I was in the area unexpectedly because my car broke down on my way home to Virginia and while I was waiting for a rental car I decided to try this Mexican restaurant. First of all, it was hot outside and it was equally hot inside! Secondly, my waiter was not friendly and acted as if it was a bother to wait on me. Thirdly, and the most frustrating one, I wasn't even half way through eating and I had to use the restroom. I couldn't find any staff to inform them of that. I went to the restroom, 2 minutes later I return to my table and my food is gone!!??? What?!! I was still hungry! It wasn't like it was super crowded at the time and people were waiting in line. This is my 2nd time visiting here and once again they did not disappoint! When we arrived there were very few parking spaces available so we figured there would be a wait, but not so. We walked in and were immediately taken to a table, the waiter took our drink order and a waitress brought out chips and salsa. I ordered the ACV and the birthday lady ordered the ACP, this food was delicious! Very nice atmosphere for groups, couples, or just family getting together to hang out. I work primarily in Rockingham county but am unfamiliar with many of the restaurants. My coworkers and I recently ate lunch here which is quite a luxury for me. The restaurant was clean with friendly wait staff who graciously let us sit, for quite a awhile, after we'd finished eating so we could squeeze in some work. I ordered the lunch special: Fried chicken chimichanga. It was delicious with lots of cheese sauce on top. Our dishes came out quickly and were nice and hot. I hope to go back soon! First visit I sat at the bar and ordered a Modelo & enchiladas. The bartender was nice and service was speedy. The clientele was also friendly and I felt right at home. The enchiladas were hot, tasted good and was a large portion. I took one home and ate it later and it still tasted good. Reasonable prices in a time when everything is expensive. I like the restaurant and I've been there a couple times. Only downside is the Booths, I feel uncomfortable sitting in them; feels as though the bench is too far away from the table. We had to pick up some meds for Barb, so I suggested grabbing dinner somewhere nearby. Monterrey wasn't far, so winner-winner, Mexican-dinner. We were seated immediately, in a back room we didn't even know existed. Unfortunately, next to a huge birthday party, though they were pretty well-behaved, and we did order first. (still kills me how many guys wear their caps at a decent restaurant; not how I was brought up) I opted for the Burritos Verdes, with pork, and Barb ordered the Carne en su Jugo (again, said she forgot she had it several months ago). She still enjoyed it, and finished it off. My burritos were good; the pork was tender and tasty. The green sauce had that nice tang of tomatillos. Though, as before, most everything could have used a little more kick. Still have that SoCal palette, I guess. The wine service is still lacking, but at least this time I got the right varietal and right amount, even though my Cabernet was chilled and served in basically a juice glass. This is one of our favorite restaurants. The place is HUGE so don't let the packed parking lot scare you off. There IS a table for you :-) The food is just fantastic and reasonably priced. We can never finish so ... leftovers! The restaurant is ALWAYS kept attractive, in great working order and clean! Lately this has not been our experience at several other restaurants in Alamance and Rockingham Counties. And the staff is very attentive and pleasant. You'll love it here. read more

Canned and bland is the best way to describe this place. The only thing worse than the food was the service, of which there was none past taking the order and delivering the check. No check back, no drink refill, no nothing. The table salsa had less flavor than Hunt's ketchup. Refried beans right of the can. Salsa verde right out of the can, bitter and nasty like my review. Even the jalapeno that came with my carnitas was a pickled one right out of a can ffs. The Trump hair-colored rice was dry and dull like a bunch of Orange-Man-Bad jokes. The carnitas were pretty dry and the rotten salsa verde didn't help. I would have rather had $11 worth of beefy crunch burritos from with Fire and Diablo sauce than this plate of hot garbage, at least that would have had some flavor. My Mom had a grilled shrimp salad and some chunky guac which she seemed to enjoy, so at least of us had a decent meal. But next time she wants to come to get one, I'm bringing some Taco Bell for my dinner. read more

The restaurant is very nice, and expenses was not spared when building it several years ago. The food isn't what it used to be here unfortunately. My brother and I went there on 10-28-2024 and got our bill at 1450 or 0250. He and I both got Polo Feliz. When we got the dishes and started eating, the taste was good BUT................................ Literally, we had to look for the chicken in it. Really small pieces and few of them. I figured they grilled both dishes together and just didn't do a very good job of distributing the chicken. Wrong! Neither dish had hardly any chicken. Seriously, the poorest dish I've ever gotten at a Mexican Restaurant. If the prices where cheaper than other Mexican Restaurants, I'd take that into consideration but they're not. Unfortunately, I have to say Beware!! This is the worst experience I've had here. If it was a fluke and the Restaurant wants to comp me and my brother with another free visit to re-evaluate their food and our experience I'll be glad to do that just in the interest of being fair to the owner and the customers. Up to them but I'll think twice before going back there again. I even passed many Mex Rest. on the way to this one. read more

I have been looking forward to eating in the new location. The building absolutely looks phenomenal, the decor is very well done. Great atmosphere and very busy restaurant. We waited 10-15 minutes to be seated, not bad considering they were very busy. The service was slow, I know they were busy but the waiter didn't check on us enough to keep our glasses full. It took at least 30 minutes to get our meal, I do realize they were busy and wouldn't have been bad if the waiter would have kept our glasses full. The food was not very flavorful and just a general disappointment. This restaurant in no way lives up to the expectation. The food and service aren't on par with the building! read more

Terrible service. Order was wrong. Had a hard time trying to get the order right until I just gave up. Then I get accused of trying to skip out on the bill after my terrible server fails to give me a receipt. I even waited around at the counter to pay but there was no receipt to show what was owed. After a few minutes I assumed my mean was free after several failed attempts to get it right. Then they had the audacity to put a post on Facebook saying I walked out on my bill with a security camera screenshot. Needless to say, my family and I were extremely embarrassed. I have gone up there and paid them. They won't post that though nor will they admit the waiter failure to produce a receipt. I used to be a frequent patron to the restaurant even before they moved to the new spot. Never again. They owe me and my party an apology!!!! They'll never get my patronage again! read more

This is the second failed order from this particular restaurant that I have encountered. The first was much worse as I had my granddaughter with me. We ate there but also ordered food to go for my grandson. They proceeded to mess up all three orders that day. This time i got a take out order. All I ordered was a Taco salad. It came with NO re-fried beans and NO cheese. As it was suppose to have. They also put it on chips instead of in the shell that it usually comes in. This Taco salad was the worst I've ever eaten. It really just tasted bad. I informed the management but he wasn't interested in hearing it. Even after I informed him that I wanted nothing from them and that I only wanted to inform them so they could correct this for the next customer. I thought he was rude and had no customer service skills at all. I wont be going back to this restaurant. read more

The new location on Freeway drive is not as good and here's why. The first reason is a significant decline in service. Maybe because it's a bigger facility or the staff hasn't settled in but the service has declined significantly over the old location. As an example, sometimes my wife and I order an entry to share. In as much, we ask for an extra plate. Of the three times we've gone, not once has the extra plate been brought without us asking again. In addition, over half the time something is missing from our order such as sour cream or a side order of guacamole. When we reminded a member of the staff of the oversight, if it was not the person waiting on our table, they would tell our original wait person and then they would correct it. This often took a significant amount of time. On the plus side, everyone seem friendly and willing to help. A second reason is the noise. Certainly the restaurant is busy but, so was the old location. The problem is that nearly every surface in the restaurant is constructed of hard materials. There is nothing to absorb the sound. Other people we we have talked to have said the same thing. Excessive noise is the main reason we started going to El Parral, Monterrey's sister location. On our initial visit to El Parral I talked to one of the long term waiters there. We mentioned to him that we used to go to Monterrey's but the new location was just too noisy. He nodded and said that he has heard that several times before. He then added that he was disappointed that Monterrey's had taken some of their business but he thought it was going to come back. Since El Parrel's is quieter, the service was better and even the food was better, I'll bet he's right. read more

Brand new building, apparently brand new kitchen staff...and Taco Bell's menu. This has long been a C+, B- establishment, but predictable, if a bit pedestrian. After their move? Ugh. The food is bland, uninspired, and anything remotely authentic has been removed from the menu. Ask for a basic Mexican dish such as a chili relleno, ang and they'll stare at you like you'd just eaten a bug. Ceviche? I dare you to ask! Order a tamal. I love Mexican food although at times I don't know what I am ordering, but what I have ordered is really good. I love the shrimp with the zucinni, rice and cheese and most of the time this is what I order. It is really good. Only complaint I have is I am not a big drinker but at times I would like a little wine to go with my meal. I would suggest that they start selling the bottles of Seagram with the different flavors you can get like the Passion Fruit, Wild Berries, Classic Lime Margarita, Strawberry Daiquiri and the Calypso Colada.
