Extremely Unprofessional I brought my car in because it had a nail in one of the tires. The service rep came the garage in a T-shirt and a ball cap from some sports team. I thought he was a customer. Then he asked me how I was doing and called me "bro". He then quoted me $80 to patch the tire. After he tried to sell me on all of my tires for over $1000, I took it to another tire shop down the street. They fixed the tire with the nail in it. It cost $7.97. read more

I got a full brake job in April 2025. By early May, I had a burning smell coming from my rear right brake. Thinking it might be a caliper I brought it back to which they said oh it will be 200 dollars for us to even look at it and even then we can't help you because we are too busy. Ended up bringing it to my dealership and Monro installed the brake pad incorrectly which caused the smell so I was out 150+ to get that fixed. Fast forward to an oil change in August and the back pads were at 2 mm while the front at 7. I had to pay 300+ to get them replaced because of Monro's incompetency. Oh and the best part is the only option on Monro's corporate number to talk to guest services is regarding a refund which just shows how much they are needing to refund people because their shops don't do the work correctly. Recently had rotation & alignment at my tire shop. Was advised a rear right adjustment bolt was frozen & needed replacement. Monro manager George pointed out to me that the adjustment was close to zero, a rusted adjuster was likely to break with attempt at removal & probably break adjacent parts, I would have little tire wear leaving it alone. Called to make an appointment for rear shocks. Was quotes $400. He said it had to be both rear shocks, not just the one that went bad (makes sense). Seemed high but I was in need of a quick turnaround so I drove the 40 min into Northampton. I get there and he says it'll be $650. "Oh it's because I accidentally typed only 1 shock in the computer on the phone". He discounted me "down" to $550. Sitting in the waiting room I looked up the shocks online. They're $130 each. I went to the desk and told him this and his answer was that they mark them up to $200 each. I said, "ok but can't you take some of that markup down since you misquoted me before I drove all this way?" He just simply said "no". Not "sorry for wasting your time and money", just "no". Says the computer won't let him. That's probably true, but still a good reason to bring your car elsewhere. If he just nocked the markup down $50 per shock they would still be profiting on the part and I would be paying what I was quoted an hour ago. I'm still here waiting for them to bring my van in. I suspect I'll be writing another review when the work is done. But given the other reviews here, I'm guessing they don't care much about reviews. read more

Don't go here unless you want to get ripped off! I had the tire pressure sensors replaced only to find the warning light was still on. Was told maybe they weren't programmed correctly and to bring it back in. After checking it with a code reader, I was told that the car needs toyota sensors only available from the dealer. When I asked why they didn't tell me this in the first place, the manager was rude, denied responsibility and refused to refund me. He told me to contact corporate. He was also a bully toward his coworker and made a sexist comment to me about how "females always ignore the tire sensor monitor and end up needing new tires." I am amazed this place actually has any return customers, they are so rude and unprofessional. read more

My brother took his wife's vehicle in for a set of brakes. He picked up the car, and the next day drove 100 miles round trip on the windy roads of western Mass. Later the next day his daughter brought in a lug nut and to all of our suprise, the lug nut was off of the car what just had the brakes replaced. These guys are so great every single time I've gone in. Today was another awesome service, so I had to leave a review. I've been going to them with my car since I got it in early 2017. First for just an oil change, then some brake work, new tires.... today was for some serious brake work. What could've been a miserable experience (trust me the bill was high... but i had basically everything replaced), turned into another great experience. They took me to go look at exactly what was going on with my calipers, explained everything very thoroughly, and helped me out with saving money on what could've been a potentially $1000+ bill (I have a Suzuki they no longer sell in the US, or even produce anymore). My one and only problem with this place is one of the assistant managers named Brian, every one else is helpful an cool but as long as they have this Brian guy there it will forever be a bad experience. Dosnt matter the day, the time, hell the month. If you come in an store manager mike isnt there, you will be sent home if you are 5 mins late for an appointment. Or even if you dont have an appointment and the employees are sitting around on there phones with not a single car in the bays besides a small old vehicle thats been being worked on for the last 4 months, you will be turned away being told they are " Too Busy " or " An appointment is just about to show up ". A few weeks ago we stopped in at this Monro Muffler to get an oil change after we hit a wait list at Firestone. This isn't the first time we have serviced our vehicles at this location and we were quickly reminded why we don't come here anymore. The last time we came to this location was over two years ago to have the timing belt replaced on our car. We shelled out a decent amount of money just to find out the the job had been done incorrectly and it had to go back into the shop twice to be rerepaired. This time we were tempted in by the cheap oil change sign up front which showed under $20 but in the end it came out to about $30. Obviously the price didn't reflect all the additional fees which I should have somehow known about. When I finally got the car back it was clear that the oil change was rushed, they didn't rotate the tires and they couldn't even remove the old sticker. While waiting in the office area we also watched another customer enter the shop to complain about service done to his vehicle and we watch the staff complain openly about him once he walked out. What great customer service. In the end it was a hack job, the price listed was a scam, and the staff was rude to other customers. read more

Been having my oil changed here for 9 years, but in the past two years the ethics have changed (along with the price of an oil change). For my last oil change I got a call and he said I needed a new battery and that my brake pads were "extremely bad" and needed an urgent change. I declined and got a second opinion that measured the brake pads and according to industry standards were in the green. Don't trust this Monro anymore, they will try to up-sell with scare tactics. Monroe Auto Service, King St Northampton This is my second review of this business. When I went in for a synthetic oil change I asked if they did a safety check and if that included checking my brakes, they said no unless I wanted them to, so I said yes. When the service was done the tech didn't say anything to me about anything so I asked about my brakes, he said " oh yeah, there fine" and that was it. I asked him what he meant by that, he said "they'll be good until March. A few days later I had my yearly inspection done and failed due to a bad ball joint. This would have been noticed if they had done the safety check they said they would do. I wasn't going back to Monro so I went to another well known place to have the ball joint work done and asked if they could do a brake check because my brakes were squeaking. After the brake check they let me know that I needed rotors front and rear and rear disc pads. There are many reasons why I would never take my car to this place and wouldn't recommend anyone going there. read more

Too bad zero stars is a not an option here... I would not bring your car here unless you want to be scammed. The car needed a brake caliper replaced and was brought to them by tow truck after it broke down. They looked over the car and said a brake caliper replacement job would cost $450. In addition, they said that the car also needed an $800 brake job. Funny thing is, I called the mechanic who had just performed A FULL BRAKE JOB less than 2 months ago who told me a brake caliper replacement job would cost $150 (and that's what we paid our mechanic)!!! Now...you do the math...these scammers were trying to charge a total of $1250 for brake work on a car that needed a $150 caliper replacement job. It already had a full brake job less than 2 moths ago!!! To make the scam even more putrid, when we informed them that we were going to tow the car to our mechanic to fix the caliper they refused to release the car unless we paid for an UNAUTHORIZED "brake inspection" fee...we had no choice but to pay for this false and fraudulent charge so that we could allow the tow truck driver to transport the car. Obviously we will never do business with these sham artists ever again. read more

Called about their advertised cheap oil change for around $16. Seemed too good to be true, and it was. They charged me about $22, acting like they had no idea what the $16 deal was. That's minor, compared to the rest of the story. Car started dripping oil badly as soon as I got home. A local garage told me that they'd not put the plug gasket back. I have nothing but positive experiences at Monro and pretty much use them exclusively. I have had some work done this year aside from oil changes (new brakes, new tires, alignments, new battery), and all but the battery was done at Monro. I did price shop and Monro's prices were comparable to other places but offered bigger discounts. I told Jose, the manager, today about the battery and its cost. I would have saved $40-50 at Monro but it was an emergent car fix that couldn't wait. Even today, as he knows money's tight, he automatically put in a discount rate as I'm a regular customer. Jose knows me by name and we pick up on prior conversations each time I come in. They even store my snow tires as I have no place to put them in my car or apartment. Went here to get a quick oil change before I left town on a long trip. The man working there tried to tell me that my car was a turbo and therefore I needed synthetic oil. Now, I am no car expert, but I know that my car is not a turbo. So either this man was trying to con a young woman into paying unnecessary money for her car, or he is so uninformed that he doesn't know which cars are turbo and which are not (I have a 2002 VW Golf GLS which did not even come in turbo except for diesel models, and my car is NOT diesel). My wife was reluctant to take her car to get oil changed, because she thought she'd have a bad experience. I usually work on our cars, but I had no time, so I advised her to just do it. After all, how bad can an oil change get on a 2010 car. She chose Monroe, which turned out to be a bad decision. To begin, they could not unscrew her oil filter, which already sounds like a joke, because I had tightened it myself when I changed the oil last time. In this case, logic would suggest that they consult the customer and at the very least give the car back at no charge (job not done = no charge). However, the Monroe people changed the oil, and the manager (Kip) charged my wife for the entire job, and ... handed her the filter, I guess so she can replace it herself in spare time??? Only when we went back, another guy (Kip wasn't there at the time) refunded our money. If you want your car serviced poorly, definitely go there!!! Maybe next time when they have trouble with a filter, they will just change your oil, skip the filter, and charge you for the whole thing without letting you know. read more

My 2000 Lincoln Town car air suspension was level and worked flawlessly for the three years I owned it. Brought it into Monroe to get a quote for a new gas tank, and the car was lowered incorrectly damaging suspension components. Had the rear air Springs replaced at Monroe, but the car now sits a couple of inches lower on the passenger side. Town car also lowers itself too much when parked for more than a couple of days. Town car air suspension is the easiest of the air systems to work with. Could be something as simple as a solenoid. But I believe it has something to do with the leveler, because when the car was lowered incorrectly, the air spring was not flush with the axel, so all of the weight of the car was on a bent air spring. I should have taken a picture when it was on the lift like that. When this happened, the leveler had to be taken out and adjusted. Control arms I believe in the rear had to be undone, took about a half hour and it seemed to work at the shop, but started noticing problems as stated above. I dont fully understand the system. My husband and I recently took our car to Monro for an oil change. We had an $19.99 coupon. When we drove up they had a sign on the lawn that an oil change was $18.99 but we stuck with our coupon as it offered tire rotation and a couple of other services. When we picked up our car we were told we owed $26.07 and that they had not done the tire rotation as they could see the tires were in good shape. My husband pointed out that we had a coupon and the man told him that we lived in Taxacusetts, insinuating that was why the bill was over the $19.99. When looking at the bill, we were charged $15 for 5W20 oil, $14.99 for an oil filter, $2.50 for recycling and we got an $11.00 discount for a total of $21.49. On top of that we were charged a $3.25 shop supply fee and a tax of $1.33 for a grand total of $26.07. We will never do business again with a company that is not up front with the cost of their services. read more

For years I went to this location and was treated well. But on a recent Friday I went there with some kind of exhaust leak up front on one side (I have a V8 pickup). I asked them to see what it was, and went to the diner for a cup of coffee. When I returned the desk person and a mechanic were staring up at the problem -- the catalytic converter section of the exhaust had separated from the end of the left exhaust manifold. They said it was "very bad". After talking to them for a while, I got them to admit that there might be alternate ways of fixing it than taking the manifold and exhaust system off (about $600), and the desk person agreed to a slightly reduced hourly rate ($100 instead of $104/hr., and a ceiling ($200) to the cost of drilling out and re-bolting the pipe connection. They noted a rear shock was broken, and I told them I'd buy a pair of shocks and bring them in when they did the manifold-connector work. We made an appointment for the following Monday at 9AM. On Monday I rolled up at 8:45 AM. There was a different person behind the counter, who said that they had no appointment for me. When I told him about the problem I was there for, he said that not only didn't they have me booked, but that they would never have worked on that problem even if I was scheduled. When I protested that I'd been there and talked to both someone managerial and a mechanic, and that both had agreed to do the work, he was not interested... and he said that that was the assistant manager I talked to, and he was the manager. And that, as far as he was concerned, was the end of it; no apology, no explanation, no attempt to investigate, just a "there are plenty of customers where you come from, so go away" attitude. I asked him if he really wanted to lose a customer he'd had (for muffler work) for over a decade. He shrugged... and I walked out. I usually don't inflict muffler work on Ernie's Sunoco, but the next day I took the truck to them. Mike fixed the exhaust, mounted the shocks, and welded two holes he found in the catalytic converter... for less than Monro was going to charge me for the exhaust only.
