Tuesday is $5/person day at the local cinema so we like to catch a movie and go out to eat after the show. This week we decided to stop at Monical's for drinks and a Pizza. They have a nice selection of beer on tap. I was in the mood for something dark and chewy so I ordered the stout -- a good choice and they even served it in a proper stout glass. For our Pizza we ordered a 14" Italian Special on a thin crust. The crust was nice and crispy from the edge to the center. The toppings were evenly distributed and ample in amount without going overboard. The taste was very good -- though nothing really sets it apart from thousands of other franchise pizza places around the nation (Note: Though Monical's is a franchise operation, the Woodruff location looks and feels more like an independent northern Wisconsin bar and pizza place than a franchise restaurant.) Monical's cuts their pizza in a grid pattern instead of pie shaped wedges. Personally I like the smaller rectangles and squares. A New Yorker might beg to differ. read more

Food is pretty good. My only issue, and may cause me to stop going, their staff is incredibly rude. First, we called just to see how busy they were and if it would be worth planning to go (since it was a weekend). When we asked on the phone if it was packed, we simply got not really, and then they hung up. We decided to go anyway. When we walked in and sat at the bar One lady said the seat was taken. So we saw an empty seat on the other side of her and asked if we could have it. Then the wait staff started yelling at us that we better not cramp at the bar. I asked the lady next to me if it would be OK if we moved a little towards them and the worker, in a very aggressive voice, said "maybe she doesn't want you breathing down her neck" even though she said it was fine if we moved closer. After she heard us say let's just go somewhere else, she said "fine! Just take the chair." I continue to come here for pizza but, if their attitudes don't change, my entire up north, and out of town family and friends will stop coming here. read more

Great Pizza! Would probably eat it every day if I was able to. We had the pan style and the crust was crispy yet soft. Sauce had a nice tang to it and it was cooked to perfection. read more

As a parent I like to choose places where my kid will feel comfortable and enjoy themselves. We were having a family dinner and my child was looking out the window enjoying the views of the lake. The waitress rudely came up and asked us to leave because we were "disturbing other patrons ". We were not in anyone's way and no patrons looked disturbed or upset by us being by a window simply looking out. I explained that no one complained and the alternative was for us to leave my family dinner. I left and as I was walking out the waitress forcefully tried to hold me back, which I didn't appreciate. This doesn't appear to be a "kid friendly" establishment. I can't say anything about the food because we left before I could try any of it. I would not recommend coming here if you have a toddler. read more

Was looking forward to dinner there-My phone indicated they were OPEN-drove to Monical's only to find them CLOSED! Disappointing so can't really rate them that's why only one star but have heard the food and service is very good from others. read more

Love Monical's. Been to many locations, including Tolono. This was my first trip to Woodruff. Best view of any Monical's. Lunch special Delight was perfect. Jackie was excellent wait staff. Please keep this small Monical's open so I can come back. read more

10/29/2019 Tried a couple of the Italian dishes. We usually do pizza when we go. Stick with the pizza. My wife had lasagna which was only fair. With plenty of cheese but overcooked pasta. Everything was of me texture. I had the tortellini that was in a fairly good sauce but didn't have much chew to it. Salad was good and the tomatoes on top still tasted like tomatoes and not some fake agricultural product. The breadsticks were as good as usual. The owner thanked us for stopping in. read more

Delicious GF pizza if you're looking for a decent GF option! (however not a certified GF kitchen just FYI) It's a 9" thin crust and unlike other GF options that seem to not get very crispy and can't hold up when you pick up a slice, this one did! Great homemade tasting sauce with pepperoni and sausage and some spices sprinkled over the top. Good ratio of toppings. My husband and father in law had a 10" thick regular crust pepperoni and sausage and also enjoyed it. We all agreed we'd get it again for sure while here in Minocqua at our cabin. We walked in at 830 Sunday night and the hostess/waitress asked the other if they were closed. They are open until 9pm. The other said she didn't think there was dough left. Yep, double whammy of annoyance in 4 seconds. We walked out and won't be back to try what was suggested to us to visit. read more

Fun little pizza joint! They were able to accommodate and get our party of 10 in right away. The pizza was pretty good and the breadsticks were great. The staff was very kind and accommodating especially to my kids. They had a great time with the kids coloring pages. Loved the view of the water from the restaurant! read more

pizza was great but the hostess and bartender were very rude. you aren't doing us any favors by seating us or getting us our food. we are out with family and in a great mood. if you can't fake it till you make it don't come into work. The owner should fire her 2 female helpers. we were here 1 other time and they had the same cool demeanor. definitely not an asset to Monical's. we won't be back. others were also walking out. too bad those 2 can run away business read more

The pizza here is so good! It's thin and crispy and when they put mushrooms on it, they really loaded it up which was great! We also tried their salad. The view was nice, even from smack-dab in the center of the restaurant. My only complaint, if you even want to call it that, is that the wait time to get in was really long for them not being incredibly busy. I guess there's been a shortage of wait staff at several places in Minocqua because we ran into this several times during our visit. Thin crust pizza is distinctive in Wisconsin, and this place gets it just about perfect. Crunchy, garlic dusted, and thin crust, a dash of sauce, a dash of cheese, and minimal toppings. It sounds like a ripoff, but it isn't, this is how it's supposed to be. The service was great, and I loved the homey feel of the bar area. I paired my pizza with a great glass of Leinenkugel beer, and it was just about a perfect night. Hope to return someday! read more

Keep this in perspective people....it is the Northwoods! For the Northwoods this place is a five star, in reality it is a 2. Thin pizza is above average...even for Milwaukee standards. What happened to the pizza? Last year we had a delicious thin crust pepperoni. We ordered the same thing today. We excitedly bit into it. Chewed for awhile and then looked at eachother. Where's the taste? It was so bland that nothing was even registering on our taste buds! My husband and I are not pizza snobs, but I'm telling you, frozen Jacks have more flavor!! Blah. Blah. Blah.... Went here with a group of 11 and 2 high chairs. We were able to get seated right away. Our pizza did take a little while as I noticed the couple that came in after us were done eating before we received our dinner. We had the thin crust pizza, it was very good. Great thin crust pizza! We went for dinner on a Sunday night around 6:30pm. The restaurant was absolutely packed and multiple families waiting for tables. We elected to get a pizza to go. Large pepperoni pizza and family size salad was ready in 20 mins and $20. Can't beat the price and it's good pizza. Restaurant is a bit tight, so if you are wanting to eat in on the weekends, plan on a wait. read more

I tried calling Thursday night July 2 2020 for a take out order. The place was packed. No one wearing masks. Shoulder to shoulder. I made my way to the bar I was the only one wearing a mask. Finally the very rude female bartender asked what I wanted. I said an order to go she said "we don't take orders to go at the bar you need to go down there". She was rude and unprofessional. I went "down there" by the hostess station along with 15 other ppl none wearing masks. The hostess and manager was so rude it was unbelievable!!! I waited 10 minutes and never even got an hello! So I went up the road for the best pizza in the north. Please avoid this place it's overrated, expensive and the owners and employees are very rude. Went with friends who have vacationed in Minocqua for the last several years and recommend this place (our first time for the area). Solid pizza, meh atmosphere -- typical neighborhood bar except for the great lake view -- but definitely deserves the benefit of the doubt. Others have given better reviews of the pizza, which was our focus and which was good. One of my tests for a good thin crust is whether it's still good when it sat in the car for a couple of hours afterward and still tasted good/had suitable texture back at the cabin. This passed! Kids and I split pepperoni, sausage and spinach (fresh). Good job, Monical's. "Cheddar" bread sticks as an appetizer were unimpressive. We got a cheese sauce that looked processed, and I didn't try it. The bread's texture and flavor made it seem like it was probably frozen. However, I give Monical's bonus points for listing Point beer as a domestic and charging domestic prices. Kids liked the place and ran around playing game machines afterward, leaving us to talk undisturbed and apparently without incurring anyone's impatience. Homey and casual. read more

The view of the lake is nice. Interior is bar / pizza vibe, casual, knotty pine walls and worn hardwood floors. Hostess was nice, wait for a table was long. There were open but uncleared tables and we had to wait for the hostess to finish her conversation with a friend who was paying at the register Our waitress was neutral. Service was slow but there was one waitress for 12 tables. Pizza was good. The breadsticks were great(cross between a breadstick and a soft pretzel). Pitcher of Coke was flat. We were staying in the area for the weekend and were looking for a good pizza place. Based on the reviews we decided to give Monical's a try. Since it was a Saturday night we thought it would be better if we just placed a take-out order. Calling the place took a while, must have called twice and after about 5 minutes of waiting we finally placed our order. But they did gave us a wait time of just 20 minutes. Once we arrived we found a very small parking lot next to the busy road but we managed to find a place to park. Once we walked in we found out why it took a while to get someone on the phone. It was a very cramped place and fully packed. All of the staff is incredibly busy and the phone just keeps on ringing. There's a line of people waiting to be seated right to the door. From what we heard it was an hour wait so keep that in mind. Now for the pizza. It was very good. I ordered a small pepperoni pan pizza while my friend ordered a small Hawaiian thin crust. Both were wonderful. I would say though that the cheese was subpar. Sauce was amazing, crust is good, but the cheese was just too tough and chewy. The menu also lacks other food items and sides. I've had better pizza. Is there even such a thing as bad pizza? It's not amazing but keeping in mind the location this is a pretty good spot if you're in the Minocqua/Woodruff/Lake Tomahawk area. read more

Good pizza, love the breadsticks. Typical Northwoods restaurant inside, with average/OK service- no real complaints. The first time I tried to call in and place an order on a Friday night they didn't even answer the phone the first 2-3 times, so there is room for improvement during known busy times.
