice which i feel like made it taste a little better. I wasn't very impressed unfortunately. This is my go-to spot to take visitors who like Thai food. Located right in Carytown this restaurant has a fun covered outdoor seating area as well as indoor seating. There is definitely a 'local/hole in the wall' style feel. We were surprised to find they still had Happy Hour even though it was a Saturday. The HH deals included a list of cocktails that were $5- I ordered a mojito and was very happy with it! The staff was extremely attentive and knowledgeable and the food came out quickly. I LOVE their green curry-I have eaten here a number of times and haven't wanted to ordered anything else because I enjoy this dish so much. It's a great portion with just the right amount of spice. I actually took some time to read other reviews before writing this one cause I was and remain shocked that this place doesn't have a higher overall Yelp rating. I had dinner here yesterday on the quaint patio and instantly felt as if I were back in my hometown (Oakland California) eating in Berkeley. There was just a real chill inclusive vibe to this joint... made me feel as if I had smoked a joint cause it was so chill. There was a guy at a table next to me singing and chatting with a staff member about his time living in Thailand, a awesome two mom family, some kinda cool dudes sitting taking in the sights (it's that Drake time where people start wearing less and going out more) and then me and my love, who met me there on his motorcycle. The nostalgia!!! So I'll admit, this had me in an excellent space. We ordered the veggie gyoza, I had drunken noodles with tofu and he had a veggie tofu rice meal, with drink of course. (They have happy hour- it's decent pricing too!) The food was fresh and tasty!!! Like I didn't even take any home so just trust me and go here. Bottom Line: Seemingly a great Thai restaurant nestled on a popular street, however, not so happy with the quality of the dishes. May return again, but not for these dishes/proteins. Also long wait due to possible understaffing Food: we wanted to split an appetizer and noodle dish, but we're sadly unhappy with both options we chose. - Fresh Spring Rolls with Shrimp: I have made these at home and each time have always made them better than what Mom's Siam offered. Poorly wrapped and only two shrimp per roll, we weren't satisfied at all with this appetizer. Highly do not recommend. Maybe go with the chicken satay which the waiter said was not as good as their fresh spring rolls... - Tofu Pad See Ew: A hit and a miss together: noodles and sauce were fantastic. Perfectly cooked and well portioned, however, the tofu was terribly cooked (and over cooked), chewy and difficult to eat. Would recommend any other protein. Service: While they tried hard to accommodate with good service, they seemed understaffed and we had to wait a long time just to get my check and pay. The waiter walked my credit card around with him to 2 other tables before going back to charge it. Final thoughts: not my favorite Thai spot for both the food and the service. I'm so surprised to see this restaurant's rating at 3.5. We had a great experience - even on a sunny Saturday afternoon when Carytown was packed! We were seated immediately and the staff checked in on us several times throughout the meal. All the food was flavorful and somehow came out within a handful of minutes. The tofu bites were fried in very interesting batter. They were bland and would have tasted much better if the tofu was first marinated or soaked in some good Thai sauce before battering and frying.
