I do enjoy the location because it is a very short drive from the center of town. It's also perched on a hill and the outside of the building looks very cute. I hope the hours are a little better when I come to Iowa next because I would love to see the inside. The outside was incredible and made me smile! The three stars is because of the hours being so short and during the middle of the week. I wish I could have seen the inside of this place on a Saturday. Next time I will try to visit during your business hours!

The Durham Museum is in the old Union Station. I'm glad they were able to preserve the building…read morebecause it really is spectacular. There are many permanent displays about Omaha history, and there are train cars you can walk through; enthusiastic docents are often there to answer any questions. There are temporary exhibits here as well, and in the summers they will have something cool that the whole family will enjoy. There are lots of programs here, many of them free with admission or membership. I do recommend getting a membership if you think you might want to come at least a couple times in a year. And you probably will want to! There is a soda fountain/snack bar area. The ice cream is great! The food is okay. It's a museum and not a lunch destination. The museum is located right next to Omaha's Old Market.

It was built in 1931 in the Art Deco style and designed by LA architect Gilbert Stanley Underwood. The museum has lots of photographs and examples of materials used that would be a delight for all those interested in architecture. Downstairs was the train depot and where you can go inside and sit in the train cars. Most of the rooms appeared to be part of their permanent collection, but part of the downstairs area has rotating exhibits. The exhibit on display was "The Negro Motorist Green Book" which you may be familiar with if you watched the 2018 film "Green Book." I had a great time at the museum and would return, although check the calendar as I went when the NE SciFest going on and I prefer calmer museum visits. Still, definitely would recommend checking it out!

A lot of the people living near by are Danish I'm pretty sure. The museum building itself is beautiful then add in all the art and culture it's even more amazing. I brought my kids with me and I feel like they didn't appreciate it as much as I did but we were at the tail end of the trip and they wanted to be home. There were so many cool artifacts to look at that I wasn't able to see all of them because my kids were afraid being on the 3rd level . The woman working the front desk was so kind and lovely. I wish I would have gotten her name. It was peaceful and cool in here too. It was a fun stop in and learning experience!

There was a lot of good information inside, of course with artwork, to artifacts and even some props brought over from Denmark. My favorite was the small photo album from the 1970's when they brought over the Danish windmill from Denmark and it shows the complete transformation. The staff was SO kind and helpful and just really eager for us to ask questions and have a great experience and visit. As someone who adores everything Danish I loved this exhibit! Their gift shop was so well done and I walked away with some local honey and Bjorn Wiinblad wall hanging to add to my collection. I would definitely recommend this place if you're visiting the area, and I so hope to be back one day!

So glad we…read morewent, the exhibits are very well documented and span the range from missiles and bombs, to drones, bombers, tankers, fighters, helicopters, and lunar modules from WWII onward and even a prototype Artemis lander. Flight simulators, a theater continuously screening space and air related films, and lots of activities for the kids plus some outside exhibits and benches for enjoying the view round out the experience. The entrance to the museum is beautifully constructed with a SR-71 Blackbird hanging from the ceiling. Many of the exhibits were very unique aircraft including a Quail decoy for the B-52 bomber, one of only 2 XF-85 Goblin parasite fighter escorts ever built, an EC-235C Looking Glass lying command center, a B-58A (one of only 6 remaining) mid range bomber which was the first bomber to break Mach II, first to have stellar-inertial nav and first to have a stainless steel honeycomb structure, and the B-36J was really unique with 6 pusher engines plus turbojets - the largest bomber ever built, plus many more items.
