Marimekko is the most famous fashion brand in Finland, which is hard to find around the Seattle…read morearea, so I had to visit a store while in the area. Duh. It was fabulous.
I visited the Marimekko store in the city center of Helsinki, which was near where I was staying and the place was busy. But know that there are plenty of other Marimekko locations throughout Helsinki and the Nordic area, just in case you're looking for particular items that may have sold out at this particular store.
That was the case for me during my visit. I wanted to get a green and baby pink flower bag and the size I was originally looking for had sold out in store, but I was able to get the mini version, which turned out to be a better fit for me anyway since I have so many bags that I like to change out. What they have on display is truly just for display as they have others in stock that they get out when you want to purchase a bag, so you're getting a new one that hasn't been out on display.
In addition to their bags, they have apparel and some home items in their famous, colorful prints. It was nice to see Marimekko products in person and I can see why people are fans. Everything brings a smile to your face with their colorful and playful patterns! The staff were also very friendly and helpful, and thoroughly explained to me how to get taxes reimbursed at the airport as a foreign traveler. Glad to now be a Marimekko shopper.
