Horrible bedside manner. I end up constantly going to walk in clinics instead of seeing Dr. Malak because he is so rude.

Woodlawn has been my family doctor's office ever since I can remember. I've been going there even…read moreback when it was in that terrible brown building with the narrowest staircases of all time. It was dim dingy and very, very much in need of an update. This new building is lovely. Bright and airy, with art on the walls, it's a much more pleasant place to wait in. The chairs are super comfy, which is great, as you'll be waiting for a while in them. While I love my family doctor to pieces, and I've never had any other doctor disappoint me here, I can't give this spot a full five stars. That is because my doctor has a receptionist that hates me. I don't know why. I can't ever remember her smiling at anyone, so maybe she hates everyone. All I know is she's rude and blunt and I dread calling for an appointment because of how little she cares. There's another receptionist who works the same desk, and she's an absolute doll. She'll do her best to get everyone an appointment as soon as possible, while the other woman will make you wait six weeks, no matter how much you stress that your call is an emergency. So really, this review is either a one star for stressing me out so much, or a five star for making my life a breeze. Let's compromise, and go with a middle three. The extra star is for the amazing doctors who deserve all the praise in the world.

Called earlier in the week for an appointment for my daughter and was told that I could not walk in and my best chance was to call the day of for an appointment. Called on the weekend within 20 mins of the clinic opening and was told there were no appointments available but that I could walk in. We did that. Registered and waited for two hours without being placed in a room. I got fed up after watching patient after patient registered after my child were taken. When I went to reception to do the courtesy of saying we were leaving, i was told my child might be next depending on whether two people who had left or had not now shown up for their "appointments" arrived. New walk-in patients were arriving and being told that the wait was approx. an hour and the waiting area was fairly full. I have worked in the healthcare and have done this job before - there is no way a patient should be allowed to leave and come back or miss their appointment, and have priority over people who have been patiently waiting for two hours. To whoever owns this clinic, a polite word of advice. It is great that your clinic offers walk-in service (especially weekend hours) but if your clinic can't reasonably balance walk-in patients with "appointment" patients, pick a system and stick to it. The present system strikes me as a flagrant attempt to maximize billings, without regard to the interests of patients (walk-in and scheduled).

I am extremely sympathetic to a lot of the walk in clinics in Halifax - there is so much demand for…read morehealth providers currently so I can't imagine how overwhelmed those that work in it are. I always arrive at 7 to be given a number at 8:30 to maybe be seen at around 10:30. It's a long process, but much faster than other walk in clinics in Halifax from my experience. It really sucks that it takes out so much time from a day, especially if you're looking for prescription refills or small / quick procedures or check ups. The service is fine. The doctor is kind and efficient. It's nothing to write home about, but again- I can imagine everyone working in this field being overwhelmed and having to put up with a lot of impatience and harsh words. I try to redirect my frustration at the overall health system we have in place rather than the individual. I was unimpressed with the amount of ants everywhere - I don't know if this is because of the clinic being inside of Superstore, the trash not being taken out, or some other reason. It also doesn't smell clean, which is off putting for a clinic. When I wait for so long, especially to have someone look after my health, I want to feel... clean? Sanitary? I have come here a few times, but was unimpressed with my most recent visit due to the ants and state of the clinic.

There's no getting around it - traveling can be stressful. Generally the further you're going, the…read morelonger you're staying, and the less time you have to prepare is directly correlated with the level of mess you can become in the prep process. Add medical requirements on top of searching for the perfect two-piece or figuring out who's going to watch your cat, and you've got your work cut out for you. When I found out I was taking off for Ethiopia in three weeks, had to get a medley of vaccinations and pills, and was losing one of those weeks due to a business trip, well? I panicked. Especially since everyone I told started telling me I was sure to come back with Malaria or worse. (I have terrible friends.) Luckily a friend who had already done the trek referred me to the Travel Doctor. First off, they were able to schedule in my visit the day of my call. It's $30 plus vaccines if you know exactly what you need, $75 plus vaccines if you have questions or need instruction on what to get based on your own medical situation. Second, they didn't panic, scoff, or say 'you're screwed' when they heard about my timeline. Their attitude from the get-go was solutions-oriented which was exactly what I needed. Since they're based out of a family practice, there was a bit of a wait but once I got in to see the doc, I was so happy with my choice. He was an expert in travel precautions, knowing what vaccines to get for what areas, which are top priority and which can be passed over, which I had probably had before, which need more time to settle in, and which I should get right away. Simply put, he knew absolutely everything and wasn't afraid to really discuss the ins and outs of different risks to help me make informed decisions. I still hate getting needles and I especially hate having to go back in two days to get the second batch of the six or seven I need, but I've been thrilled to have this doctor in my corner to make sure my trip goes off without a hitch. *Note: they only accept cash but they can ballpark the cost over the phone beforehand.
