Some of the art I dug and some I didn't, but there was a dark room with a video board ceiling that showed a video of the moon and stars on the ceiling that is captivating. We came in through The Indiana State museum and walked out on the canal and entered in the back way. We were greeted by the most wonderful volunteer, very helpful and enjoying herself. We entered to music playing and people exploring the grounds outside. Plenty of space to walk and enjoy outside. We walked up the steps to discover the play area and more steps going up to outdoor seating for the cafe. We entered the kids play area. I loved the creative play offered inside. The library and all of the resources provided. My grandson had the opportunity to play and explore for a while. Pose for a few pictures and then upstairs to the exhibit area where some vendors were set up. I always enjoy engaging with the vendors and finding out about their different offerings. I purchased and few things and then we made our way through the museum. It was a wonderful time. Something educational for my grandlove and outof the norm for us. They have made some upgrades ans changed some things since I was here last. Looking forward to our next opportunity to stop in and see whats in store.

I had the chance to explore this place while traveling to the area and it was really interesting to learn about the history of medicine and medical research that took place in the early 20th century. I love how everything in the museum is exactly the same as it was back in the 1940s so I felt like I was able to get a taste of what really happened back then. The tour guide was knowledgeable about all of the various rooms, equipment, and displays. I took a self-guided tour of their medicinal garden on the side of the building and it was really cool to learn about the ways that these herbs have been and are currently being used for holistic treatments.

You know you've arrived when you spot the massive Indianapolis Motor Speedway track surrounding the museum. We got lucky and were able to watch some cars practicing on the track, which made the experience even more exciting! The museum itself is three floors filled with incredible history, cars, and memorabilia. Our favorite parts were seeing the evolution of the helmets and getting to look at all the different racing helmets and outfits up close! They also have an interactive area that makes the experience even more fun! Timed admission tickets were easy to purchase online through their website before our arrival, and we easily spent a good two hours here. Definitely a must see when visiting Indiana!

Five stars all the way for the Pendleton Historical Museum! The displays are wonderful to look at…read moreand the people who volunteer there go out of their way to help you if you ask about specific things you want to know about. I wasn't able to see this place the first time I came to Pendleton after it was built in 1997 because we only spent one day here and it was a weekday. The museum is only open on the weekends. The next time I came to town I made sure to be here by a Sunday just so that I could come to the museum and I was extremely disappointed when I found out they were only open through October so I wasn't able to see it in 2007 either. When I came back in 2008 it was August and I had more time to spend in town so I went to the museum two or three different times. One thing that makes it fun for me is that it is housed in the old Bathhouse where my brother and I used to go when we wanted to swim in the town pool, a dammed-up section of Fall Creek, in the summers during visits to my grandparents. We would go in the front, pay our 10 cents, change out of our clothes which we were probably wearing over our swimsuits, put the clothes in a locker and go out the door on the Falls Creek side to the town swimming area which had steps leading down to the water, a long slide and a diving board. The swimming area closed in the seventies or eighties due to contamination but it looks like it has gotten cleaned up quite a bit since then. I'm glad the old building wasn't torn down and was turned into the Historical Museum instead. I guarantee you won't see everything in one visit because there are so many items there. Many of them have been donated to the museum or the Historical Society while others are on loan. Probably my favorite is all the old pictures, among which I'm always able to pick out a few relatives and ancestors and old family friends. This is the town that my mother grew up in and when I did genealogy research I discovered my mother's side of the family went back four or five generations to the early 1800's. That made looking through the museum and the local cemeteries even more interesting. Among their collections they have old appliances, a player piano with a dozen or so piano rolls, vintage clothing that belonged to various residents, magazines, newspapers, a complete collection of all the yearbooks from the only High School in town starting in 1916 or so and enough extras they're able to sell some to people for $25 each. There are postcards for sale with sketches of vintage buildings, some books on local history you can buy, and a donation jar if you want to contribute to help keep the museum running. If you get into Pendleton on a weekend from April through October be sure to stop in and walk around!

The Teeny Statue of Liberty Museum is attached to Tim & Company's Another Fine Mess. I accessed it…read moreby visiting this shop and coming in through the back, but the museum also has its own entrance. The sign outside of the museum says that admission is 50 cents. As far as I know, if you try to enter through the front, the front door is locked, so you'll have to go through Tim & Company's Another Fine Mess anyway. Or you can try to call and arrange a tour. This truly is a teeny museum full of Statue of Liberty stuff! You'll see everything from snow globes to statues to posters to drinking glasses to salt shakers to stuffed animals to clothing all emblazoned with the Statue of Liberty. It's a lotta stuff crammed in a tiny room -- around 650 individual items in a 10' by 16' space. This isn't a "learnin'" museum, in that there isn't much information available about the Statue of Liberty or why all of these artifacts are together in this room. But it's a fascinating museum to visit anyway, because when are you literally surrounded by so many Statues of Liberty? And in such a small room? This is a unique museum in Indianapolis for sure, and quite a hidden gem.

I really enjoyed the presentation of this exhibit about ancient Greece. Our country owes so much…read moreof our culture and system of law and governance to this ancient society. This exhibit breaks the presentation into parts that give older kids and adults something to enjoy while at the museum for just another $5 each. When you first step in, there is a holding area with a preview of some of the items you will see. Some are actual artifacts while some are plaster casts of the originals so that you can share in viewing a wider range of items. After a short wait, those gathered will be taken into a viewing room where there is a brief presentation giving you a background refresher before entering the main collection area. The presentation uses some state of the art technology to bring the items next to the screen to life. After the film and presentation (roughly 5 minutes), the doors open and you can wander around the large collection area to explore the different facets of Greek life. There is a section devoted to governance, to the arts, to sports, to mythology, and more. There are golden jewelry and crowns, elaborate pottery, and even an early computer that was found underwater after the ship carrying it sank. Note that there are some interactive items for kids who need to be doing something rather than just looking. There were also a couple interactive presentations that were taking place with the staff who were providing more information about the topic. I enjoyed my first visit to White River Gardens! Even though I'd been to the zoo many times, I…read morehadn't made my way into White River Gardens yet. With the butterflies being there (April 2021), I decided to go check it out with my niece. There was a wait to get into the butterfly room, but it moved fairly quickly. You were required to wear a mask inside. The rules for the butterfly room are pretty basic: stay on the paths, don't touch the plants, don't touch the butterflies, and don't freak out if a butterfly lands on you--let it do it's thing. The butterflies were fun to watch flutter around. There were an assortment of types. I liked the ones with blue wings best. I think my niece and I spent about 10 minutes in the butterfly room. It was a little crowded and we didn't go to the upstairs portion. Next we went outside to the outdoor gardens. It was still early Spring, so I imagine they're even more impressive when the leaves are back on the trees and things start growing more. Still, it was really lovely to walk the paths a bit. White River Gardens was a nice slice of nature in a city setting. I'll be back to explore more later!

Parking at that time isn't great, but most people are at the adjacent Indianapolis Zoo. There used to be a separate admission for White River Gardens. Now it is included in the fee to get in the zoo. (We have a membership. Today I came to the garden and never was asked to show my card - maybe I did something abnormal??) I really enjoy the gardens - both inside and out. I will say though that the outside is getting a little tired looking. I also know I just visited after some really hot days and during COVID. Still, I find it peaceful. I like sitting I. The shade garden and looking through the park with the cityscape in the background.
