William took a great care of our antique sofa - he offered a variety of fabrics to choose from and carefully reupholstered the sofa (kept the original 100 yr old design, restored the structure and wood). William is very sweet - he used the extra fabric to make some pillows. The only consideration is that he has many projects, so communication frequently about status would be helpful. Monroe asked to see pics and then quickly gave me an estimate. Other upholstery places gave me flat fee quotes of almost three times what Monroe's Upholstery quoted. One of the seat cushions on our couch was getting dirty, so we decided to remove the cover and wash it. Great idea - but super bad execution! First, the cushion had tufts, which meant once we got the cover off (not an easy task), we then had to figure out how to get it back on with the tufts. Washed the cushion cover and it came out clean - but had lots of bumps from air holes. So we tried to iron it. Then got it back on and it looks terrible! We really figured we had just ruined our couch. But in a last desperate attempt to save it, I looked on yelp for a company that might be able to fix it and called Monroe's. Monroe called me back relatively quickly, then after sending him some photos, gave me a very reasonable quote. Check out the before and after photos - fabulous work! This has been a very frustrating process. I first contacted Monroe's about a quote which I received in a week or two. The quote was only for the labor and was told I needed to find the fabric on my own. 10-12 yards to be exact. We then moved to texting and I sent the pics via text instead of Yelp. So I went fabric hunting and that amount of fabric was hard to find locally at a brick and mortar. So I ordered from a wholesaler on line and finally received it through the mail at about $700. This took a bit of time as I needed to come up with the money and then be ready to pay the additional amount to get the work done at Monroe's. It all was going great until literally 2 days before he was to pickup my couch, he bailed. Over text he wanted to come pick it up at a time and day I'd be at work and nobody would be home. So when I tried to reschedule, he just said he didn't want to do the job. I tried to clarify what was going on but his texts were cryptic. I'm left with fabric and nobody to do the project. I'm not sure what happened but it was very unprofessional. Just say you can't do the job because your skill level isn't there or put me on a schedule when there is time to do the work . Five stars in the end for the quality of the work and pricing. William is aware that he ghosted me and validated my sincere concerns that I had been beyond frustrated and ready to seek counsel. He now seems to have backup communication secured if he gets severely ill during the process of a project, which of course hopefully never happens! Initally I gave zero stars. William picked up my chair and 10 yards of expensive fabric and trim in February, was communicative, and then stopped responding to any communication in early April. After I posted my initial negative review in late May/early June, he reached out telling me he had been extremely ill and the person who was supposed to be taking care of his affairs had completely dropped the ball. He promised the chair by the end of this week (the week of 6/11), and indeed dropped the chair off today. The quality of the work is superb, and I honestly would use him again if assured communication would not abruptly cease again. The chair has been in my family for over 40 years, I picked an intricate geometric pattern for the fabric and requested a few updates to the style, and he delivered beautifully. The seam matches are gorgeous, and I was given a fair discount considering the ghosting during his illness and very extended project timeline. Despite everything, I did tip him as the price significantly beat any other quotes, I am VERY picky about upholstery work, and I am thrilled with the outcome. We needed help fixing our couches that were sagging badly and we thought that the springs had given way and needed replacement. We had William Monroe come over and check them out and he told us that the springs were fine and the issue was that the foam in the seat cushions had gone soft and needed replacement - a cheaper solution. I did not compare pricing with any other companies but I felt that his price was inexpensive and fair. He came out today and replaced the foam / decron wrap in the cushions - the couches are firm again and I am a happy camper.
