I'd been to Aix a couple of times before I "discovered" the Passage Agard. Actually, I first read…read moreabout it in M. F. K. Fisher's The Boss Dog, and went there on my next trip back to Aix. The entrance is blocked by a door (although a sign above it says "Passage Agard"), so, at first you might think it's only the entrance to a building. In reality, it's a narrow passageway between the Cours Mirabeau, and the Place Verdun and the Palais de Justice. At first, near the Cours, it's covered, but then not, so there's sunlight. In M.F.K. Fisher's day, there was a music shop (voice and instrument lessons were given), a butcher shop, a typewriter shop, etc. Now (or at least about a year ago, the last time I went), there's a Sephora, a shoe store, a place that sells pizza (very good), etc. It's a very interesting place, and a great short cut between the Cours Mirabeau and the Palais de Justice. I was almost tempted NOT to write about it for fear that more people would discover it!

Lovely free museum with a vast amount of artefacts in Marseille's history from the ancient world…read moreuntil now. Since it's free, everything is in French but it's still cool to see some of the larger artefacts like a ship's hull and some of the bodies recovered there. There's a "ticket" office where someone can direct you to the entrance and they'll do a quick bag check. Only thing I'd recommend is having a donation box somewhere because it's always nice to donate for things like this that are educational.

Staff are rude. Nothing written in English so you don't know what you are looking at. While this…read moreis common in France, there is usually an audio guide in other languages to fill the gap. Not here. While there was no fee to enter, I cannot recommend. What's more, the entrance is through a shopping mall on the lower level, so even finding it is difficult! Their website has not been updated since 2018. Sloppy! Do have a look at Roman ruins just outside however.
