The food was delicious! This place is famous or a lot of dishes but I had to try their maui guacamole and salmon with capers. We were not disappointed! The guac is more like a ceviche which being from Hawaii, I did not mind at all! The salmon was perfectly cooked and the capers gave it that little kick. The location itself is pretty cool! I was able to get there via a Lime Scooter so it is close to hotels and other restaurants. The bar is probably the coolest spot I have seen in a while. From a article that I read, it said Rimarcik ensures you had to make sure the blend was mixed the same from the top to the bottom. I know when I bite into them you get the spice with the sweet. So there is definitely some cinnamon dancing on the skin. The overall crunch and consistency is what keeps bringing me back. The Szechuan Green Beans I didn't know that szechuan and green beans could go together like they do. But let me tell how this deliciousness evades my palette in a good way. Okay, this review is for the bar, and the bar solely. It was fantastic! Emelia was our mixologist, and she not only knew her craft, she also piled charm on top of her skills. We appreciated the entire staff behind the bar, who smiled, laughed and created a joyful ambiance. All stress, arrogance, and negativity was left outside. Emelia gave me a choice of three Mezcals and my old fashioned was spirit forward and delicous. I slammed two before dinner. The wine list was eclectic and intersting. Alas, we tried to hurry back from our dinner reservation to enjoy ice cream drinks at the Monte Carlo, but arrived after their closing at 11:00. However, we will be back to enjoy Monte Carlo. Stopped in for late dinner after a concert. First time here and have always heard great things about this place. It's a step back in time with the decor and wait staff but in a good way. Our waitress was phenomenal and has been there 10 years! We had wings as an app-super toast and fresh and the blue cheese dip was creamy and homemade. I had a lot about this place but had never made it. Finally went over last night for dinner. Their is an attached parking lot which was nice. The place is bigger than I expected. It was mainly empty and we were seated right away. It's got an old school steakhouse with wood and white table cloths kinda vibe. But then they also have glasses on the table with silverware. It works. The staff was extremely friendly and the service was great. The food and drinks on the other hand, I was a little disappointed. We had heard so much about their wings so we ordered those. They came out hot and smelled of cinnamon and cumin. They were quite curry forward and didn't stand up to the hype in my opinion. Not terrible, but definitely not what I was expecting and was not balanced in flavors. The sandwich was also disappointing. The cajun chicken breast was flavored ok but was small compared to the bun so you ended up with more bread in each bite. Again, disappointing. The drinks were ok. The martini was plentiful but not necessarily very flavorful. Good value for money coz you got about two martinis for $14. So you got enough alcohol but again not very flavorful. I've been wanting to check out Monte Carlo since I moved to North Loop. When it comes to parking there's street parking or a parking ramp nearby. When it comes to reservations they only allow reservations for inside but the patio is only walk in. The ambience is quite old looking but the food was quite good! I only docked a star due to the slow service with our food taking about 20-30 minutes to come out. Plus my friend who the pasta said it was bland and didn't have much flavor. I got the grilled Cajun chicken and I love the Chipotle Mayo that came with it. I might just come back for drinks next time I visit since the food didn't really impress me too much. read more

The Monte Carlo is a household name in the Twin Cities. I was excited to go for the first time on Christmas Eve, and I appreciate that they were open on such a holiday! I also appreciate that they take reservations. The look and feel of the place is unique. They have an amazing floor to ceiling bar and the main room is adorned with original ceiling tiles. Definitely has an elegant, old school feel. We were sat in a more private back room, which was nice, as the main room was PACKED and loud. It was hard to squeeze through the crowd to get to the back room, but once we got there, it was a quieter, well-lit spot, which we needed for the elderly person in our party. As that room filled up, though, it became just as loud as the main room. I don't mind the noise but it's not suitable for someone who is hard of hearing or has a hard time getting around. Our waiter was sweet but definitely juggling too many tables. They use bathroom hand towels as napkins (odd) and the silverware was all sitting in a glass on the table (also odd). Those details don't scream upscale steakhouse to me. They have a limited menu, which is totally fine, as long as you're going to make everything on the limited menu really really well. We started with drinks and an appetizer sampler. The sampler is a good size and the items that our table really enjoyed were the wings, pate, and calamari. The potato salad was standard, as was the shrimp. The green beans were pretty limp and too heavily sauced. Our food came out in shifts (my burger being the last to come out). Food quality is an issue here. While my MIL and SIL loved their steaks (which is quite a compliment), they never asked how I wanted my burger cooked and it came out not rare, but nearly raw in the middle. Cold. I ate it anyway, because, that's how good steakhouses serve burgers, right? They don't ask how you want it cooked because anything above rare is a waste, right? Another person at our table ordered the scallop pasta and labeled it bland. The fish and chips were fine. The Caesar salad was good but not a selling point to stop in. The tomato in mine tasted off and felt like it came out of a freezer. Needless to say, after the rancid tomato and raw burger, I wasn't feeling so hot the next day. I probably won't be back, but if you want to check them out, go to the bar for a drink or check out their patio. The price point is too high for the quality of the experience and food, but our server was lovely and it is a pretty establishment, so take some pics for the gram and go elsewhere for the main course. read more

This is my second visit to Monte Carlo and again it did not disappoint. The place has like a steakhouse vibe; a little dark lighting with booths and tables. Neat little bar filled with bottles right when you walk in. My bestie and I actually came after a Yelp event on a Thursday evening for a beer, wings, cheeseburger, and chocolate cake. All so yummy! The wings are crispy with a tasty seasoning. The cheeseburger and fries were great as well. Burger was juicy and fries were hot which is always a must. It was a bit chilly, did wish there were heaters of some sort but since I'm visiting from out of town it may just be that the patio isn't always open. I'll start by saying I loved the atmosphere and the ambiance of the inside dining room and bar. They have an extensive liquor wall and a old time classic martini bar vibe which is quite nice. It can get quite busy after 6:00 pm, so recommend making a reservation if it's on a week day. The food on the other hand was a little bit too pricey for what it was. My friend and I ordered the chicken wings (which had a nice dry rub and lots of crunch to them), I ordered the Reuben Sandwich ($15+) and he ordered the Lemon Pesto Chicken ($28) pasta. Everything looked good, but the Reuben was very basic, could have used more sauerkraut and flavor in general. The fries that came with my meal were just okay, not a lot of flavor, lacked salt. We also started out on the patio but none of the servers acknowledged us after 15+ minutes of seating, not even water was brought to our table. I met friends at the Monte Carlo patio yesterday afternoon and I just have to tell you that this patio rocks. Green, shade, umbrellas, interesting people, great service and the best gin and tonics and margaritas I've had in awhile. (I'm talking generous and tasty!) Along with that was the salmon caesar salad which was so great on a warm day. I really think this is one of the best patios downtown.
