Just switched from Moneris to Square and was hit with a $250 early termination fee. Apparently you have to read the very very fine print which states that all new accounts have a three year contract - this wasn't on the initial application nor was it stated to us by the salesperson. You honestly have to click on a link and read through the terms and conditions until you get to a subsection with a specific clause to find out this information. Obviously, we were extremely disappointed to pay the fee but we were even more confident that we made the decision to switch to Square. The customer service at Moneris is hit or miss. I agree with prior reviews except I got hit for much more. I signed up with Moneris through a recommendation from my bank Harris after I got ripped off from another credit card processor and I clearly stated I did not want to be locked into a contract. The sales rep stated no problem if you want out you are out. Well 4 months later they were not saving me anything and were charging me over 2% on my sales. My company does high volume and this was a substantial amount. I started using a new company and never thought twice about it until a few months later I noticed Moneris was charging my bank account $40 a month. I called to cancel and immediately received an email stating they were going to debit almost $6000 from my account for early termination. I asked where the 3 year clause was and they directed me to the fine print that stated "Subject to terms and conditions on our web site". REALLY!!!! When I complained I said well when I read the web site I read it said if I terminate I get all money back that were charged for fees! The rep barely knew how to respond and that's when I said "Yeah, you see how stupid that is" Like stated earlier by another yelper the contract does not state 3 years any where. I contacted my attorney and he said this is a legal business practice now a days even though you are signing a written contract. BTW they did debit the $6000 from my account and it took 2 months to get it back and had to switch back to their processing. Then they lowered my rate to 1.35% on transactions so they can keep me once my contract is up. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN....... Why did I not get this rate up front with the amount of sales I do? This is a credit card processing company which claims to support charities and they do a great job of saying why accepting credit cards is good for your charity. What they don't do is reduce their rates, or eliminate fees altogether for 501c3 charities. Fail. read more

I am writing this complaint concerning Moneris Solutions to warn others about their exuberant costs. Moneris Solutions is a company that provides card services to businesses at rates that equal 10% of total sales in my case. I have dealt with this poor excuse of a company for the last few years.Until another company in the same field of business enlightened me,Bank Associates Merchant Services,charging me half as much. I switched companies last month and Moneris gave me a going away present of $71.90 in charges. Here's the sick part.! I didn''t have any transactions with them during that period.The person that I complained to at Moneris told me that the charges were out of his control.The fellas name and position at Moneris,Tim Schram | Merchant Retention and Account Management | Moneris Solutions further told me to complain to some attorney at the company. Please be careful. I am writing this so others will not get stuck with over $1,900.00 with what they refer to as early termination fee. When their representative, Vance Yettes signed us up he never disclosed that this is a term contract. As he was our patient we did not question him since he represented that he is taking care of us. after couple of years we found out that not only their rates were much higher than anyone else but also we had what they called an early termination fee. Neither Moneris, nor Vance were caring or considered. We are a dental office and we are not financial wizards. We just trusted Vance and what he represented.
